Yeah it is the photo edit, sorry. There is no parts list really for a white-dirty version and you can't just replace all LBG parts with white ones, because not everything is available in white. I am sorry but you'd need to do it yourself. That said, it should be relatively easy if you started from clean white one and then replaced some parts with other colours. The "update" is more like a "remaster" really. Almost everything in the back has changed due to the new core, and nose was not spared either. For the wings I could use new 1x3 inverted tiles, guns are also new... and so on and so on.

My model is far less durable than a lego set. It doesn't fall apart when you pick it up and is somewhat swooshable, but between "playset" and "display model" it is definitely closer to being a display model. It is also more durable than the first iteration, but it is more like "less fragile" than "durable".

Hello there! Finished model first: ...and now some backstory ;) Back in 2018 I made my first effort to build a classic T-65 X-Wing. The build was pretty good I'd say, but not without its flaws. Because it had instructions, I got more feedback over time than for "usual" MOCs, with people rightfully complaining about both build difficulty and the core. I was thinking about fixing that, but it was attempt on making the t70 what made me actually start working on it. First thing which I wanted to fix was the core. The original one was - I dare to say - clever, but a bit too much so. I don't remember why exactly but I wanted it to be just of 2x2x2 studs in each dimension. This generally worked, until the mold for 1x2 panel with window has changed. The core was compact and relatively solid, but it had too much friction to control it from an axle going from the stand, and too little to keep wings from flopping around. Plus it was really awkward to build. So this is the new core: It is much more solid and provides good attachment points, altough it requires both of its halves to be kept together, ideally with brackets or someother external structure. The new core uses worm gears and so it can be screwed in more tightly than the previous one, and it being on worm gears also means there is no floppiness in either of the end positions (...altough it all is very loose "in transition"). Of course the new one is double the size so entire fuselage had to be rebuilt... so it was. Another goal was to simplify the internal build, most importantly remove ball joint connections and flex hoses. As for flex hoses I was able to do so, but some ball joints had to be retained. They are just too convenient to use, altough I still don't like how one has to align everything properly if the model depends too much on them. Yet another goal was fixing some issues regarding the proportions: The left one is the new one, and right one is the old one (please ignore the weird gun situation :D). Most notably the wings location and shape is redone, and nose tip has much better shape. Oh and I got rid of those ultra-expensive wheel pieces for the guns. I liked them but something seems to have drained them from BL, no idea what really. So there it is: My second approach to the Incom T-65B X-Wing. As usual regarding my SW stuff, instructions are available at https://www.brickvault.toys/ Everyone who got V1 gets a 50% discount via e-mail. Thanks for support!

YES. Thanks! This saves me hell of a redesign...
-
Yes. Exactly.

Investigation is underway, but it really seems those "studs with bars" come in two variants which are not discernible by color or even part number. Grey ones for example come in just one set released in 2021, and you can still get longer or shorter ones. I need to redesign that area, but unfortunately I am moving very soon and my workshop is already packed. There is not much help I can give right now, sorry.

Thanks for feedback! Regarding rear hexagon, something is VERY wrong here: This doesn't work: This does: Are my eyes deceiving me or the black 1x1 rounds with handle have longer handle than grey ones? What the actual F here, lego? EDIT: !@#)$(@%_!@#_!!!

They are there to allow the light to spread a bit better.

No creation is ever 100% finished. Over time, new parts are released by LEGO and new ideas are born. Once enough of those accumulate, then a model may get an update. That said, while there are some ideas I have to improve the RC, they are all related to ease of build and durability. I am pleased with the extrenal look and as of now I do not plan to change it as of now.

Yes, it was a major hassle to get it right. At this length (I don't remember anymore but IIRC it was 43 studs long) canopy should be close to 11.5 x 3, and narrower in the front than in the back. There's absolutely no shape like this available in any of the glass pieces so I tried one or two alternate solutions... It took me a while to settle on the back-extension only solution.
-
Unfortunately that stupid piece was decided back in 2017 when I made my first SW ship... now that all of them have glass canopy, this one had to have it too, and this piece was one of two solutions which worked - at all. Fuselage is completely redone when compared to T65. It looks a bit similar and some ideas are reused, but exact piece placement is completely different. So I'd write it as altering, yes ;) This is mostly because T70 simply has different body when compared to older T65: Much slimmer, and the cockpit is moved forward significantly. T70 looks more like a mid-engined car than rear-engined T65 did. Yeah, sure. Maybe not right now, but surely.

Thanks for appreciation! - I have no idea about how many parts are common with any of the sets, but this was not considered at all. Any overlap must be a complete coincidence. I guess if there is 15% overlap then that's all. - Sturdiness is... hmm. It is better built but then source material is harder too. So the fuselage, nose and guns are definitely more sturdy. It also doesn't have touch-to-break engines anymore. But at the same time, the source material dictates wings to be long and very slim, so there is little you can do to make them solid. That said, when going to an expo, I just bubblefoiled entire model "as is" and it required about a minute of easy fixes regarding the guns. And mine is using 4+8 plates on the bottom wings instead of single 12-long one, so the final thing is a bit stronger. If I would give them stats and say the old t65 had 3/10 durability, this one would have 4/10. - Designed specifically not to have any! Engine intake arches are few dollars, cockpit canopy can be expensive if you go for silver one (but only grey ship should have silver one, and even then it looks good with LBG - like on the photos above). Next position on the list is actually 63 bog-standard 1x4 plates. I suspect over time Sai's will become expensive, but then you can just use any other gun solution: jumper + flex hose, shoulderpad or the ski visor. Thanks! Regarding last thing: yes, but no. And I can't tell why, sorry. I promise it makes sense! :) Thanks! ^^

Building a T70 feels like finding a secret boss of SW LEGO builds. You have to try it to understand. You take all the difficult traits of plain old T-65 rebel X-Wing: wing folding mechanism, cockpit with no suitable canopy, septagonal fuselage crossection - and take each of them up to eleven. You have to do the same wing folding mechanism but in a tighter hull, plus both upper and bottom wings have to meet and form a flush surface. You thought that there's no suitable cockpit canopy for the old T65? Haha, joke is on you, have fun finding 12x3 canopy for T70. Septagonal fuselage? Yup, still there, just... tighter, narrower, sleeker. I am not even trying to argue that this what I built is "accurate". It is a very obvious compromise between accuracy and just looking good in bricks. To make it match the rest of the starfighter fleet I had to use glass cockpit, and after several attempts I ended up using the standard one, with visual "extension" to at least partially extend it to match intended look. The wing mechanism core is a completely new construction compared to the one I used before... and a bigger one: it is now a 4x4x4 cube instead of 2x2x2 one. Unfortunately, the modl for window panels I used has changed and no longer can be used. Plus, while the old core worked, I can't say I was a fan of it. New core at least works much more smoothly and is notably less crazy when assembling. Wings were fun, but ultimately not that huge challenge. Fitting landing gear however was :D All in all I consider this to be far from perfect but still a worthy attempt. There is a notable shortage of t70 builds. Maybe some of those ideas can be used and expanded upon by next t70 challengers who wish to try their chance? As usual, instructions are available at https://www.brickvault.toys/products/x-wing-t-70-starfighter-minifig-scale Cheers!

Guys, it is okay. He's got an oppinion he is totally right to have. We don't have to agree just as he doesn't have to agree with instructions' price... and that's it. Nobody got hurt!

Making it in standard high enough to be "instructionable", designing all the steps and instructions themselves made it take me about a year from first piece laid to final commit. Making just the MOC itself would take up to about 3 months, leaving me with 9 months free for building. Considering how this was never really profitable considering the time it took, and now Chinese are taking the rest of it away, I am already reducing amount of MOCs I make instructions for. I don't expect to make more than one in 2022 aside from mandatory updates to existing ones. Maybe two if something particularly special appears, dunno. So I guess reasonably soon I will only get +1s from you ;)
-
Thanks! Welllll.... yeah, it is your choice. It is still supporting chinese *$(@$ who put zero effort into actually doing any work themselves. Which is honestly better than if they do put any effort :D That's what you'll receive: vs That's not just shoddy assembly or parts quality, they have for some reason altered the design, probably to fix some issues. Mine definitely is not flawless, absolutely no. Nose assembly is proven to be demanding to get right and is quite fragile even then, but somehow the chinese managed to also break landing gear, remove some structural joints, mess up engines and do some other little changes which make no sense whatsoever. But at least you'll get a super long body and some wisdom!
-
Kudos for making one of ugliest ships in SW fandom into something actually cool, nice and making sense! Ditching all the stupid little addons really helped it!
-
This most likely is a designer's error which has been missed by the QA team. There is no way to legally disassemble this.
-
Timing may be bad but effect is great. I like how it is large, but not humungous and how while it has quite a lot of studs showing, they are spread uniformly, creating a logical and good looking texture. Honestly looks significantly better than the UCS to me.

84 is the last one. It contains major improvement to the front landing gear and some minor optimizations. If I remember correctly, if you have built v81 already, you need two additional 1x2 plates in the landing gear in the front. But ideally you should get v84. If someone bought the instructions reasonably recently, please tell me when and I'll ask BV guys when did they publish v84. There might have been some issue
-
Looks pretty good! I'd personally keep it all in LBG to make it a little bit more unified. The 2x2 inverted slope could be black; it would then not be really noticeable from the outside. Same for the 3x4 wedge with cutout in the front of the canopy; try it in black or DBG. As for the screwdrivers, you can just use some flex hoses for now, they make nice barrels. Or - alternatively - try sticking another binocular there.
-
You will need to use mlcad. Studio does not have cut flexible pieces available, while in mlcad there is a generator for flexibles. Then instructions will be probably done in LPub in one of its variants.

I like it because it is a truly new approach to the topic. There are the studded, set-like TIEs, there are ones meant to be as smooth as possible, and now there's a greeble-centric design. Maybe not my thing but definitely a work worth a great appreciation! To me the only thing which "clashes" a bit with general aesthetics are wing beams/spokes as you call them; they could use some greebling too, as they are not smooth on the filming model. This makes sort of a conflict between greebled core and relatively smooth panels. Same for rims; I'd go with flex hoses on clips as discussed somewhere else, just to add this final little piece of detail.

Send me your e-mail via pw and I'll send you the parts list. Then you can upload it to BL and see yourself.

I'd just try black stickers on the sides, if you wish to have this opening. And perhaps a 2x4 tile on top of that.
