Heroica RPG - Quest #54: Taking Out the Laundry
Waterbrick Down replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I found Spad the other day just outside the Heap, his head spattered all over the cobblestones by a stone. I buried him right over there. We were simple folk, my brother and I, living off the small jobs we could find. Spad was really making it good collecting scrap metal from the Heap for some guy down at the harbor and doing small odds and ends for him on the side, taking his cloak to be cleaned, delivering letters, you know. And now I expect you're here to finish me off as well, I ain't going to go down easy though I can tell you that. Spad's employer was the only one he associated with, so he's the only one who could have wanted to knock him off. Now are we going to get this over with or what." The grumpkin held up his hands in a martial manner. -

Skrall handed 24 Gold to Haldor, Dyric, Arthur, and Alexis pocketing the rest for himself. He tossed a fire bomb over to Haldor before stowing the other in his satchel. He cringed at Arthur's violence, not even henchmen of Wren deserved that treatment. "Arthur... let me know if ya find anything. Perhaps we should make our way over to the other group?" -

"You've come to smash my head in just like they did to Spad. You even have the cloak that Spad was always taking to be cleaned for his boss. What, did you bring it here to smother me in?" -

Skrall reloaded and repeated his action, he attempted to keep Dyric from using his Pheonix Essence but it was already too late and the precious liquid had been used. "Phil, take care of that last guard from the front if ya would. Poletad, go ahead and heal the emperor up from the back." Battle Order: Arthur Dyric Skrall Alexis Alexis Haldor Phil Poletad -
A small note was found near the gathering throng.

QM Note: Updates will be a bit sparse as I have to finish up one of the last MOC's for the quest to continue. Also, Volcanic, are you still with us? The Party easily navigates the Heap and approaches the commune cautiously. Scraps of metal, piles of stinking clothes, and half-rotting refuse was littered everywhere. As they approach one of the small huts they are greeted by a small orange figure. "So you have come to finally put an end to it have you? Well I'll have you know that I won't go willingly." -

OoC: Ah, I see Dragon Warrior's burn all enemies but do not damage all enemies. My mistake. His bolt had struck true, but the fire on Skrall's skin still spread. With one hand the ogre swept the stinging tears from his vision as he sighted Bombster A again from the back "Phil, yer with me this time from the front. Dyric go fer that second Bombster after Arthur's cleared him with a spell or two. Gnash. Sod, he's out cold!" <Poletad, when you have a moment, I could use some healing,> Skrall shouted behind to the frog. OoC: I believe Chimera Guard B should be dead, as Arthur did 63 damage and Phil did 20 which means we would have killed it and Haldor would have been spared the free hit. Also, does Dyric's Lucky die apply towards his assassinations? Skrall grunted as the pain tore into his skin, he did his best to ignore it as he loaded up another bolt and shot at Bombster A from the back row. "I'll cover the first one Phil, you take the second from the front. Gnash deal with Chimera Guard C from the back row." <A mighty good job with that beastie Poletad. Now quickly see to Phil's wounds from the back row.> Battle Order: Arthur Haldor Dyric Skrall Shalma Shalma Alexis Alexis Gnash Poletad Phil -

"Oh Teresa dear, don't you mean the Grumpkins?" "Ah yes, Grumpkins that was it. I'm sorry, you see so many folks that are down on their luck in the Hovels and you lose track of who's who. Anyways it won't be any trouble at all. Patricia's Cauldron of Plenty is just about used up for the day anyways. Now please follow me." The heroes follow the elf as she leads them through the dirty streets towards a gigantic rubbish heap. Far on the other side a few ramshackle houses can be seen. "You'll find the commune on the other side of the Heap, they tend to stick to themselves and are relatively new to interacting with others outside their own species. Now when you're making your way across the heap make sure you don't put too much of your weight too often on one section of the pile otherwise it's likely to cave in or avalanche and fall on top of your heads. Just skip from pile to pile and you won't have any trouble. You shouldn't have any problems with the little vegetables and I do have a pressing matter at hand si if you'll excuse me, I'm afraid I need to attend to some business at the Embassy. Remember a smile goes a long way. Oh and whatever you do, don't bring up bi..." The last of the elf's sentence could not be heard and thus the heroes were left alone with the pile of trash before them. How shall the Party proceed? QM Note: The Party is currently standing at the entrance to the heap in the lower right hand (South East) corner, designated by the dark brown 2x1 plate. You will need to exit the maze at the top right corner designated by a second dark brown 2x1 plate. You move by using the 4 cardinal directions North, South, East, and West. As Teresa indicated you can only put so much weight on a specific pile (stud) thus your moves will have to alternate from light grey to dark grey. For example your first 3 moves will be like this: WWW, alternating from dark grey, to light grey, and back to dark. Post the solution once you have it. Please let me know if you have any questions. -

"Well, it wouldn't be a house-elf, even the poorest of their kind keep themselves emaculately clean. Possibly a Dwarf but there aren't many of them in the Hovels. Leperchaun's rarely wear anything that isn't green so dead end there. You may want to try the Grumpling commune on the north east side by the Heap. They moved in about a year ago, though they tend to keep to themselves. I can take you there if you would like." -

"I am sorry to hear that, but you have your business that you must attend to and I'm sure it must be of a most honorable venture. I take it you are heroes from Heroica so I won't bother you with my petty misfortunes, it was only a few old tomes, no great treausures lost. Tell me what does the owner of your cloak look like? Perhaps either Teresa or myself could point you in the right direction, we see a good bit of folks during our time here." -

OoC: Did I miss the Dragon Knight Class or did you update your earlier post Zepher? "Haldor, those things are going to eat ya alive from that close, get back here." Skrall fired off a shot at Bomber A from the back row before turning to the rest of the party. "Arthur's right, those things are movin' way too fast right now. Keep yer distance an' we'll hit 'em back next time round. Gnash, deal with that machine model F. Phil go for E, Poletad D and make sure ya stick to the back." -

QM Note: Alright let's get this show on the road. Volcanic, if you would like to purchase something please do so in retrospect in your next post. Swisshopper merely scowls at Ellaria. "They make enough to continue living and as long as they do not slow down the work they are left alone. You allow me to do my business miss and I'll allow you to accomplish yours. If this city does not want my goods then the markets will see to it and I will move onto something else. Tis the way of the entrepreneur. Now good day to you." The Party leaves the perturbed businessman and makes their way to the Hovels. Inside the newly constructed walls they are greeted by a pair of smiling face. "Here you are my good metasimian mam, you let me know if any of your chimps are ever hungry again." "So as I was saying Teresa, those scoundrels broke right into my home and made off with some of my most peculiar items." "You don't say, Patricia." "Please Mr. house elf, only one per person." "Indeed, they stole my set of plays by Wigglepike, my 1st edition of 50 Shades of Bley, and an old Tome of Affluence that came from my second cousin. I don't know what this city is coming to when you even have to worry about your library being robbed." "I wouldn't fret Patricia, something tells me that there is something even more foul that is besieging this city that neither you nor I are even aware of. Ah it looks like we have visitors. Have you come here to help the poor my good souls?" How shall the party respond? -

Skrall reached out with his mind toward the dragon even though he shivered at the near naked feeling that accompanied the experience, "It is good to see you as well Vipera. I take it that you shall be assisting in the relaying of communications back here at our headquarters?" -

"McColt, good to finally have a chance to chat. It's good to hear ya've had a chance to see a bit of the world fer once. I assume ya left Haddon in safe hands?" Skrall accepted the potion and gold that were passed to him as they walked. "Yes, after we left Haddon, it was only a little bit before I found myself with some of our other comrades in Dastan stoppin' Wren from spreadin' her chaos there. Dyric is right, it was one of the bloodiest ventures I've ever participated in, we lost a lot of good folk over there. Don't know if ya'd remember the dragon we found in yer neck of the woods, but we ran into her over there as well. Turns out she was originally from Dastan and all that. Well once we wrapped everything up there, I took a brief job headin' to Strivvi for the Town Watch to track down some missin' guards. Our cover was blown early though and we had to book it back to Eubric real quick. I guess it was around that time we saw the note sayin' Wren was on her way," Skrall shrugged. "As far as this grayness that everyone seem's to be talkin' 'bout, I'm not sure what to think. You and I are a lot alike McColt, we have our job and we do it. We view somethin' as black or white 'cause that's how we've always been told it and that's it. This high flutin' talk of wishy washy grayness has my head in a tizzy and it seems like a way people are usin' to justify their actions in some way or keep from bein' held accountable in others." Skrall sighed, "I don't see how Wren can be wrong and right at the same time as some people seem to be sayin'. But there's alot more learned individuals in our company that could expound on all the theories and philosophies. I gave up on such deep thinkin' years ago." -

Merry Christmas all! Flipz, I'm sorry to hear things are a little tense right now. Deal with what you have to we'll see you on the other side of the holidays. I've been curious as to why we have armor/artifacts that protect from elemental damage as opposed to protection from a certain type of monster? For instance the Aurora Helmet provides immunity to fire elemental damage, yet how often have we actually seen a monster that does fire elemental damage? Maybe once? Now from a PvP perspective this makes sense as weapons are imbued to do elemental damage, however I do not see their usefulness very far beyond that. Do we need to start seeing monsters that do passsive elemental damage or do we need to change from nulling elemental damage to nulling damage from a certain type of monster or am I just beating a dead progg? Thoughts?

As the chaos beast toppled over from Skrall's bolt he smiled grimly. It had been a while, but he was slowly marking the demons' chaotic battle style again as he observed the patterns in their twisting and turning, much more of a challenge compared to mechanical monsters that was sure. The ogre fired off another round at Chaos Beast C from the back row before turning to the Chaos Regulator, "Han's I'd suggest you'd keep at that healthy lookin' specimen, as yer most powerful strike would be best suited against its high constitution." -
It's only random if the MK decided not to use a spell that turn, so in this case Hoke's attack should have been light.

"I'm afraid we have a strict undead policy; no shoes, no shirt, no pulse, no service. The smell was something like a rubbish heap if you had to ask me, but I'm not in the habit of sticking my nose into a trash bucket very often."
