Heroica RPG - Quest #54: Taking Out the Laundry
Waterbrick Down replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Yes it will be added to your inventory as well as the Mead being deducted from Boomingham's. This will be reflected in the next battle stats. "I have no idea. Dozens of folks dropped their payments off at this offish this week, there had to be at least 10,000 Gold here!" -
He got a replacement. When you're dealing with a Quest idea thought up in 3 days you've got to work with what you've got. Besides the dice were against William in his attempt to steal it, maybe if he was rogue...

William's attempt at pilfering the sword earn him a quizzical look from the Harbor Master and he decides it probably wouldn't be too diplomatic to try taking the sword. "First you try taking my shword and now you're jush adding misery to my grief?" -

"Thank you." The harbor master takes a deep swig, "Oh, what does ish matter. I won't be any sort of harbor master soon. Jush look at the place. Piles of gold hours ago, now noshing but heaps of red dust." William silently opens the chest and finds an elixer inside. -

Gurnam returns the wink rolling up the parchment and bidding the trio farewell. The Party makes their way to the Dockmaster's Office. Entering, they find the floor littered with bottles and covered with red sand. "Oy?" -

"You'd have to talk to a witch or one of those Cobra Priests from the east to see about doing something like that. Working with regular poison fumes is bad enough when puttin' it into a blade, not even a sharkling's lungs can handle Deadly Poison." -

"Glad to see ya haven't changed much Sir Paladin. 'fraid I don't know too much about any shady dealings in that sort of stuff even in my circles. I know most of the lead on the market is being bought up like lightning, but ain't got a clue who's doing it. Yah might check with the Harbor Master, he might have a better idea of where stuff is going or being stored at lately in this neighborhood." With that the sharkling unfurls a small scrap of parchment. -
Strategically speaking it might not have been the best decision and Skrall wasn't very much in favor of it, but only time will tell.

"So we're either fire-fightin' or we can start shorin' up possible breaches before the floods come. How 'bout these other chaos users someone mentioned, are we any closer to securing their aid?" -

"Wait a minute, I know you and you two as well," the sharkling points with his filleting knife at both Boomingham and William. "I thought you had run out on yer debts until I got that nice bag of change from yer organization a few weeks back. And what brings you back to my fine establishment ranger? Last time we crossed paths I believe you were threatin' me with some bad business of sorts." The sharkling chuckles and chops up a few unidentifiable strips of scales and flesh before clearing the mess into a small bucket behind his stand. "So, metal merchants huh?" Well I ain't got any use for scrap in my line of work and I doubt many people here would have any for you either. Any interest in some of my fine services while yer here?" -
Perma Lucky items aren't necessarily the problem, it is the over abundance of them. They can be dealt with, but if you're including always having to include an enemy that has a jinxing special, it can get somewhat annoying. People with the items should consider that some QM's will be more reluctant to take them on, the same as characters with extremely high SP, as it does make balancing considerably more difficult, not impossible mind you, just difficult.

Ah Hlin, how I missed him. Good to see him again. By the way, Sandy, when can we expect to see this other expert class you mentioned earlier?

QM Note: Like I said, there are a variety of locations around the Harbor district, you just need to specify which you wish to visit. The Party makes its way to the Fish Market "Slightly used squid, previously owned perch, and second-hand sword fish fer sale! You won't find these deals anywhere else!" "Sea shells, pearls, abalone! Pick up a pretty trinket for your pretty back home!" "Freshly imported potions from Goblina.!Taste good and go for cheap!" "Banana brine shrimp, Coconut crabs, Mango moray eels. Fruit fish caught just this morning!" What will the Party do? -
Well I specifically wrote that Skrall spoke with his voice lowered, but apparently mages have hearing skills comparable to elves.

It sort of depends on how much your character knows, the Harbor district encompasses everything surrounding the harbor including many of the places featured in past quests, i.e. the fish market, the warehouses, the harbor master's office, Triad Park, even Balthazar Bluehood's old office. -

Skrall examined the bottle, he wasn't exactly sure of it's contents, but thought there may come a time for it at some point. "What do ya know, the old gent' isn't as much of a legend as I thought he was," the ogre muttered under his breath before stowing the bottle away. "Well, seems like we beat the other group back, so that's one down. Any word from either Mallelio or Triad?" -

OoC: So are the Grogmas items only good for this quest? "I don't know if Spad ever told his boss he had any living relatives and you're the first outside contact I've had since his incident so maybe whoever did it won't be coming after me after all. Like I said, Plud's employer is the only one he's had any real contact with outside the Hovels as he tended to stick to gardening here in the commune. Even so, he never really told me what he looked like or how many others were working for him, only that he was supposed to gather as much scrap metal as possible and deliver it to the Harbor district. We like to think of ourselves as semi-self sufficient, but even we need to have interactions with outsiders once in a while. If you could figure out who did this, it certainly would put some of the others fears to rest, most of them took to hiding in the huts when they saw you coming through the heap." "Oh you know, I keep payin' the child support, but I doubt I'll ever be seein' any of 'emn not that any of 'em would want to. I was actually supposed to be enjoyin' a trip south to Strivii right about now, but my Party's cover was blown and we ended up bookin' it out of there pretty quick. So I came back, did a bit of trainin' in the arena before joinin' up with the rest of ya for this final bout with Wren. How are things with you? I noted I hadn't seen Jess for a bit, surprised she isn't on this trip with us." -
Thanks Sandy, with this minimizing dust Skrall can kiss his claustrophobia goodbye.

Skrall placed the phoenix essence in his bag. He kept his voice lowered as Arthur continued to investigate the shrine, "We all have our problems, some are just more pronounced than others. As I have said in the past, what the young mage does is his business and as long as he does not interfere with the effectiveness of fulfilling our objectives I will not stand in his way. Now we best be getting back to the hovels as soon as he's done investigating." -

"How am I supposed to how murderers kill their targets? Perhaps they enjoy interrogating them for the fun of it." The Grumpkin crossed his hands in front of his chest. "Well if you're going to kill me, I guess there isn't much I could do about it anyways. The name's Plud, Spad and I joined the commune about a year ago when we heard a Grumpkin had left to join your organization. We weren't so lucky though. Most of our kind don't take to fighting and prefer less extravagant lines of work. We're used to a pretty unkempt environment so naturally the Hovels felt just like home to us. Now it all happened about 3 weeks ago, Spad comes home and says he's got a job working for some chap in the Harbor district collecting scrap metal and doing other odd jobs. He talked about taking a cloak into some tailor every once in a while to get it freshened up, but that was about all he ever told me besides how much scrap he had found in the Heap that day. We Grumpkins don't take much to long conversations even amongst ourselves. Well, this went on till a few days ago when I found Spad crumpled up just outside the Heap, his head all caved in and... and... and that was it, no more Spad." The Grumpkin's head sunk to his chest and a few sniffles could be heard from under his hood. -

"Yeh, Dyric here has seen his fair share of the canaries twitterin' around his head. If we're splittin' up the essences I would suggest both Haldor and myself carryin' one as we have the best armor of the group." -
Sorry Quest 54'ers, oddly enough I'm more free during the normal semester than I am during the holidays. You're about 1/2 way through anyways so don't worry too much. Oh, happy New Year too!
