  1. Well, this makes me wish I was a kid again. It ain't an award winner, but these mix-matched builds look like a lot of fun that just begs to be played with.
  2. Looks a lot better than my first train MOC's. Railroad picture archives has a lot of pictures of all the movie pieces (http://www.rrpicture...st.aspx?id=AWVR). Nearly every train in the movie was an actual locomotive leased from its owners and repainted for use in the film. Engine 777 from the film was actually Canadian Pacific #9777 and Canadian Pacific # 9782, after the film ended #9777 and #9782 both lasted for a while in the movie paint scheme before they were repainted back to classic CP red. For bonus movie info though, the whole film was based on an incident that happened to CSX #8888 which ran for the CSX railroad up until a little while back (it is currently being rebuilt in Boise Idaho and will probably not have the same number, and might even have some major design changes). Nearly everything in the film except for the most outlandish moments: is pulled directly from the CSX 8888 incident. (No surprise the movie locomotive is 777 then...)
  3. I like the look of the 4-6-4 but the tender looks a bit short for such a big engine, maybe it would look better a few studs longer?
  4. I recently did versions of Takua and Takanuva in CCBS pieces. I have posted both of them to my MOCpages account, come over and take a look! Takua: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/421075 Takanuva: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/421252 These MOCs are hardly works of art, but I enjoyed the build process. Comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome.
  5. I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I remember when Lego first started manufacturing bricks in China there was a lot of fan outrage. I recall petitions to try and get them to stop, and posts here and on Brickset about how to differentiate between a Chinese Fig and a Mexican/Danish Figure. Fast forward a few years later... I have bought a few collectible minifigures of late, and noticed a lot of improvements from my first "China Figs." The molds now used don't have the distinct mold marks which previously marked the difference between China Figs and Other Figs. While the plastic still doesn't have that "sheen" the Danish stuff does, the colors seem to be more improved and much closer to the rest of Lego's production. The amount of accessories we have got from these figs is outstanding too. The printing is sharp too. Is it time to give the China Figs a break? Do you feel there are still mistakes to be rectified, or do you feel Lego's China bricks are getting better?
  6. -"WHOOOAAAA" That is all I can say.
  7. Well not to mention, Lionel has been pieced back together and continues to make products (trust me, they weren't making O-Gauge Lionel SD70MAC's back in the 1950's ). Anybody also recall when Hostess Foods went bankrupt and we had to go a year without Twinkies? They eventually came back. So arguably Lego could die, property could go for sell, then in 5 years Lego re-enters the market under new ownership.
  8. Just saw some spam tonight in the "General Lego Discussion Forum." Typical spam set up, new member with goofy name, with a topic title that describes a subject not so Eurobricks friendly... I tried to report the member, but the computer wouldn't let me, I don't dare enter the thread to report the post either not knowing what is in there! From my observation most spam goes to the General Discussion Forum, sometime around night in the U.S. I don't recall ever seeing spam in the other forums such as Star Wars, Train Tech, or Action Figures: they seem to target the General Forum the most. EDIT: Just found some more spam popping up in the General Forum, a second on the subject of ummmm... "improving female figure"; and one on some money budgeting scheme. The spam bots really get to work hard at night. I reported the money one, hopefully the mods notice all the others.
  9. So true.
  10. Hmmm... If I was in an AFOL collection I would feel pretty safe without glue, if he changed me at least it would be some sort of logical custom fig bashing. But if I was in a KFOL collection I would consider glue to prevent my headpiece from becoming a permanent torso-less head...
  11. There is also the option of using "Kra-gle"...
  12. I have friends who stopped buying Lego sets, but still have their old ones on display. For them it just seems their interests changed as they aged, but they still hold to the "nostalgia" factor.
  13. That open cockpit door is freaking out my inner American airline safety concerns... I know its a plane in Denmark, but still! Lock the door please! ;) Anyway back to the Lego, looks like a fun mini set. I wish they sold real Lego models in other airports...
  14. Well... They referenced Bionicle in the Lego Movie and it was back on shelves a year later. They referenced Classic Space, and within a few months a blue triangular spaceship was again on store shelves. Anything is possible!
  15. Yikes... Why knockoff Lego when you can just knockoff AFOL's? What a mess.
  16. Looks good. Can the wings fold up for landing mode still?
  17. Could a plastic bin for storage be a solution?
  18. Yeah, reads like Google Translator... Anybody here know French, and can they translate from the original?
  19. Today I left my classes at the University and went towards the nearby graveyard. I was planning to use it as a quick route of escape, since my University is currently playing Humans V. Zombies and I didn't want any zombie to find me! As I traveled through the graveyard I found a very particular tombstone for a small child, encased entirely in LEGO bricks. I hardly expected to find a MOC in a graveyard, let alone one so close to my university, but yet there it was. The tombstone was covered in many different LEGO scenes, Star Wars, Indianna Jones, Ninjas, Castle, and several others. I found the family had built very personalized messages into the MOC such as a small scene depicting a LDS Temple with the words C.T.R. (Choose the Right) underneath. On the stone portion of the tombstone was a short poem, and the end a small phrase, "Built by Dad." I could tell by the size, and the uniform colors of the brick that this father must have placed many orders with "Pick A Brick" or "Bricklink" to build it like this. The weather has taken its toll a bit, but the tombstone is still very much intact. This has to be the saddest, most sentimental, and most thoughtful MOC I have ever seen. Since my phone battery was dead, I couldn't take any pictures. But here is a link to a short essay with a photo of the grave: http://mattcanova.blogspot.com/2013/11/legend-trip-0-0-1-159-907-utah-state.html Thoughts?
  20. Really well done MOD.
  21. Just post Work in Progress (WIP) photos, that is a way to get feedback from the community
  22. Hmm... I don't know. A lot of details are spot on with your model, yet a few others are quite different (such as the headlights). There are a few options here: 1. Outright plagiarism with small mods 2. He used your model as inspiration while he built his. 3. Very similar design by odd coincidence. 1 and 2 are the most likely.
  23. Check out Bricklink for various official wheels, or Big Ben Bricks for custom wheel sets
  24. Actually not that bad of an idea compared to some crazy G1-G2 theories I have read, I like that it has a cameo of an old character yet doesn't imply the Toa Okoto are the SAME Toa as before, or that G2 is a sub universe of G1.
