I know but I don't want every enemy to have that special as it defeats the purpose of investing in a really good shield. It's really become an interesting challenge because not only are there two members with high shield levels in my quest, but also a player with the assassinate ability. Out of curiosity how many QM's have their battles set from the very beginning stats wise and don't change them at all during the quest? Also while we're on the topic of SP has anyone really considered what will happen further on down the line as far as hit points are concerned? Sure at the low levels there's a considerable difference between a knight per say and a mage but once you hit level 30, I don't think a 5 HP difference is going to make much of an effect. Oh and Flipz, I'd say potion.

"Well I tried a shot at trackin' down Wren, now that I'm a hunter, but to no avail, it was like trackin' a falcon on a clouded sky. Got back and had a little archery tournament with Bartholomew Docken the one-eyed warden in the arena, set off to try my hand at trackin' Wren again but had to turn back due to some unsavory visitors at the gate. Finally, I just acquired this here new crossbow from the Paladin Cronk." Skrall removed the crossbow from his back and set it upon the table. "Isn't she a beaut' 10x stronger then my pea shooter I had before, but she does have a nasty habit of knockin' people out of reach after a shot."
-
Skrall glanced up, he must have been dozing when Cronk stepped out. He noted Dyric's presence near by and motioned him to take a seat next to him. "Evenin' Rone, how have ya been as of late? Signed up for any new classes have ya?"

Heroica RPG - Quest #28: The Breakthrough
Waterbrick Down replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
Sorry I missed that post. Docken inches forward spear in hand, with a mighty thrust he pierces the side of the tank. Corrosive vapors escape from the vessel destroying the spear but the heroes note that the lightning bursts have lessened and the fire has slightly died down. Unfortunately the flames continue to rage and the heroes realize they will need to physically draw near to dismantle the machine from up close to end the carnage. Does the Party wish to do anything else before attempting to dismantle the contraption? -

The heroes perceive that if something is not done quickly that the machine will soon be unsavable, whether due to the flames or the risk of explosion. -
This is great Flipz. Plenty to chew on, and it gives me ideas for how to best handle some of my current PC's in my quest. Now I can't wait for the advanced classes.

"Those flames are so hot that the valves have probably been welded in place by now. Not to mention you'd roast alive if you got that close. The tanks are filled with alchemical battery fluid, it's inflammable but highly corrosive so take care where you're aiming that thing." -

The guard looks somewhat surprised at the request but hands over the spear to Docken. "It's all yours just let me out of here." With that the guard exits with the rest of the crowd leaving the heroes alone with the gnome and the raging inferno. "The machine is powered by those two tanks next to the fly wheel, if you can get them open before the pressure inside builds too high, we may have a chance at stopping an explosion and an even bigger problem. You'll have to get in pretty close though, I don't suppose one of you has a spear or a pole arm?" The Party realizes that they will have to approach the machine head on to have any hopes of dismantling it. -
Skrall accepted the crossbow from Cronk admiring its sturdy craftsmanship, whomever had been its previous owner obviously possessed more strength than the average man, half-giant perhaps. "Thank you Cronk, I'll make sure I put it to good use and pay ya back from my next quest. You'll have to meet my little Irksall one of these days, yer just the type of chap she's always fantasized about. My little princess trapped in an ogre's life." Skrall sighed to himself. "So have ya taken the opportunity to sign up fer one of the quests travelin' to Dastan?"

Heroica RPG - Quest #28: The Breakthrough

"Not really! It was working before lunch, I transmogrified a whole topaz into a gold and silver ore. Something must be done soon or the entire place is going to go up in flames! Where's the rest of your party, is that the Norseman Haldor back there? My..." Szalinski is interupted as a jet of flames roars forth from one of the bellows nearly missing the gnome inventor. -
~This topic is meant only for the players who have been chosen to participate in this Quest. If you wish to join the game, head over to the Rules and Discussion topic to learn how to do so.~ The Town Watch gaurd led the group of Heroes through the winding streets of Eubric Freeport to the Common House. Included in the group were: Bartholomew Docken, Level 20.33 Warden (Brick Doctor) *Party Leader* *Scary* Power: 29 Health: 39/39 Defense: 15 Gold: 18 (50 Gold loaned to Arthur Justus Regulus VII [Flipz]) Inventory: Briar Bow (WP: 9; Wood Elemental), Mockthril Longbow (WP: 5), Mythril Shield (SP: 15), Dread Hat (enemies lower than half of wearer's Level won't attack directly), Bedroll, Mead, Venom, Smoke Bomb, Potions (5) Haldor Skovgaard, Level 16.5 Shaman (Scorpiox) Power: 29, Health: 33/33 Ether: 24/24 Gold: 126 Inventory: Heavy Metal Rod (WP:12), Lesser Ethereal Cloak (SP:+1, +3 Ether), Paper Doll (Hexed immunity) Spike Coller (+1 power), Diamond of Thoric (Light Elemental), Frying Pan (WP:1+1 health), Shovel, Pickaxe, Potion (x2), Remedy, Tonic, Mead, Venom, Phoenix Essence, and a fur-lined Bedroll, Scroll of Blindness Jess Islanti, Level 16 1/2 Assassin (Sisco) Power: 26 (+2) Health: 27/27(+1) Gold: 238 Inventory: Blohdhurm (WP: 9)(Fire elemental), Mercutio's Dagger of Mugging (WP:5, Mug Ability +5), 2 Venoms, Mead, Smelling Salts, 2 Remedies Lord Lawrence Boomingham, Level 15.5 Paladin (Zepher) Power: 27 (+3) Health: 29/29 (-6) Ether: 16/16 Gold: 5 Inventory: King of the Desert (Longsword) (WP: 9, Fire Darkness), Frozen Saber (WP: 9, stunned effect, Light) Shaduex Shield (SP: 5), Thorny Diadem (+3 to power, but -6 to maximum health) 3 Potions, 1 Grand Potion, Bedroll, 5 Bones, 2 Holy bombs, 2 Meads, 1 Nostrum, 1 Phoenix essence, Pick-axe, 1 Jo-no Tree seed En Sabah Nur, Level 15½ Sorcerer (Jebediahs) *Lucky* Power: 27 Health: 24/24 (23+1) Ether: 20/20 Gold: 22 Equipped: Inventory: Stealth Dagger (WP: 12), Helmet (+1 HP), Loaded Die (Lucky effect),Garnet Gem (Earth), Aquamarine (Water), En, Sabah, Nur (Shurikens 3/3, WP: 5), 4 Potions, Grand Tonic, 3 Phoenix Essence, 2 Smelling Salts, Remedy, Smoke Bomb, Bedroll, Scroll of Sealing, Scroll of Blindness, Scroll of Confusion, Sangriste Dagger (WP: 5) As the party entered they were greeted with some excitement, but most of the eyes of the crowd were fixed upon the front of the room where the gnomish inventor Moranis Szalinski stood lecturing the masses about his latest invention. "So you see, it is quite remarkable! This breakthrough will change the world as we know it! Observe." With that, the gnome placed a potion into one end of the remarkable machine he was opperating. Moments later after an astounding array of flashes, bells, creaks, and groans, a full bottle of tonic, materialized on the opposite side of the contraption. "See, what did I tell you? Imagine, the possibilities with one of these machines in each and every home, magic could at long last belong to the common man, no longer will these triffling social barriers that seperate the arcane from the mundane. No we shall now all prosper with the ease of having magic at our finger tips. Now for an even greater challenge!" The gnome lifted high a sparkling saphire. He walked over to the machine inserting the gem in its repository. As Szalinski started the machine up there was a loud bang and a crash! A fire amidst the turning gears and wheels as lightning crackled between the two repositories. The gathered crowd scattered left and right as members of the Town Watch attempted to get everyone to safety. What shall the Party do? QM Note: Please ensure that all your stats are correct. Thank you.

Skrall was impressed, at the respect in the mage's voice, "Certainly not like one of those racist snobbish mages on the caravan trails." He pulled out his ram horn pipe lighting it while he leaned up against one of the hall's supports which creaked under his weight. "Cronk and I just me actually young lad, though I'm sure he's got quite a few interestin' stories of his own. Let's see, well about 6 months back, myself, Haldor that shirtless norseman over there, and the dark earth mage En Sabeh Nur were hired by the Town Watch to track down Donny Dozenhands, the notorious wolf gang pick pocket. We caught up with old Donny down in the sewers beneath Eubric, not the most friendly part of Eubric believe ya me. Well, Dozenhands ended up gettin' away and we got our tails chewed up by the Town Watch, who stink just as much as those sewers if ya ask me. After that, I led a party in clearin' out some of the Hinckwell's private woods, nothin' to out of the ordinary. More recently I just got back from Ennon where me and my party were helpin' a local group of rebels. Turns out we had had the wool pulled over our eyes by a soddin' witch Wren and had been helpin' the wrong side the entire time. We saw through the charade soon enough, but by the time we had straightened everythin' up, Wren was gone. I came back and took some huntin' trainin' but so far I ain't been able to find hide nor hair of that witch. I was about to set out again today, except fer some unexpected visitors." Skrall took a few puffs on his pipe before ordering a tankard of ale and continuing. "So yer new to the Eubric area, what do ya think of it? I take it ya just returned from a quest?" Skrall couldn't help but smile, "Well Cronk, yer cause sounds indeed very noble. I know many an orc that would have said that justice whether for or by our people was a joke, includin' members of my own family. I don't know where I'm headin' yet, I only know I've got mouths to feed back home, and equipment to keep in workin' order here. If that includes doin' a good deed here or there so be it, but I'll leave the real heroing work to noble chaps like yerself." Skrall glanced at the Heavy Crossbow that Cronk had offered. "I've been thinkin' to myself ever since I've gotten my current weapon that I should be lookin' for something sturdier. Anwyl upgraded mine to make sure I didn't break it, but the cross bars squeal every time I load it and it's more of a pea shooter than anything, though it does come in handy against beasts and the like." Skrall examined the Heavy Crossbow, "I can offer ya 100 gold, but it would have to wait till my next employment as my purse is runnin' a little tight as of late."

I would say two tonics and a shovel. Statistically speaking, there is generally someone in a party with a pickaxe and sometimes the magnifying glass. These two items generally benefit the entire party and thus it's repetitive if multiple party members have the same item. Shovels on the other hand, have the capacity for benefiting the individual owner, assuming they're not sharing their finds with the rest of the party, who will then invest in shovels of their own. In conclusion, to be a party member everyone will love, try and get the Magnifying glass and the Pickaxe. If gold, glory, and XP is more your taste, go for the shovel and tonics. Now when will that class analysis be up?

Skrall extended his hand, "Skrall, ex-highwayogre now Hunter. A Paladin eh? Ya mean the whole Ennoc the righteous light and stuff?" Skrall turned observing a somewhat flamboyantly dressed individual who introduced himself as a mage. Skrall inwardly groaned, it was chaps like these whom had put him out of business. "Perhaps he ain't all bad," Skrall thought to himself. "After all, I guess if I'm not yer stereotypical ogre, he ain't got to be yer stereotypical mage." Skrall gave a slight chuckle as he addressed Arthur, "Hero? Sure if ya want to call me that, I won't object. Truth is, it's better payin' employment then my previous job. Skrall's the name. I hail from the southern part of Ennon, hired bow by trade now turned "Hero". Ya say the yer the seventh, did yer predecessors grace this Hall as well?"
-
Skrall walked back into the hall, he had had to forgo his hunting of Wren due to two unsavory individuals at the gate, whom frequented his residence every time he returned from a quest. Unfortunately Skrall's last quest had left him with little to send back home for child support, so Skrall decided to wait about the hall while the coast cleared. As he entered the hall he noted an interesting request for 3 groups of parties all heading for Dastan, spying the highest paying notice he signed his name under Quest #31: Lions and Lambs and went to have a seat at one of the tables. The place was quite packed with the arrival of returning heroes. Skrall took a seat next to an armored orc carrying a crossbow. "Good day to ya friend, I don't think we've met yet. Are ya one of those Wardens I keep hearin' about, with that crossbow strapped to ya?"
-
Hey CorneliusMurdock, would it be possible for Skrall to obtain that Heavy Crossbow of yours? I haven't figured out how to roleplay the transaction quite yet, but I'd be willing to either buy it after my next quest or trade my WP:10 Hunter's Crossbow for it. I've been looking for a weapon like that for a while as it realistically represents the power behind an Ogre's shot.
-
Scuba and Doc, you both hosted awesome quests. Scuba, I wished that you had fully resolved your plot, or did I miss something? Other than that I really liked how you achieved the feel of Eubric in your Moc's and the choices you gave your party. Doc, while the length between battles was a little long, I really enjoyed how you allowed the players to use their ingenuity to influence the game. Good job to the both of you
-
Well I wasn't going to split any of the couples up, so it was either Jess and Haldor or Althior and Alexis. I figure you two had had enough of a roleplay session in the hall and I'd give Althior and Alexis a chance to catch up before being whisked away again.
-
A member of the Town watch ran into Heroica Hall slightly out of breath. "Ahem, I'm here to fetch a Lord Lawrence Boomingham (Zepher), a Mr. En Sabah Nur (Jebediahs), Mr. Haldor Skovgaard (Scorpiox), Ms. Jess Islanti (Sisco), and a Mr. Bartholomew Docken (Brick Doctor). Do you realise the scientific extravaganza started almost 45 minutes ago, fetch whatever you should need as far as supplies and let's be on our way!" OoC: The Quest 28 topic should be up in 24 hours, please ensure that you have made any final purchases by that date.
-
Flipz, you mentioned you had put together a basic class analysis, were you still thinking of posting that?
-
Remember that they will each get an artifact from the Dragur, but as far as the stuff like gold, potions, and other consumables no comment.
-
It's been done before, but usually the real thing is preferred. If you have a list of the pieces and want to share, there are quite a few people on here with extensive collections and a decent camera that would be willing to make the figure up for you.
-
Glad to see you finally got it up. Sorrow is one of the two undead heroes presently in the hall and since Sir Maximus isn't around much anymore I really was looking forward to Sorrow's development. As to your question roleplaying wise you can do whatever you want, but mechanics wise Sorrow is treated like any other normal player even though he is technically "undead" consequently normal i.e. nonelamental attacks still hurt you and healing still heals you. Edit: I don't think anyone has brought this up yet, but I don't think poisons stack, maybe venom and deadly venom, but probably not the two deadly venoms, so the dragon probably suffers only 10 damage each turn instead of 21.
