CMF Mafia 2 - Day 2 - Special Delivery
MetroiD replied to TrumpetKing's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
In light of recent events, I'll obviously have to Unvote: Kelly Lester (Kristel) I'm doing this because I want to trust our claimed cop. It's good to see that his work has supposedly led us somewhere, even though it also seems to show that my scumdar is totally off. Kelly has been pretty itchy for a mermaid, but at least now that we know what's been going on behind the scenes, her suggestions on how we should all claim to her makes much more sense. On the other hand - Bleeb seems fairly uninterested in actively defending himself, just like his accusers still don't seem to want to provide us with all the information they have on him. This could be a waiting game, but if that's the case, it doesn't seem like it's working; once again, we've got a bunch of inactive faces around. It could also be that Bleeb was precisely the one that Kelly and Helen discussed lynching in private. I still definitely don't feel comfortable about lynching him though... I was hoping we'd have much more information on him; instead, we get more information on Kelly and Helen... Which is not too bad, but for some weird reason, it feels to me as though the Day thread is playing out a bit like yesterday, with the catfight stealing the show. -
CMF Mafia 2 - Day 2 - Special Delivery

Wait, could we just get that straight? Sooo I’m a scummy councilor who has carefully devised an elaborate and devious plan to accuse in public and focus the suspicions on Kelly, a fellow scummy councilor, so that Bleep, an innocent Monster Townie, could be spared the lynch? Awwww, aren’t I the sweetest! Or were you suggesting that I’m trying to cover Bleep’s *bleep* by focusing my vote on someone else instead? Or wait, are all three of us just scummy scumsters? Please at least take the time to make up your mind. Please read up this time, so that I don't have to annoy everyone with the same story over and over? Synopsis: Your voting on Day One was well unfounded and instead just followed someone else’s lead. 2 times. As I’ve stated on numerous occasions – that, to me, constitutes scummy behaviour and I wouldn’t have changed my vote, even though that put me in a position where I could rightly be accused of diluting the vote by actually not going along with the proposed lynch victim on either occasion. Now, however, I’m more inclined to accept that you’re letting someone else do the thinking for you. I just hope you have good reason to trust them. Guilty as charged. Care to share what your attempts have led to then? I didn’t see that as part of your motivation for voting against him, and since I’m not privy to your personal conversations, all I’m left with is Bleeb’s comments in the day thread. Some of which actually make more sense than some of yours… I’m not joining the Bleeb bandwagon. Yet. If you want to be of service to all the Monsters who are also in the dark, please help me make up my mind. Because as of right now, I don’t buy your explanation for the whole *snippity snip* thing. -

So Sally has chosen to once again follow Helen's rhetorical rhetoric. Not surprising, then again I'm not so sure it's scummy behaviour anymore either - since that would have been way too obvious. Right? Or is my councilumdar completely broken? It would, however, have been nice if the first accusers could have substantiated their nominations a bit more elaborately. Which in turn would probably have helped loosen the lynchee's tongue as well. Just a notion. Also, I'm still waiting for some proper action. Outbursts or something. Just gimme dramah! Anyone? It doesn't have to be as good as yesterday's public spat. Although, come to think of that, didn't that look a bit, oh I don't know, scripted!? Especially given the pretty much complete lack of fallout today... Then again, that's also how Kelly's suggestion looked when it just shot out of the blue today. "Let's all claim to the mermaid, she'll help us get to the bottom of it." - well let's try and get to the bottom of it then. Vote: Kelly Lester (Kristel) Oh, and - who the fork was Kelly trying to have Helen lynch anyway? Speaking of action, there goes a day which was supposedly filled with alter-ego-claiming behind the curtains. What have we got? We got nowt (else). Has this hairdresser potentially found her long-forgotten Geordie roots? Probably not, just too much hair product. -

True words. Apparently, most of you seem to think that it's best to claim one's alter-ego to someone we trust, be that the claimed Monster Cop or our self-confessed button-pushing wine addict Helen. Whether that does indeed build up the trust on both sides, I'm not sure - the only thing I'm sure about is that this would turn our days into a turn-based game of waiting and hoping on one or two Monsters to lead the way. And what if they're not Monsters?... If trust is the key here, I don't think it should only be vested in one person - but then again, the more Monsters babble about their alter-egos, the more opportunities the Councilors will have to connect the dots. On the other hand, we still have absolutely no guarantees with regards to whether alter-egos are connected to power roles or allegiances, so all of this might in the end lead us nowhere - at least in terms of usefulness of alter-egos. However, it will still give us more opportunities to gauge each other's reactions than if we just sit back and talk about the same thing over and over. In the off chance it does help us though, I've actually followed our clown's suggestion (never ever thought I'd say that... but then again I'm a hairdresser, what do you expect). Cards on the table and all... let's see where that gets us today. -

First part - no. Second part - yes. Third part - lynch me, to put this gently. Helen - you really need to lay off the wine for the next few hours. Just try it. Here, I'll even give you a free hairdo. Only condition is you sober up first. Want some coffee too? Or would you rather just refrain from communicating with me in the long run? Be a dear and go read through the Day threads again. Both of them. Since you'll probably need me to spell it out for you anyway, here goes: my alter-ego is a Monster, and yet, it is pretty human and none too monstrous either. As a matter of fact, at first I actually thought my alter-ego was my role, even though I was given to understand I had no night action in my bio. I haven't played the first chapter, remember? And I try not to metagame... And yes, as you could probably tell, it took me a few hours from Day One to actually get a grasp on things. Seriously though, asking people around to see whether I've been catching up "behind the curtains" and avoiding to post? When I've reiterated that I wouldn't have changed my vote because - surprise surprise - it was the only move that made sense to me by the end of Day One? Oh, and you even call it weak case. When all you've done is - jog my memory? To quote our dearly drunk friend once again, -

Same as we did yesterday. At least that's how I feel. Are these assumption enough to warrant a manhunt? If so, what's the best we could achieve that way? Find out whether our host has actually decided to follow up on what was done in a previous 'chapter' of this game or not. And risk losing another bunch of Monsters in the meantime? While I don't like the fact that you're trying to steer us in the way of something that didn't really 'work' on Day One, Helen, I understand your motives given the fact that we never had the opportunity to test your theory. I for one though have every reason to believe that Monsters could still be Monsters without in fact matching all the monstery stereotypes. How about we try looking at facts and patterns here instead? We now actually have plenty of material from yesterday to serve as evidence as to who followed whom, what directions were taken and how those were substantiated. Speaking of which - I would not have changed my vote from Day One regardless of the accusations against our dearly departed Starfish. And that's saying a lot, considering I couldn't really give him a hairdo, now could I - or get his scalp for my collection. Also, we know that there was presumably at least one Monster who tried to keep himself busy overnight. I'm not suggesting he comes out in public and shares with us whether he got any results from that, but based on his reaction so far, I'm guessing he's hopefully managed to at least formulate a circle of trust around him. I agree that looking at (non-) voting patterns might help here, at least as a start. While it will definitely not be enough, the reactions we get from people who flew under the radar could help make sense of it all. Lat but not least, minotaur, anyone? Kid minotaur, no less... We have a surprise 'hidden' appearance at the end of Day One and everyone chooses to ignore it!? -
CMF Mafia 2 - Day One - On the Case
MetroiD replied to TrumpetKing's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Why you believe that I "keep claiming" anything is beyond me. I'm just showing what's called reasonable doubt, as should any sane Monster on day one, surrounded with this flurry of finger-pointing. Aren't you also at least slightly worried whether we're lynching the right person tonight? I don't mind getting some coffee instead of wine, as long as it isn't mean, darlin, but... Was it not true that precisely your initial convictions were that Derek was one of the council members based on his alter-ego thoughts and theories? I wasn't trying to offend you honey, nor was I pointing fingers. If anything, I'd call it credit where credit is due. In all fairness, Derek's roleclaim also reeks of desperation to me as well, and I'd credit that to him being asked into an alter-egooy corner... However, I don't find his initially voiced theory sufficiently wrong per se to actually join the witchhunt against him. His actions afterwards are what's worrying to me - and they might be the consequence of scumminess indeed, or just an attempt to clutch at any single straw out there in order to avoid being lynched on Day One. If it's the latter though, I'm sure he has by now realised that he's done us Monsters a huge disfavour by blabbing as much as he did, and that is in turn the real reason (at least to me) to feel suspicious of him. There's others around us though who are demonstrating equally erratic and worrying behaviour, so let's see how this day develops.- 267 replies

Either way, you could have made much more use of your power role by trying to rally Monsters around you. Instead, you've openly shared it in public, so that now the scum can make sure you remain useless throughout the game. A round of applause for a situation really well handled. In all honesty, I for one can really buy the notion that you've become entangled in a stupid mess of "is this alter-ego monster enough or not" and "how monstrous should monsters look and sound to actually qualify as monsters" - which, in itself, is not the best thing on which to base our game and assumptions. But at the same time I'm absolutely convinced that you haven't done what's best for your fellow Monsters in this instance. That is, of course, as long as your claim is valid, which is still anyone's guess. But you are darling - and I just don't trust you one single bit. For some weird reason, you first pushed us in one direction in the beginning of the day, and from that point onward you've been trying to play innocent and lost. I'm the hairdresser who makes little other use of her head here, remember? I said I wanted to hear some more of what you had to say, and instead you've let this whole thing play out trying to ride it out and successfully lynch what might potentially be our Cop thanks to Helen's wine-induced ramblings... It would. Please do. In the meantime, Vote: Sally Carrotine (Scubacarrot)- 267 replies

I find it disheartening that you are already metagaming. And that's before I've even had the chance to cut someone's hair! Which in itself is downright appalling. Now, while I was pondering what yall were talking about, what with that alter-ego crazy stuff and all, you've become nice and organized and even pretty much managed to agree on someone to lynch ourselves tonight. Aint that sweet! While I'd luv nothing more than to jump the bandwagon especially since my current state is obviously close to one of cluelessness anyway, lemme just try and share my thoughts with yall... Derek sounds scummy, that much is a notion I can share. To me, the reason for that though are in no way his ramblings about egos and alters and stuff, but much more the way in which he kept referring to 'monsters' as 'them' in the initial stages of his rant. …and then he started contradicting himself. Not really though. But actually yes, really. Subconsciously or not, you drew a line there, Derek honey, and then stepped over it a couple of times, but I really don’t like the side you actually seem to be standing on. So what, are you above doing a bit of monstering every now and then!? So yeah, I’d probably be voting right now, even there hadn’t been someone else’s action that caught my eye earlier. Seems I wasn’t the only one either… While I’m not in any kind or form interested in seeing Sally’s dick, I’m not sure I buy her defense of “innocently roleplaying” while sharing ludicrous suggestions. I’d really be interested in hearing some more from Sally & Dick Derek before I cast my vote… After two pages hours of alter-ego-talk, not anymore. Ya could say I've caught up, but then again, ya can never be too sure. I'm just a hairdresser, remember, we use our heads for other purposes. I've got a suggestion though, how about pouring me a glass of that nice wine of yours, hmmmm? It seems to give one quite the boost to deduction skills and all... I know I'm probably going to follow your lead tonight, but I also know I'd have a lot to doubt if it turns out to have led us in the wrong direction.- 267 replies

Thanks for sharing - what a sweet build! The colour combo works great and the different arch curves combine for a really delightful look - I was just wondering why you've added the round plates beneath the white mudguards, to me they seem to take a bit away from that nice double curve effect... I'm also digging the offset 2-wide diagonal wall just by the door - it would have been cool if that feature could have been accented just a tad bit more, but that would probably have ruined the clean look of the second floor facade. Have you tried placing this alongside the Market Street? I think those two could look smashing together.

CMF Mafia 2 - Confirmation and Discussion
MetroiD replied to TrumpetKing's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
What? Off with what heads again? Don't you let anything happen to those pretty pretty hairy heads of yours! Give them to meee, so that my skilled hands can transform them into works of art. And then preserve them for future generations. On your own scalps. In nice tall jars offering complete unobstructed visibility. Because that's how good a hairdresser I am!!! Oh and howdy yall, the name's Melinda. -
Once again, I take my hat off to you Andybear! Just when I thought I'd seen all the minifig-scale Veedub's imaginable - you've come up with the definitive masterpiece (at least in my books it is). Absolutely smashing! I especially love the fact that you've not gone for 5- or 6-wide and have instead chosen to build it in 4-wide. To me, this scale does fit the vehicle perfectly, especially given its real-life dimensions.

1. The Scarecrow. What; he could be scary, given the proper scenario... 2. The Era of Invention - late 19 / early 20 century. 3. Played 4, survived / won 2. 4. This (only time I've ever been voted out - but I did go out in style!) Aside from that, I really enjoyed the Undercover Furries Sting Operation that Waterbrick Down and I managed to pull off to Town's advantage in Hinckley's Fabuland Housewives. 5. Yep!

I would have loved to join this one straight away. However, seeing as it's been a while since I last MOC'ced anything, and I'll only be able to start building after the first half of January, I'll probably sit it out and just enjoy the show from the sidelines. It's an absolutely awesome concept though and I can't wait to see the creations that teamwork on such a high level is bound to yield.

Wow, starting the new year in style, Tony! She's a true beaut, and judging by your story, she can't wait to get going! I was wondering - what's the pulling power on one of these behemoths (I mean the LEGO version)?

Glad to be able to help. The Billy does keep dust off the LEGO, however it's obviously not perfect for displaying purposes. Even without the nasty effect of the doors cutting things in half, the arrangement it provides is still not too spectacular, even with full shelves. That said, I prefer neatness in this case, so once the high Billy becomes insufficient, I'll definitely get another one. Hopefully not too soon though, since that's all the LEGO display space available at home.

Dust build-up on sets / MOCs on display is one thing I really try to avoid. So modulars in our house get stored / displayed in an IKEA Billy bookcase with doors, alongside a select few other sets / MOCs. Granted, those Billy doors do cover up quite a bit right in the middle, but I'm OK with that, as long as I can keep (some of) the dust away from the LEGO. As you can see on the picture below, I use a "regular" IKEA Billy bookcase for most modulars, and a short IKEA Billy for trains, etc. The Billy's depth is spot-on for a 32x32 baseplate and in terms of length, you can almost fit in three of them, albeit a tad squeezed. The attached photo was taken a couple of months ago (as you can tell by the Autumn theme we had got going on then), so there have been a few changes and additions since then. We've now also attached doors to the 'short' IKEA Billy bookshelf, since dust was starting to become a bit of a problem for the Frigate - unfortunately, no see-through doors are available for this kind of Billy bookshelf, so we had to go for solid white ones.

Lovely entries everyone, and some really elaborate and inspired MOCs there! I am voting purely based on the Wintery Warm & Fuzzies that the contestants' designs have suceeded in providing me with... And so I am going to distribute my 5 points as follows: 27. Galaktek - 2 28. Simon_S - 1 10. Louie le Brickvalier - 1 26. moctown - 1

Thank you for the feedback and for your very nice comments! It's great to hear that so many of you guys are also getting your hands on the Parisian Restaurant real soon. And thanks for bringing that up - as a matter of fact, I knew that actual set content and brick usability were among the topics that I couldn't really touch upon due to the kind of form I'd chosen for the textual content of the review. Still, I hope that the stop-motion building video and the in-build photos help readers get well acquainted with those aspects. Back to your comment - personally speaking, I stopped looking at the modular Exclusives as parts packs quite a while ago. That said, I think you bring up a fair point in saying that the Parisian Restaurant does indeed pale in comparison to the Pet Shop or the Green Grocer when considering the amount of 'novelty' bricks included. On the other hand, I could argue that the Palace Cinema, for example, despite providing AFOLs with a nice amount of dark tan pieces, doesn't really come close to the design and the wow factor that the Parisian Restaurant has -- as a set. So at the end of the day, I guess it's a matter of what one would consider most important when purchasing a modular Exclusive. Since I've noticed that most people tend to leave them intact and "collect" them, I still believe that Chez Albert is a great structure, and on a smiles per brick basis, is one of the top LEGO sets I've built in quite a while.
