@ Ratshot and lightningtiger - Thanks a mill guys, this means a lot to me! I really laughed out once I saw how that photo of Mr. Yumkee turned out... I might be using him as an avatar soon, replacing the (mini)figure which seems to have gotten way too familiar. Oh, and I'm glad you actually saw the folded sheet - I was a bit worried that the interior photos weren't very well taken But it's not a tavern matey! It's an inn, and Mr. Paddles likes to keep things calm for his customers Thanks Jim. I came up with the idea of using treasure chest lids because I really wanted to have a roof structure that looks interesting from up above. Credit goes to SlyOwl for that, I think I first saw him use that technique here.

Touché! But I've also seen some MOCs dedicated to moi: Hehheheheh :) @Rick: Got any blue suede shoes?
-
Oh well, I managed to get done on time, so I'm sure all the other lazy pirates will do too It would be great to finally see that church that gets attached to the Town Square!

Does anybody else like Motorcycles around here?
MetroiD replied to Captain Green Hair's topic in Community
No doubt about that. Besides, I always say that speed is what bikes are there for - and that's one of my primary reasons for being anti-tuner, anti-racer, etc. A car needs to be comfortable and nice to look at, what it doesn't (necessarily ) need is 500bhp. -
Here's another way to look at things - we didn't vote Pvt. Reutal off last night and we're all still here today. If he was indeed the cold-blooded killer you want us all to believe he is, don't you think you or some of his other freshly-made enemies would have been dead some 12 hours ago!? He had a plethora of people to choose from, all of whom were convinced they should vote him off. Yet all of us are here today - albeit going over the same stuff as yesterday. I don't see why I should vote Pvt. Reutal off just in order to find out whether Pvt. Perot is sane or not - to me, the answer to that question is pretty obvious. If anything, I'd rather vote against Pvt. Perot if what we're aiming at here is finding out what his allegiance is!

Instant favourite! The last floor is brilliant, although I'm a bit worried about where those fire alarm shots end up landing Hope those firemen are extra careful where they aim!

Drinking himself to sleep? Poor ol' captain That's a very nice entry, martin, I totally dig the blue colour of the building - makes for a very original exterior and a really fresh interior. I do hope Ratshot & the boys will manage to find some extra space for this great build!

Thanks for the comments guys :) It's my first Pirates MOC (if it could be called a "Pirates MOC" actually), so I'd be happy to get as much feedback as I can. I've implented a few techniques I've seen here on EB - most notably, the chest lid roof was something I'd been wanting to use for some time now; credit to SlyOwl for that. Thanks for the tip Croissant - as a matter of fact, I did have a sign just outside the wall (attached to the outhouse), but I didn't really like how it made the whole building look. A bit too stereotypical, which is not what I was going for. Besides, I specifically wanted this one to have a Pirates look and feel to it - we've seen way too many Castle Inns and I wanted to refrain from using typical Medieval European Architecture and too many other common things you'd expect to see in/around an inn. As to the staircases - I know they're both too small for a regular minifig, but anything bigger would look pointless given the limited space. I like the way the outer staircase turned out, and I've tried many different variations for the one leading to the storage room under the roof, but this one still worked best. I'll definitely be recycling this design in my future Pirates Town, so I can assure you I'll try to get spacier stairs

#5 - Town Square: #33 - Paddles' Inn: Both pics are links. The overhead shot of both buildings together side by side, as depicted in the town map:

The newly founded Pirate town of Eurobrickia was supposed to be a nice change from the regular sight of densely packed small shacks that pirates call homes and dirty streets they'd usually roam on. That's why the town council spent quite a few bucks on paving the streets, which turned out to be a more substantial investment than initially planned. After the money was all spent, the town square was left with well-paved (for the most part) alleys and nice plants, but a semi-completed fountain, which was probably never going to be adorned by the beautiful statue the council had planned for it. So instead, they had to play it by ear and recycle any materials they had lying around. Luckily enough, a ship's mast in pristine condition had been salvaged a few weeks earlier (it was pretty much the only thing left from The Dauntful after an engineering miscalculation had sent her to the bottom of the seas with her first broadside ever). The rest is history, as they say... The people of Eurobrickia are now used to the ship's mast which serves as the town's focal point, and they don't mind the fact that some swashbucklers find it hard to give up on their "observational" habits. Soon, an old entrepreneur (which might sound like an oxymoron, but is obviously not impossible) moved to town and started selling pirate paraphernalia at the Town Square. There have been many questions raised about where he'd gotten all his hooks, hats and swords from - not to mention the parrots - but the mysterious trader has so far not shared any of his history with the townsfolk. That veil of mystery has definitely boosted his sales and by now everyone knows him and shops from him regularly - especially the kids who enjoy dreaming up stories about the hooks they see on that stand, and promise their dads that one day they are going to be able to afford a parrot and set sail towards new lands along with their trusted feathered companions. Until then though, getting a hat like the one dad has is the next best thing. A few photographs of both our entries for the Community Build alongside each other: And the overhead shot. I've provided a photograph of both the Town Square and the Inn as they are drawn in the Town map, so that you won't have to photoedit those two. You can find our other Community Building - Paddles' Inn - here. As usual - there's more @ Brickshelf (when moderated) and @ flickr

#33 in the Community Build: Paddles' Inn. Paddles' Inn was one of the first buildings to be erected in the Pirates' Town. After a successful stint at sea, Jim Paddles decided to return to his landlubbing habits and invest his earnings, rather than squander them. That also gave him a nice opportunity to put his interesting surname to good use and even implement it in his Inn's design. He was only given a small piece of land by the Town Council for his guest house, but he still managed to fit 2 bedrooms on the second floor, and a nice master bedroom on the first one - with an outhouse conveniently placed in the yard of the inn. During the annual Pirates fair, Jim would move out of the master bedroom, even though his wife was never too happy about having to sleep in the reception hall - but that big bedroom is definitely a nice place to stay the night and gives plenty of reason to charge the customer obscene amounts of money... Who says being a landlubber can't be lucrative!? Right now however, the town's pretty quiet, no ships are docked and no captains have returned with a seizable loot to squander. The only visitor in Paddles' Inn is the aging self-proclaimed Terror of the Seas, Captain Doublebeard. Unfortunately, the only thing that's terrible about him is the amount of bread crumbles his beard is capable of storing after dinner - other than that, ol' Doublebeard hasn't really managed to win any significant battles, or find any great treasures. That's all about to change though - or at least that's what Doublebeard thinks after having found a treasure map in the drawer of his bedroom. Little does he know that such maps are included in the drawers of every single bedroom and this tradition would later on evolve into inns and hostels all over the world placing certain books in their visitors' drawers. If there's one single person (?) who's really enjoying this lazy, quiet day at the inn, that's Yumkee the Monkey who, unlike his owner, does enjoy a glass of good rum. Or a bottle. Whichever comes first. Jim says all that drinking does is waste your hard-earned money, but seeing as that's the only kind of remuneration Yumkee requires for his labour (related to the outhouse, but better left unexplained), Mr. Paddles sees this as a justified expense. Busy humming her favourite pirate tune (which she heard on 'Behind the Helm'), Lora Paddles hasn't noticed that her cleaning is not very effective and is actually helping drive away one of the few potential visitors of the inn... Last but not least - the overhead shot: You can find our other Community Building - the Town Square - here More photos available @ flickr and Brickshelf (when moderated).

Oh damn. The one tag I feel I must have... Guess I need to do more chatting about bikes Or build more of them in minifig scale :D -
Absolutely. Sonic is definitely NOT Nintendo. Mario for Nintendo, Sonic for SEGA, that was the division back in the day. Heeellooooooo? (sorry, but I just can't resist it ) @ Zorbas: Laugh all you want buddy, fact is - I'm friggin famous!!!

* Sigh. That's sooooo Svelte. As much as I love your size comparisons when you come up with those modular behemoths, I'm even more eager to see what MOC you come up with using those bricks...
-
Keep them and tweak them is what I do. Currently, all the modulars are stored in a separate cupboard since I don't have space for an actual display anyway. I've also kept a few other sets and MOCs intact, but generally everything is sorted and added to the respective box of bricks. As Ralph says, it's all about building - which is also why I'm guilty of stealing the occasional brown tile from the Cafe Corner... Hopefully, the modulars will still be around in a few years when I'll be able to afford to buy multiple copies of each - I definitely want to keep them all assembled, but the parts contained in those sets are simply amazing... So my current vote would most probably read something like "Store away to keep from dust & direct sunlight and steal random parts". P.S.: I found one of the vote options mysteriously mystifying... Can you pleeeease resurrect Scruffy *nudge nudge*

Hm, why the swipe at EB MOCs, if I may ask? As to the quotes - by the looks of it, you probably keep deleting the {/quote} code at the end of the quote. @NewRight: What did you intend this one to be? The wall of a castle? A town gate? The way it is now, its position seems rather weird to me - if it were a castle, then this little beach would most probably be inexistent, serving as foundation for the wall, not standing in front of it - and if it were a town wall, it would most probably be located at a greater distance from the beach itself. I think you should decide for yourself what kind of element that wall is and build on from there. Keep the rock arch if you can though - looks great to me!

I asked Ratshot that same question and he told me the deadline is Monday night, CET European Central Time Zone -- or a bit later ;)
-
Problem is, once the upper wing of the diffuser gets removed in Australia, the McLarens will become considerately slower -- and Ferrari are off to a flying start, obviously! Mercedes GP will only get better in time, and so will Red Bull... In any case, it was a great start to an awesome new season - and seeing all those new cars, teams and drivers out there I felt like I hadn't been watching F1 for 15 years or something!
-
I'm not sure that's good enough as a reason for threads like this one. Besides, I'm not sure there's anything to enjoy in this guy's videos anyway. Just another teenager trying to act/speak funny - we've had tons of those ever since youtube's inception (in the meantime, some have become "stars" in their own eyes) so you can probably understand my lack of enthusiasm for his random box of LEGO - and all the other stuff.

What? An entire topic about me? Why thank you veeeery much! ...oh wait... Now for the real stunner - I have never played Metroid. Not one single game from the series. I used to have a poster (came along with my GameBoy) and I really loved the sound to that name, so I used it as my nickname and it sort of stuck. I never knew that a "metroid" was actually that brain-sucking creature which Samus Aran would end up befriending and which would help defeat some-boss-whose-name-I-don't-know in the end. In any case though, I still like the sound and I've been using this nickname for ages (15+ years), so I don't think I'll ever use any other alias, even though I'm not a huge Metroid fan. Now, Zelda, that's a different story. Good thing I didn't use that as a nickname though (or "Link", for that matter). I love the series and have decided to catch up on all those games I've missed (I'd only played Link's Awakening on GameBoy, but I'm now roaming temples in "Ocarina of Time"). Mario, well, Mario is legend. Nuff said. :) Your definition of Nintendo's top 3 games is spot on. Every now and then, out comes a game that is so unique you just know that's why you love Nintendo so much ;)

I can't help but wonder why this one has so few comments! As it is right now, this one is definitely one of my favourite entries in the Community Build. I definitely enjoy seeing the Islanders trading with the pirates - and the structure itself reminds me of an old Town set. Both of these elements work absolutely great when mixed together with good ol' Classic Pirates, and you've done a great job mate! Oh, and by the way, how much was a croissant worth back then?!
-
I'd have liked to be able to see the Church before completing the Town Square, so that I know how to position the pathways... In any case though, there's not much I can do even if it's uploaded in the last split second which I pretty much doubt by now In other news, the Inn is 100% complete but I won't be uploading it until I'm done with the Town Square as well (which means our part of the Community Build will be uploaded sometime later tomorrow - hope that's OK).

Piece of information, rather than "evidence", sounds more like what I've shared with you here. And I can't understand why it is that you guys are unhappy when I have nothing to report, and then when I do in fact have information I deem of utmost importance, my fellow soldiers are once again not too pleased about my actions. Maybe I should follow the example of other soldiers in this Regiment and just show up for voting without uttering a word throughout the day?! Anyway, back to my report from earlier today - all I said was that my colleague Ian Des has the capability to kill people at night. And I've done that because I thought that's what's best for the Regiment at this point, seeing as we're all looking for the killer here.
-
Now for the last time, say what you will, but let us Provosts do our jobs. I know you boys are jealous of the gold that embellishes our shoulders, but I suggest you find a way to deal with it, rather than trying to point the finger at us. That said, I am a bit unsure who to believe with all these accusations pointing in the direction of my colleague... I could assume he's an honoured man just doing his job, but I'm reminded of the fact that Sgt. Stamphill did find a knife in his backpack... Mr. Des has been trying to convince me that he is indeed not a killer, even though I've said on multiple occasions that I have faith in him. The latter, combined with my feelings of camaraderie towards my colleague, was the reason why I didn't share what I've found out about Mr. Des earlier. Now, however, seeing as we need every bit of detail in order to put the jigsaw together, I believe that I must put my feelings behind and do my job. Mr. Des has the ability to roam our camp at night, killing people... He has been convincing me that he hasn't used it at all for fear of killing another honoured soldier, but I fail to understand how he could choose to overlook the powers he has been given that could be put to good use by successfully going after the deserters?! Furthermore, with all the killings that have taken place over the course of the first couple of days, I am not sure if he hasn't actually used his action - with him having a knife at his disposal, AND a moustache as well... I don't know if Pvt. Shadón has made up this information regarding one of the Guards being a deserter or not and I'd like to believe it was all an attempt to turn us on to each other. As I've said, it was my intent to stay loyal to my colleague, but so far he's said a lot of things in his defence, yet failed to share this piece of rather conspicuos evidence with you boys. I have a duty to keep you informed - and now I've answered its call.

Cheers Georgi :] Keep up the great work, can't wait to see the finished article! Sorry I can't help you with the interior, but it's not like I've been in thousands of fire stations either P.S.: This one goes for your other Modulars as well - it's really nice to see a break from the usual Modular designs. For someone to hike into more modern territory while following the modular standard is a wonderful thing and I believe your MOCs will definitely look lovely in April - this is surely going to be the central hub of town! And with such awesome modern buildings, I guess we need to start thinking about modern ways of transportation...
