  1. I finished off the roof and sorted out the side windows on the second floor. I eliminated the door and windows and put a solid wall with some more windows, filing cabinets and a bench for criminals to sit on. Plus I added a coffee maker and cooler for the office. I also took out the columns on the third floor and used palisade bricks which looks much better than before I think. The building is more to my tastes now that I decided to make the garage completely modular instead of an add on. I was getting frustrated with the existing design as it was not a solid build. May or may not take out the Octan gas tank on the roof. I don't know is it completely odd to have explosive material on a rooftop? That is a very sensible idea. I have been wondering how to incorporate my side door. if I placed an alleyway in-between the two buildings I can utilise the doorway. Thanks for the tip!
  2. Thank you harton. The reasoning for the windows on the side was mainly to break up the space and reduce the amount of bricks I'd have to use per side. It is true when I think about all the other modulars and the fact they do not utilise windows on the sides. In any case if the building stands alone or has one modular next to it there will still be windows to look out through. I can't say that I would be thrilled to redo those walls again...
  3. Thank you TheLegoDr. Definitely have to avoid direct sunlight with this modular. I hadn't thought about having an alleyway specifically behind the buildings but that is something I could design. Appreciate the kind words.
  4. Thank you. I will definitely not rush the remaining portions. I was planning on turning this idea into reality by building it. Not certain how soon though. Will take some rearrangement with the columns but I think your are right that it would look more streamlined with them lined up. Thanks Lightning Tiger! Haha. Need some Simpsons donuts pieces.
  5. I like the use of the kitchen to the understair. Good work! Your rooms look very cozy. It's hard to tell from the images but are you using 1x3 tiles for the tables?
  6. Hi everyone, I would like to present my modular police building. I haven't finished just yet as I still have to design the roof. There will be an accompanying modular side attachment garage with a holding cell too. I was trying hard to just have this as a stand alone building but other ideas kept creeping in. I may or may not use it but as this construction is pushing past 2500 pieces it will get expensive. Essentially this is a three story building with a roof that will house some communication equipment. On the ground floor I have the main lobby with an evidence/armoury room complete with a little panel to deposit weapons etc that one can push the lever to have it drop inside. The second floor is where the officer conduct their work and the detectives sit with criminals and witnesses to interview. The idea was to have the holding cells adjacent to that floor. On the third floor has an open concept space for the Chief of Police and a conference room with a projector. I think I will have to revisit how the panels underneath the floors are utilized. I tend to over structure my creations so they are sturdy and solid. At times it can be difficult to design the facade since I don't want to really use other ideas I have seen before nor is it based on much other than what is in my head. As a result it takes me longer to design. Most police buildings are made in a wide array of sizes and scope that it is difficult to find what I like. Instead I had an initial floor plan and an idea that has just evolved over the last two months. I was looking to Castor-Troy's Police modular for inspiration as his came out nicely. Can be found here: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=82034 The garage portion at the moment reflects his initial ground floor structure more than my own, albeit I have modified and improved upon them for my purposes. I really liked the idea of the back garage and two large front garage doors. Seeing as I have lots of police vehicles the need for a structure was why I was designing it after his design. In any case, I have not enclosed photos of it. There is still far too much work to do on it. If you have any comments or thoughts please feel free to speak.
  7. Thankfully when my orders came in I verified the count of each part on my order and then separated the parts to place into a zip lock bag for CC and GG. One thing I goofed on was the building itself. The electronic instructions are hard to read at times and I placed a palisade brick where two black round bricks were supposed to go onto the stairs. Took me awhile to realize I had made the mistake...after ordering an extra part... Actually my sets are all in one bag each with the windows usually separated so as to limit scratching. It's not too hard to deal with on the second build just more time consuming if you can't find that one piece that you are looking for.
  8. The pieces on back order are from BnP? Three weeks seems a bit lengthy for a BnP order. Was it a huge order TheLegoDr? Usually it is the shipping period that takes the most time to arrive. (I'm in Canada) However I have noted lately that the orders have been taking longer to process and ship. I blame the Lego Movie! How dare they inspire kids to buy more Lego. Haha.
  9. Great attention to detail Kristel. Looks like you have another winner creation. I really like the back half bay windows.
  10. I hadn't heard CMF 12 would increase to $4 per fig. The Simpsons jumped for obvious reasons, the characters and the extra moulded heads. I agree with what you stated about PAB pricing AFOLguy1970. I'm a bit worried that Lego is adopting old patterns of behaviour such as too much diversification without sticking to the 'core' lines. Growth shouldn't be confused with success. This is what happened in the late 90's. I do think that this will be a banner year for Lego just like 2012. The Lego movie certainly has exposed the brand to an even wider audience. I'm wondering if the price increase isn't necessarily due to manufacturing costs but rather they are a bigger company now with no real competition as of yet. (In terms of building toys) Personally I would never buy another brand, leaves a bad taste in my mouth to think about it. One lesson I'm hoping Lego doesn't forget, imagination. That is the driver of their business. It's what entices kids and AFOLs alike to the brand and sustains them. Licensing is good but they shouldn't let it control/dictate too much of their business. I only wish I was employed so I could keep up with the pace of buying. I have many City sets to catch up on and my Star Wars collecting is on hold...
  11. I think you are right on this. Mattel is covering an area they don't utilize yet. Building toys. It will take time to see what direction they plan to take with MegaBlocks. I suspect they will try to make the brand a direct competitor of Lego in the long term. However that is a long way off. Lego has had supply issues with meeting demand in the past so you are quite right they will have the logistics in place before they have a product commitment to the Asian region. I really don't think anyone is going to knock off Lego as a company. They will have their own internal challenges to keep growing and succeeding. Lego emotes a very specific appeal to children and adults who grew up with it and continue to enjoy the products. They created a 'system of play' and that is not easily replaced by Mattel or Hasbro toys.
  12. I agree with Kristel. The bay window seating and table are a nice touch.
  13. Thank you for your compliments. They are very much appreciated. I tried to take photos of having the station adjacent from the modular buildings but unfortunately my photographing area isn't large enough to accommodate it all. However it does blend in in with the modular buildings nicely. I think if I had to do this project again I could definitely reduce the cost.
  14. Well my final order came in! I now have all three mini-figs from Market Street! 100% authentic and new. My GG is now officially complete as well. I have the Kitty Eyes 2 and the red tile for the mail boxes. So the only changes made to GG are the 1x4 Medium Blue bows, 1x6 and 1x2 sand green bricks instead of the 1x8 bricks and the train windows. Everything else is completely original and new. The only minor changes to CC are the new style windows (really doesn't matter looks just as grand), a decent side door (should replace with a 1x4x6 door or leave out) and the newer ski type. I may order the old ski type at a later date. All in all pretty damn good! So aside from not committing to build Market Street, may do so later on. I just need the two newer modular buildings. Coincidently I made the bartender mini-figure for CC, an extra EMS medic, scout kids and two citizens with this order. God I love mini-figures haha
  15. Thank you! Not sure where a magazine rack would go?
  16. Thank you! It's good to see over a hundred people can now build their own!
  17. We are definitely thinking alike on the MS Sin. I wanted to replace those grill bricks with the new profile brick. I did add in windows on the back of the building in LDD. The balconies you've created are much better than the original. Did you change the interior at all? I wasn't quite happy with the stair case being in the centre of each floor. I surmise now after seeing you creation that I will have to build this. Hehe. May be awhile though as I am desperately trying to save to move back to England.
  18. I like your design as well. You've kept it simple and in line with the existing set. Good work! Would love to see it in reality.
  19. I wouldn't worry about the tower looking too small. If you feel it is after its built you could always add another level of arches. Will you have another entrance on the far side? At your current size I think it will look really great! Plenty of space for the interior decor. I would use a 32x32 and a 16x32.
  20. Unfortunately I paid 4 Euro for the GG hairpiece. I managed to get the one from CC for about $1 each. Bought two of them. I'm waiting on my cat to arrive but it was $2.72 from BnP. I'm hoping it is indeed the printed cat and the not the white one from the thanksgiving polybag. As for the use of the rare piece. The designers usually use what parts are available in the current selection. Since CC was from 2007 and GG was from 2008...it explains why the Harry Potter pieces were used. I can't believe the red roof tile is costing me .38 cents. I find it funny that most of the time I know more about the system of BnP than the reps do. Currently for some odd reason minifig torsos from City are all showing up as 'Licensed' including some of the legs. I know there system has gone through an upgrade but I'm surprised they haven't resolved the issue yet.
  21. Hi, I just recently purchased the new Prison Transporter set 60043 from the City line. I was pretty hyped about the set from the first time I saw it but after building it was disappointed. I love the overall look but that is what is wrong with it. There seemed to be very little thought about the interior design. For example there isn't a dashboard like other great vehicles. Nor was there any attempt at avoiding gaps in the flooring near the back half next to the wheels. The 1x4x3 wall elements on the sides created a gap next to the wall panel on the interior just in behind the driver. I found that if I just moved the 1x3 bricks to the front and the break away jail bars back a stud it looks better while still being able to have its function. The ATV the criminal lacks any clips for the hook or his crowbar. Not to mention there are no way to attach the handcuffs anywhere on the van. They used a 1x2 wall element rather than a pair of 1x3 doors too. (This last point is a minor preference.) For a prison transporter there seems to be a lot of ways a criminal could escape... I MOD'ed the design in LDD just to see if I could correct these issues and found that for about $1.60 (PAB prices) one could fine tune the design with 13 parts or so. These components are relatively minor as well such as a two 1x1 plates or 1x2 plates. I took a look at comparing a really well rounded set like the 4434 Dump Truck to the Prison Transporter. According to Brickset the price per piece ratio is: 60043 costs $29.99 CDN at 196 pieces for 12.75 cents per piece 4434 costs $24.99 CDN at 222 pieces for 9.00 cents per piece. I know of the various factors that goes into creating sets for production but it seems to me that the designer purposely reduced the amount of parts in order to reduce cost. I understand that there are newer parts and this may be the reason why the set is priced higher such as making new molding presses. However I feel like I paid more for less. I really wish I could look at the business case for this to see what decisions were made. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone else purchased a set recently that seems to have less parts and suffer from a weak design?
  22. If you are curious Mikuri, check out this thread: http://www.eurobrick...topic=50275&hl= Yellow Air tanks are one of the pieces that I see with an obvious change. Various parts for Chima are produced in China. At least in 2012-2013, perhaps with the new wave they have moved the production back to Denmark or Hungary? I disagree as well. If a part came out deformed then it is a molding issue. If there is a colour change or textural issue it is due to the material ie the plastic. It's basic common sense. Completely agree. It is about the end result. Lego does have slips in quality control now and then. That is just expected. TLG makes millions of parts per year so it is bound to happen. However the company will replace the 'faulty' parts should you request it. I get disappointed when I encounter a lesser quality part but as long as the company helps to replace it then I won't worry too much.
  23. Thank you!
  24. Looking great Sin. The side door looks good too. I was thinking of swapping the side door to the 1x4x6. Now I know how it will look in reality. I'm debating about swapping the new skis for the old style. I may yet do so.
  25. Amazing job! Love the interior. How did you use excel to plot things out?
