  1. A tad bit too much chop-cuusooey lately there, eh tiger?
  2. Bon anniversaire Jipay! Have a great one and enjoy the ride!!! If it's downhil as Sieggy suggests, it should be a total blast! (pssst: And let me know how it feels; membership in that triple-X club is also coming up fast for me...)
  3. Making the transition from Technic to System? Whoa, that sounds inspiring! Welcome out of lurking, hope this helps you enjoy your time on the forums even more!
  4. Hmmm, that's a very appealing notion, and it would also mean I'd have to come to the event... Deal! Can I have two please?
Sieggy: sorry for the German.
  6. Eeerm... I was just wondering, er... feeling a bit of an abstinence effect kicking in, so errr... when's the next Mafia game starting again?
  7. I totally understand the sentimental feeling, and I must admit I also get that "warm fuzzy" sensation as WhiteFang called it whenever I think of 80's and 90's LEGO. But it's precisely those huge boxes with lids, plastic windows and 10+ minifigs per set that almost drove LEGO out of business just about a decade ago. So there's always a dark side to the story, I guess. To be honest, I don't think there's many things that can really compare to the excitement of checking out the "coolest" elements, on display in the little plastic clear openings on the box, and then gazing at both sides of the lid for all the different ideas of what you could build with this set... But I accept that those times are behind us and I think that LEGO has moved on in a very good direction - I really consider what's been coming out in the last 5 years as being some of LEGO's best ever production. Personally, I'd never swap a Cafè Corner or even a Pet Shop ( ) for any fancy old lid-covered box. I could say I miss 9V or the Monorail, but I've already got enough of both. Plus, I really see the benefits of the PF system and am inclined to agree that it's not a bad development at all. Speaking of trains functionality, I do wish we had the endless possibilities for layout control that the 12V system presented LEGO fans with, but I realize that if this were to be implemented nowadays, the price would be astronomical. Other than that, I don't miss the disproportionate designs of old days, or the limited amount of bricks, and I must say I'm actually quite fond of the plethora of expressions which the minifig has now gained over the years. Not that I don't love the smiley face, but it's just a nice change - once again, presenting LEGO fans with endless possibilities and signaling a move in the right direction. All in all, while I did love the sets I grew up with, I think the product that LEGO has to offer nowadays is substantially improved - so no, there's nothing I really miss that much from older sets.
  8. I never use any digital design software either. I tend to lose the sense of it all unless I'm working with actual bricks. First of all, I like to work on getting the proportions right. After that, I almost always concentrate on the front end of the vehicle. Which is much easier with diesels / electric locs... In my experience, steamers require an integral approach since things are much more flowing and predetermined by the way you've implemented each single visual and technical aspect. After I'm done with what I believe is the catchiest visual cue (as noted above, most often that's the front end), I work towards completing the build from that point on, generally leaving all the techy aspects for the end since I like to try out various different approaches and simplify the tech-related things where possible. By the way, I also use my girlfriend as a guide towards the end of the building process. It's only when she tells me that what I've built does not quite look like the real thing that I also see it and get to redesign the flawed parts. So I must agree, it's nice to have a consultant by your side at all times.
  9. That TUI "Glider" looks wonderful... would have loved to be able to get that. Why didn't TUI offer such stuff while I was still in Germany!? On a sidenote - all the more reason to finally make it to an EB Event. Won't be this year though, apparently.
  10. Once again, I'll need to download the high-res pictures and study your build as closely as possible in hopes I'd manage to learn something. Awesome job - as usual!
  11. Very nice, it looks just like an official LEGO set. I personally would probably have gone for trans-clear headlights and would have ditched the 1 x 6 black plate below the lamps, but that's just me. All in all, it looks very much like the real thing, so good job on that!
  12. This reminds me of: ... so so true
  13. Who's ImperialShadows anyway? Is his shadow imperial? Does he have multiple shadows? Is he Not Shadows?! I'm confused. P.S.: Loving the Mafia jingle though!
  14. ...that's what you generally refer to as a scumtell. Unfortunately, only these red-tinted lackeys evil bastards can make any actual use of that.
  15. That would have been my suggestion as well. My PTV2 fav entry!
  16. Ah, yes, it wouldn't be a Holiday without one of your pro MOCs. Loving it - as usual! We need more MOCs like this -- which is my personal way of moaning about the need for more holiday as well...
  17. His d'oh expression is priceless! Great job
  18. If it weren't for my significant Otter, I probably would never have rediscovered my passion for LEGO. Besides, she was by far more enthusiastic about modular building than myself, and has been the designer of pretty much all our MOC houses. So yeah, we most definitely do... Even though she doesn't like the Shuttle Expedition and insists that it's not worth it! I'm getting it anyway though
  19. I'd recommend using Brickshelf or flickr to upload your pics (as opposed to using EB's limited storage space), and then you can just deeplink the images from the respective site in your Eurobricks thread. Here's a thread with info on how to upload pics to flickr and then link to them here on EB. If you need any assistance with that, just ask away.
  20. Grum64 - to say I am in awe of you and your great abilities would be an understatement. The same also goes to Rodeown and the other guys who have actually found the strength to enjoy life and every little thing in it, despite any difficulties you are faced with. In my mind, disabled is the last thing one could ever call you; it's very much the other way round actually - so hats off! Like most of the other guys & gals around here, I'm eager to see your future MOCs as well! I can imagine that it might feel weird in the beginning, but I am absolutely certain that once you get used to it, you will gain even more joy from your hobby. Besides, you look like the kind of person who could really come up with any brilliant type of thing - so enjoy your Air Tech Claw Rig - which I'm sure you'll manage to track down soon enough - and I hope it gives you some cool idea for a future MOC as well! P.S.: It's stuff like this when you see what people are really capable of and how much of an inspiration every one of us can be to the others that makes me feel really honoured to be a member of this community-- even though I admit I'm not a Technic guy by a long shot...
  21. If you can't contact Customer Service via telephone for some reason, here's the link you could use: clicky The above is in English / for the UK, but it should work regardless of your actual whereabouts.
  22. Once again - hi and welcome, Castor! Always glad to see new Town fans & builders around these parts! And I'm already looking forward to seeing more awesome MOCs from you.
  23. I think JopieK means NXT Mindstorms programming, in the vein of tracker / tracer robots? If so, I'm not sure that could be squeezed into a 4-wide vehicle but would love to see JopieK and his students prove me wrong.
  24. Yep, I've tried that sort of tapered connection for a tram MOC I was working on. Shared bogie / close coupling techniques are generally quite a practical solution when you want to get rid of the regular coupling for some reason. Good job on that, happy to see it's working for you! Here's another example for shared bogies I've seen recently, which also claims that the original author of this approach is Jason Allemann with his O-Train, as was my initial understanding. As you can tell, close coupling works perfectly well for Allemann's O-Train, even though the approach is different, so I can't see why it wouldn't be a safe bet for you as well :) Good luck!
  25. Great work ISC! Do they have ice cream there though...? That would really put the icing on the cake! Oh, and by the way - Islanders are my favourites too. Who cares about red vs blue fights when you can just sit under the shade all day and chill! Looking forward to the next part of your diorama!
