  1. What are the odds that TLG would combine all those themes into one? Specialist Underwater Alpha Police Miners!
  2. I collect City, Star Wars, CMF and some Creator sets. I will only speak on these themes. City's inital offering of police and fire sets didn't picque my interest except for the boats which I don't own previously. Have yet to buy those however. The Ferry was a refreshing change of set albeit basic in terms of build. The caravan and garbage truck were quite good once I bought and built them. I'm loving the Volcano series. I have a few sets so far. The only thing that irks me was the price point for the August release large sets. $150 and 180 CDN respectfully. Both sets should have been around $100 and 120. Fun in the park although pricey is a must have for me. I was quite happy with the airport reissues. Looking forward to owning these. The gas station is wel done too. There are a few creator sets that are good. The inclusion of small brick built animals was a nice touch. The camper looks like a fun build. The brick bank I have to purchase and then I can judge if it's too small. Last year's detective office although detailed was far too cramped in the barber shop. I'm sure there will be more coming for this theme. Not a fan of the bettle but it looks like a great set. Star Wars has been horribly pricey this year. As a result I've yet to get any significant set from TFA. The battle packs are good, no complaints. There have been some enjoyable updates to the mini-figures.
  3. Racers was redone as Speed Champions. Just with the added name brands now. There was an article way back when, that the system and moulds for the monorail was actually quite expensive to make. It is doubtful they will do a remake based on the old sets. They could perhaps make a redesigned system. I would love to see the Forestmen, Wolf Pack, and Vikings. I missed out on the latter two as I was just hitting my dark age in the late 90's so I would greatly like to own some new ones. The general consensus is that Forestmen should make a come back. I have yet to not hear someone desire them. I really hope TLG is reading our consensus. Toy Story like LotR was limited licensing. That is what happens with all toys based on movies. They are limited in scope and only beneficial while there is interest in the films. Superman was a perfect example. They made three sets based on it and that was that.
  4. It is quite possible that the other torso was out of stock. I can say that yours is the first case I've heard of where the arms were incorrectly attached. It does seem odd that the person who picked this didn't notice the arms were on backwards. Then again when one is picking out parts all day, things would tend to blur.
  5. Well, there are 18 days to go on the project. I thought I would share the update. "I would like to thank everyone who supported my project for their support. I have been very happy to hear people's positive comments over the past year and half and I am glad it has managed to get this far. It is difficult to get a project like mine noticed when so many other projects based on television shows or over the top creations hogs the spotlight. I think Lego Ideas has been steadily skewed by such projects in that way. I prefer actual non-license works, original creations. I think that is the true spirit of Lego Ideas. In terms of my building, I made a few minor modifications such as altering the sewer grates to mirror other modular buildings and adjusting the lights on the third floor as well as reversing the slopes on the second floor columns. I also redesigned the structure on the third floor to be stronger. This meant ordering a few more parts to strengthen the facade. It was an interesting project I set for myself and you should see it sitting next to my Town Hall. It actually is taller! It looks great beside the Fire Brigade and Green Grocer too. I had hoped to share it with everyone but at least I have my own copy. My batch of officers have a home of their own." I think next go around I will try a smaller project.
  6. Exactly true! I'm mortified by all the crap that clutters up Lego Ideas. It's one of the reasons my project hasn't been receiving more support. When my project was trending it allowed people to see and/or support it. Now I'm lucky to get 20 votes I had hoped To reach 10k. As for some of the creation by children. It was my understanding that Lego ideas was for the teen to adult crowd. Lego used to have a thing where they would showcase kids creations and frankly I think they need it again. Most of these awful ideas are kids trying to showcase their creation.
  7. Really enjoyed checking out your creation and I like all the little details.
  8. I'm quite excited to acquire this mini-figure! They could do a Black-Tron phase one classic, that would be great in my book. I wouldn't want it to be redesigned unless they did a whole new theme for them. This crusader could be a lost soul from a forgotten time come back to warn us of ominous tidings.
  9. I am hoping that with the new factory in China that certain quality issues will get cleared up. I have also had CMF with legs loose or hair/hat pieces not fitting as snugly as they should. There is also a noticeable different in the sheen of legs components. It is easy to tell if a torso has been made in China as it will lack the sensor black neck printing and the hands/arms will be turned to the sides.
  10. 1) I signed up for the programme on a visit to the Lego Brand Store. I use my VIP points to offset the costs of my purchases (namely Goods and Service tax). VIP points are also extremely handy when I purchase Pick a Brick parts in the Lego Brand Store. I couldn't imagine not earning points now. 2) The key benefit for an AFOL like myself is to lower the costs for larger sets (if I have saved enough VIP points). I also like double VIP point events. 3) The VIP programme does not influence my purchasing habits, it enables them. I don't subscribe to a particular theme because of the VIP programme. I do collect Lego Creator, Star Wars, Castle and City themes. 4) As a VIP member I would like discounted pricing and a larger selection for Pick a Brick or Bricks and Pieces. Similarly I would like to earn VIP points when I am purchasing through Brick and Pieces. Currently I do not receive any points for using the service as I do spend a good deal of money to acquire parts I cannot normally purchase through Pick a Brick for various projects. I liked the Christmas boxes we used to get in store to fill with Pick a Brick parts. They used to have a VIP rewards event where one could purchase up to a limit of five sets at 15% off the current price in the Lego Brand Stores. I really like this idea. Perhaps VIP members could depending on how long they have been a member could get access to bulk purchasing of Lego elements? Could VIP members order Lego poly-bag sets? Local stores in my city just simply don't stock them and quite often I miss out on acquiring them. 5) I am usually treated quite well by the staff at the Lego Brand Stores and the call centers. Lego Customer service is the simply the best when compared to other companies. It would be nice to be recognized as a VIP member as I contact the call centers many times for orders or general queries. A little freebie now and then helps to make me feel special.
  11. Very nice layout and good use of bricks especially the pavement in the amusement park. I enjoyed your creation. I hope the lego on the radiator isn't a permanent home? Wouldn't want your bricks to melt!
  12. Nice story. I was in the LEGO store one time and was behind the register counter organizing a PAB cup to purchase when this woman comes in front of me (but in the aisle with the cash registers) and asks how much the set she was holding onto was. I politely pointed out to her that I am not a LEGO employee (I was wearing a business suit at the time) and that she is where the cash registers are. She got all huffy and went around to the opposite side waiting on someone to ring her through glaring at me like it was my fault she was being stupid.
  13. I agree, Part of the fun with this thread is the creativity when making an army. Personality is what makes one get excited about seeing their army. I've enjoyed others as they try to do something unique with it or add personality in addition to the shear size. I will have to post up new photos of my army as I have expanded on them. Mine won't be the largest out there but I am happy with it. (They just lack a castle to inhabit...)
  14. I don't get it. Why dress up all your mini-figures and slap a sword in hand and armour onto them? I wouldn't classify this as an 'army'. More as an attempt to outshine individuals.
  15. I didn't pick up a copy of Medieval Village when it came out. I kept looking at it in the store but I was addicted to Star Wars and City sets at the time. Recently though I just built my own copy of it. It took a few months to get all the parts and I even managed to secure the sticker sheet and instruction manuals. It is good to finally own it. It's one of those iconic sets. I would recommend either buying one in box if affordable or 'bricklinking' the parts to make your own. I only did two substitutions, the cow horns and the horse. The new horses are better than the old ones anyway.
  16. There is an upward threshold that orders containing more than 80 different types of parts the system would kick it out. I think the problem has been addressed though with TLG. A shortcut that was mentioned is true, to email the list of parts you want for an estimate and can make purchase without the system giving issues. TLG recently made changes to who and how much one can order through bulk. There is no price discount for purchasing in bulk unless you belong to an LUG and they do a bulk order as part of the LEGO Bulk programme.
  17. Really enjoyed seeing your interior Darkhorse00, especially the condiment counter! Excellent work. On a side note, what lens for your camera did you use to take the photos with?
  18. The general consensus for this set is that it is a disappointment both in terms of scale and hype. I watched the designer video for it and I suspect there was more decision making behind the scenes that we aren't aware of. I admit I was let down by the set, mainly due to the price point. $300 CDN is out of my price range unless I had a good job. I think most of the figures are good despite only two storm troopers. What get me is the lack of a build. Ultimate Collectors Series in my mind are suppose to offer builders a challenge if not something to really take your time with. This doesn't. The figures, of course I love, and that would motive me to making such a purchase but it is rather hard to justify. I like the hangar doors and the shield generator but the turrets still don't look like the movie and the Ion cannon is an eyesore with the stud shooter. I am not a fan of the stud blasters and would have appreciated a more realistic rendition. The lack of interior details and some fictionalized elements are detracting. I will give credit to the designer though, it must have been a tough set to design. What to include and what not to include based on an open concept from the movie. I think the designer was trying to appease a wide audience but seemingly has failed the AFOL audience who pay for the large priced sets. Most parents I don't see buying this for their kids. I see them all the time at the department stores, even when I used to work in retail, and they usually purchase smaller or mid range sets. Usually the first words out of their mouth is that its too expensive. I really hope TLG reads through this topic and understand that AFOLs (with and without children) not kids are the ones generating the profits for the past five years. More and more adults are tuning into LEGO products because of nostalgia or the influence from their children. There is a generational cycle at play and that is what driving their sales.
  19. When one can't purchase parts from TLG, stocks on bricklink won't last indefinitely. I had resort to purchasing what I needed from bricklink. It was costly. I hear you. I didn't care for the 2013 sets but I do like the Mini-figures. The new Lego movie sequel won't be out till 2018 I think but that is something I had not thought of.
  20. I would also like to see a reboot of classic forestmen or the original lego castle from 1978. It is long over due. I hadn't thought about the 40th anniversary either but that would be great timing. I personally don't think I can wait that long... I have been trying to expand my existing army of Kingdoms troops (2010) and Crownies/dragon knights from the 2013 line. Much to my dismay the stocks have dried up on BnP. Some of the most basic heads from the City line have also dried up too. I'm not sure what is happening with BnP other than we have hit a point where stocks aren't being produced. As of right now, hold onto those precious Castle figs as that is likely all you may have. I really hope TLG gives us a massive castle theme that reboots many of the moulds/prints that we have come to enjoy. I saw the interview with the designer as well, although he does state that the two themes could co-exist I think he is just stating his opinion of it rather than something definitive. I would be happy if later this year or early next they prove us wrong and have a Castle theme in the wings being worked on.
  21. Hi Jim, depending on the stock. You won't be able to find 1x8 sand Green bricks nor sand green 1x2 bricks with grooves for example. Please read the first 10 pages or so on this thread and you will find the answer you seek. It's possible to make one.
  22. This is proof that one doesn't need grandiose ideas to demonstrate a brilliant creation. Love how you made this as its very inspirational.
  23. Derek Cadarn I'm looking forward to reading your new guide. I very much enjoyed the last one on EuroBricks. I really want to try my hand at making such castle builds but in my case I lack the money to purchase bulk parts
  24. The Europa theme sounded really cool. I can see why the initial town square set was not released as there isn't anything to the set. 3 baseplates, a few arches and bricks with some figures tossed in.
