Sweet build! I love the sense of danger it conveys through the lava, sheer cliff face, and intense exp<b></b>ression of the figure! The cliff is pretty great! The bit where the studs show could have been covered better, but that's not a big deal as its only a small amount and from a certain angle. The angles you got are quite nice and realistic. The pools of lava are a really nice touch. They work very well in the scene. The lava carrier is a pretty nice vehicle too! One critique I'd make would be that the ground surrounding the cliff might be a bit too flat. It doesn't match the rocky cliff face in those regards, but I suppose it could just be a flat patch. Great work! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Sorry it took so long for me to get around to this! What a riot! I think Octan has found its mad scientist answer to Mantis's Sal! Looks like in your post you forgot to add your tags. Science and land (or air) vehicle apply, but tagging it as science is really the only useful tag considering the target planet. The build is quite nice. The little hover crafts look good! Very quirky and fun! The engines on the back are a nice touch and elevate the design a notch. The science equipment is fun, and looks practical, and boy you sure have a lot on tan 2-2 tiles! If I had one critique, it would be that the side opposite the Awesumnium deposit could benefit from some grass or green plates/tiles, but the Build is fine without them. The story is excellent! Very amusing! love that you confused the robot with one of Dr. Long's codes. great stuff! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Now that it's been mentioned, I have to agree that the ship has some mission to mars vibes. The black and lime green, coupled with the sleek moon-sliver shape lends it that feel. I really like this. It's a very solid ship. It's an interesting shape and position for cockpit, and the whole combination gives it an aggressive, MANTIS aesthetic. And I just love the back. The way youve stuck the engines out looks nice. My one critique would be the angled plate on the front saucer piece, as it detracts from the smoothness somewhat. Overall really great job! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

I'm on vacation now (in Scandinavia) and just witnessed your famous midsomer sun firsthand (in Andalsnes Norway, I didn't go any farther north in Sweden than Stockholm). Wow! How do you sleep in the summer!? Sorry... by not dramatic I meant unexpected, and abrupt. There was little buildup or indication that Raven would die, and nor was she allowed any final words... but that was not intended as a negative. I love how bluntly it was presented, and that actually makes it even more... painful and realistic... Also, I can't wait to see how her family handles the loss, assuming you continue in that vein. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Brutal! I love the dialogue here! Can't wait to witness Col. Brik's roaring rampage of revenge! The structures behind the col. Are nice. Wish we could see more of them, but they successfully convey the campsite vibe... and also look a little Oleon. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Not many answers yet, but the Build is nice. The angles on the speeder are well made, and the overall look is cool! and the building is nice too! That comes array looks good too! Great work! Can't wait to see how the story progresses. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Really cool vehicle! Impressive that you got those angles in the digital designer. Curious to see how this progresses, although, naturally, I disapprove of graffiti on Octan buildings... or sabotage for that matter. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

I never commented publicly on this, but in wake of recent events, I've decided to get around to it! I found this summary of events very useful for refreshing my memory of your story and some builds I missed during my hiatus! Thanks! I hope to see more summaries like this! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Wait. Holy shit. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? I feel... caught in a reactor overload?... Wow. Someone has to stop SpacerSteve before he kills us all! I already miss your builds! also, now I wonder who will build for Kawashita. great build. Clean, very similar to Spacer's build in appearance, although, in your style. Not exactly the dramatic death build Goatman's was, but to each their own. I actually like when characters die in totally non dramatic ways. I had some plans for a minor character of mine to do the same (Not Dr. Long), so I respect your story choice. Don't go! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"...Walk all over their hosts" The Invasive Species: Part 1 Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Interlude Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 (Finale) Tags: Science, Civil Buildings, Planet: Farmolis (The Axle, in Orbit) First time Readers of my story, check the bellow Spoilers section for some relevant info/links. Aboard the Axle, in Orbit of Farmolis (not a new build) Dr. Long: "This is Dr. Danielle Long, please respond, Mr. Dillberg. Odus Dillberg: "Danielle!? Is that you!? How've you been!?" Dr. Long: "I'm on my way. I'll be on the Axle within 8 standard business hours. Please prepare for my arrival." Odus: "With pleasure!" An hour or so later... Secretaries by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Ding dong the Long is back! The Doctor Long is back! Odus: "Alright, Alexis, forward the return message to all Axle employees. Bubba-Jack, you coordinate with the discovery division so that we can get all those old reports on her desk. I will go tidy up my office. Many hours later.... Secretaries by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Long: "Odus." Odus: "Danielle! Oh, you're back! thank gods! I've been so overburdened by work! I had to hire ten new secretaries to help me, and of course, I used your automated Dr. Holo-Long AI for morale and to lighten the load, but... wow... it's not easy, what you do." Dr. Long: "No. It's not easy, but someone has to make sure the spaceships run on time. Now... ten new secretaries did you say? You'll have to fire them... Well... Fire 9 of them. A transitional second secretary could be useful." Odus: "O-oh. Ok. I... I guess I could do that." Dr. Long: "Good. I take it relevant discovery files and status updates have been forwarded to my office?" Odus: "Your secondary office... The Primary office is still under... renovations." Dr. Long: "I see. Excellent. It's good to be back. I'll speak with you later, more, after I get caught up. Thank you for taking care of things while I was away." Odus: "You're... you're welcome." ............ Later, In a pathology lab on Onix: Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Krasnoyarsk: "The Date is Junalli 6, 3816. This is Dr. Perry Krasnoyarsk, conducting dissection of suspected disease Vector of the Oni-Ren plague, "Black Eye." "The Foveanus torpeonus, or Xerillian Ant-scorpion, has been cited as a non-native species on Onix, likely carried here by one of Octan's Biomass harvesting vessels transferred from Xerillian. The ant-scorpion is known to overpower and outcompete local omnivores and scavengers, as they lack native predators, are well protected with an array of natural defenses, such as a numbing sting a viscous bite, and tough, heat resistant hide. Their presence has been determined to correlate with outbreaks of the native Oni-Ren illness "Black Eye." The "Black Eye" illness is caused by a virus native to the southern regions of this planet, but which has lately spread to the largest organized group of Oni-Ren, who dwell on the North Pole's Rocky Plains region. The objective of my research today is to dissect the Foveanus torponus to observe on a macroscopic scale what, if any, physical indications of Black Eye may be present, or if the xenoarthropod is carrying a parasite that may instead be the disease vector." Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr "Specimen sample acquired. I will start with the dorsal carapace of the Foveanus torponus. I have selected a sample of back tissue, and will now observe under the microscope." Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr "Hmm.... There are several lumps present... bite-marks... it appears..." Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr "Fascinating.... I may have just discovered our culprit." Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr "There is a parasite on the back of the Ant-scorpion. This appears to be a Yetornius lava-mite... known vectors of several diseases on their homeworlds, although, fortunately harmless to humans, as they refuse to colonize our soft skin, as they find it unsuitable. A hard skinned being such as an Oni-Ren may be a suitable host... Hmm... This requires further investigation. I'll need to show this to my superior, Dr. Martenz." Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr "Dr. Martenz; I've found something." Dr. Martenz: "Excellent. What have you found?" Dr. Krasnoyarsk: "The Foveanus torponus specimen is infested by Acarus morbus, from Yetornius; a well-documented disease vector." Dr. Martenz: "Great work. Send me a selection of cells sample from the mite. I'll look it over downstairs." Much Later, after cell culturing, and a lot of leg work: Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Martenz: "Hmm... Yes... Mmmhmm. Ooh. Fascinating. Yes, I believe we've found the virus. Running report... and done. Turn off the electron microscope, Ba'al-Ba'al. Oni-Ren: "Yessa." Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Matrenz: "I hear Dr. Long has returned to the Axle... Time to report our findings to her, I think." Later.... Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Martenz: "Yes, the office of Dr. Long, please." Meanwhile, aboard the Axle, in orbit Farmolis... Dr. Long: "Yes, Odus, put him on. I'll take the call here." Living on the backs of Others by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Martenz: "Dr. Long?" Dr. Long: "Speaking." Dr. Martenz: "I believe we've discovered the disease vector. Of Black-Eye. It's a mite that's infested the invasive species, Xerillian ant-scorpion." Dr. Long: "Good work. And how goes progress on the vaccine?" Dr. Martenz: "Vaccines don't happen overnight. This isn't some sci-fi space Opera, Dr. Long. It takes at least a month to develop a vaccine." Dr. Long: "I want it yesterday. This is a very important bargaining chip in our ongoing negotiations with the Oni-Ren. And what of the monarch? Is she still unwilling to hear our requests for cooperation regarding mining rights? I see you have an Oni-Ren in there with you. Has progress been made?" Dr. Martenz: "No. This is Ba'al-Ba'al Jinks; a political dissident, banished from the Oni-Ren Queen's domain who has since sworn loyalty to Octan. I literally ran into her in the fire swamps. She's been functioning as a lab assistant, cultural informant, and translator. " Ba'al-Ba'al Jinks: "Messa Ba'al Ba'al Jinks! Messa your humble servant!" Dr. Long: "Why do I sense we've picked up another pathetic lifeform?" Dr. Martenz: "What?" Dr. Long: "Nothing. Good work. Tell me when you have the vaccine, or if the Queen changes her mind about allowing us access to the copper fields... I mean... Their hunting grounds... Dr. Long out." Dr. Martenz: "Wait! I forgot to ask for more people to help me in my work!" ________________ Slow and full of exposition, but there we have it. Episode 1 of "The Invasive Species" ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Bob, can we have Professor Thaum added to the Octan private chat? ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Thanks! Yeah, obviously that's how it started! I call it the White Bat, since it's built entirely upsidedown! I liked the shape it creates. Yep, and it's good to be back! Yeah, not sure how else to photograph the thing taking off... fortunately, our cups look a bit like they could be thrust from the ship! Haha, thanks! I hoped it wouldn't be too distracting. Thank you, the Judges! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

A normal member cannot edit the title, only a mod can (or, possibly Big Sal or Epsiloneta)... and it looks like they took notice! And yep, looks like you just need 2 more posts before you can PM, and gain access to all that Octan has to offer you! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Oh wow! This is very large! And quite awesome, as well! Great work all around! I love how smooth it all is (everything is tiled) and not only is it all smooth, but it's also well styled! I love the pathway and the butress-seque pathway, and the pathway lined with flowers! Very civilized, and very much in keeping with my own thoughts as to what Farmolis should look like! That party is hopping! And don't think that scorpion slipped my notice! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Is that the rookie from last week? Nice build. Very good quiet scene. It really looks like night (but we'll photographed) and the layout of the hospital looks right, so good job! The story is interesting. Can't wait to see who the Assassin is working for. He's certainly not one of Ours! Octan doesn't hire assassins that miss their mark . ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Really nice build. Intrigued by the story developments! Can't wait to see what happens next! If I were to critique anything, it'd be the rock pieces used as rocks. They don't work super well with the studded terrain. If the terrain was more tiled, they'd fit better. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Really nice colour combos here! Good job! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Nice build! Curious how the wall is built in that cylindrical shape. Can't wait to see with you've got waiting for the Alien. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Awesome! Looks like you had quite the time in Japan! Very envious! (Although, who am I to be jealous, since I'm on vacation in Belarus right now!) The Build today is very nice. I love the headlight piece square technique, and you used it well here. The Ocean colours on the floor look nice too. good job! ~Insectoid Aristocrat
