Do you ever have that moment...
xboxtravis7992 replied to 8-Bit Ramen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
First if your parents actually did give it away; find out by asking them. They should be honest, and if they realize how much the set meant to you they might move heaven and earth to get it back. However, since they probably know your love for Lego I doubt they would have given it away so quickly. Maybe then it has to have been mis-located in the house somewhere? I swear I have a vague memory of my B-Wing set vanished for awhile back during moves between houses until it resurfaced again in my new house; and then one of the minifigures went missing for a few years until I found it too. Good news if you need to buy the set again though; its only $44 dollars in the US on Bricklink: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=79103-1#T=S&O={} -
Thoughts on a possible Cloud City set?
xboxtravis7992 replied to Shattered's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This has been a fan favorite "pipe dream" set for years now and it is surprising it has not been released since the original came out so many years ago! I think the main highlights of a playset would need to include all of the Vader v. Luke duel locations, the Carbon Freezing chamber, the Ugnaut's junk yard, the dinning room, hallways, the prison room, and if possible a landing deck. Make it one solid model like the Death Star with a vague shape of Cloud City. Include figures of Luke, Leia, Han, if possible a way to have Chewbacca haul a broken C-3PO around, that silver protocol droid too, R2-D2, Lando in his blue clothes, Lobot, a few guards, Ugnauts, Vader, Boba Fett, and a few Stormtroopers. I think it would garner a lot of praise and sell well. -
I'm not a huge fan of Ghostbusters; but I was pleasantly surprised by your MOC! It's massive first of all! Second I love how you included some really random parts such as the Ben 10 figure on the roof, and Toa Jaller's light up sword. Those random bits really work well in this context.

No train horn or ditch lights! The horror!

Brick built letters look good. I think the cab needs to be a bit bigger though and dynamic brake blisters would help the model look more accurate.

Discovered a rather interesting fan film explaining the history of the Rebel Alliance between Episode III and Rogue One today. The new Canon makes a lot more sense than that garbled mess we got with The Force Unleashed...

Anyone notice the Lego Death Star set making a cameo in the trailer?
-
Actually the entrance is what I am working on right now in LDD; so I hope to upload that in a few days . The main throne and desk are taken from the Palpatine's Arrest set; but the advisor's chairs are custom's made to look like a smaller throne.

Spider-Man Homecoming teasers are starting to pop up online. Looks like we will get our first trailer soon.

Today I picked up the Darth Vader Marvel Comic Volume 1 book; and after giving it a quick read I was impressed at how the book combined elements of the Prequel films with the Original Trilogy. I was rather interested in how Palpatine had converted the Jedi Temple into the new canon's version of "The Imperial Palace." The design of the place in the comic suggested it retained its classic architecture we were familiar with from the prequels; lots of red carpet and tan and gray walls. But the few panels showing it in the comic made it clear Palpatine had twisted the Jedi Temple into something evil. I mean Palpatine was basically living in the building where his enemies had been murdered by Lord Vader! If that ain't evil, I don't know what is. The comic panels showed of Palpatine's office. It struck me as very similar to the official Lego set "Palpatine's Arrest" but there were a few changes in the design to signify Palpatine's status as "Emperor." The focus on the room was on the windows behind his throne. The only seats near the throne appeared to be reserved only for Palpatine's aides. A few benches surrounded the main room, but it seemed that if Palpatine wanted to talk say with a visiting Grand Moff or something; the visitor would have to address Palpatine standing in the middle of the room. These few changes made it seem as if all who entered the room were somehow forced to pay homage to the Emperor. Again, subtle; but very twisted. The thought that such an evil man could live in a posh environment was also intriguing. This was enough for me to decide to jump on LDD today and bang out a MOC based on the fallen Temple with its Sith Lord inhabitant. The MOC is simple right now, just an up-sized version of Palpatine's Arrest. But I do have some modular expansion ports which I hope to use LDD to add some other rooms; specifiicly a Torture chamber like seen in the comic, a grand door into Palpatine's office, a board room to sit visiting dignitaries, and a private bed room for the Sith Lord. I have hopes to buy the new/rehash Death Star to get updated Palpatine, Tarkin, and Vader figures; and I also hope to someday get Krennic's Shuttle and also The Phantom II set with Thrawn to provide ample Imperials to occupy this scene. I don't know if I'll be able to build this in real life anytime soon (I am on a college student's budget...); I hope to save this idea to someday become a reality. First up, an overview shot of the MOC. As I said this is highly influenced by Palpatine's Arrest; just with a larger area and less "play features" (although there are some play features in there as I'll show in just a bit.) The desk and throne especially are copied out of Palpatine's Arrest. The Jedi statues in the front corners though are intended to serve as reminders that this office isn't in the Senate Building, but is in fact located inside the former Jedi Temple. Other than the statues, all the minifigures to populate this scene are found in either the Final Duel set; or the current Death Star. The back view is more "Practical" than it is "Displayable." I mostly made this space just to house spots to hold Palpatine's and Vader's lightsabers and other accessories. My other play feature that I hid in the set is that underneath the statues are hidden crates used to hide Sith Artifacts such as Holocrons. Not overly complex, but I feel these simple functions far better suit a display MOC than they do a more "kid" oriented official Lego set. I hope to be able to update this MOC with some more segments later on, so I hope to you see you all soon with some more stuff!

Yes combined with the Hammerheads from Season 2 in Rogue One, it seems they are hinting that Phoenix Squad somewhere along the line became part of the main Rebellion. It is true it could be just any VCX-100; but alongside the Hammerheads makes me think there could be more to it. If it is though supposed to be a small Easter egg, I appreciate it. Seeing a VCX-100 on screen has made me feel the same way I really when I saw a screenshot showing the Starspeeder 1000 in Episode VII. I love seeing these more obscure ships get screen time! I also love how HUGE the VCX-100 looks in Live Action. It helps give me a new sense of scale for the Ghost in the cartoon. It definitely dwarfs the X-Wings in that shot.

I wonder what the Glomar Explorer would look like in that scale? The father in law of my aunt was deployed on the mission the Glomar took to recover that Soviet sub; and I think it would look good in your fleet.

I'd like to see how you connected the old Bionicle head to a frame as small as a Protector 's body.

What was the last movie you watched?
xboxtravis7992 replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
What you didn't like watching Rocky beat up Andre Kirilenko on 'roids? My parents pull that movie up whenever it is on TV and I think it is very goofy. I have never seen all of the original Rocky, or even the more recent Creed but I have heard those are far better films. -
Also if we are going to start our Narrow Gauge wish list I would love to see turnouts and switches made to... :)

Star Wars - Battle on Rhen Var (Battlefront)
xboxtravis7992 replied to markus1984's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Everything about this is very well done. The landscape captures the look of the planet very well and brings back a ton of nostalgia. The hanger bay is awesome, and the ship models are very well done. The only thing I wish it had was that blue cave from the Battlefront level; that always seemed like the place the most dramatic shoot outs and hold outs happened (at least that's how I saw it when I was a kid). -
-Best Set: This definitely belongs to either the Disney Castle, Brick Bank, GBHQ, Mine Bucket Loader, and the Technic Porsche. So many great sets this year, wish I could get them all! -Worst Set: Hard to say... I want to say I like them all, but I do feel like the Assualt on Hoth set isn't worth the price tag. I do think though the community bashed it a lot more than it actually deserved though, and after so much complaining about it I almost began to like the dang set... Still not buying it though. -Most Disappointing Reveal: I know that Assault on Hoth and the Death Star upset the community, but they are not my biggest disappointing reveals this year (in fact I actually want to buy the Death Star set!). In my opinion the biggest disappointment for me was the reveal of the Winter Holliday Train. I was hoping for a bigger set more akin to the classic Emerald Night, than the small set we got. It isn't a bad set; and I still want to buy it someday... but I think it failed to meet my expectations for what a "Creator Expert" train should be. -Favorite Minifigure: Marvel Superhero's and Star Wars churned out some awesome stuff this year in my opinion. I think my pick for a favorite will have to be the awesome new Death Troopers coming out with Rogue One. Can't wait to get my hands on some! Honorable mentions to the spectacular Disney CMF series, and the growing collection of Lego Dimensions figures. -Best Big-Fig: Technically it is a 2017 set, but seeing that it is already available for purchase I think the award goes to Maui from the Moana Disney line. A very well done figure, who makes me want to buy that set. -Worst News : I was having a lot of fun with the reboot of Bionicle reconnecting to my childhood; so it was sad to hear it was being cancelled again. -AFOL Community Worsts: Nexo-Bashing, people claiming Bionicle was cancelled because Lego is an "incompetent company", and the annoying debate about if Minidolls are true Lego which has been going on for years now... These were the things in the community this year which frustrated me the most. Dis-Honorable mention, the increasing amount of Spammer's on this site. -AFOL Community Bests: Awesome MOCs; ecstatic joy over the cool set reveals, cool YouTube videos, and just a generally fun time. It might seem like it is just "business as usual" but this is what makes being a part of the AFOL community such a pleasure.

Lego 4002016 - Limited Edition Employee Gift
xboxtravis7992 replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Oh gosh, I am super envious! That Monorail too (sure it is a static model and not on the original track, but it is the first official Lego monorail in years...) Dang. -
First, a response to your idea in the spoiler tab below. Second, I assume everyone saw that awesome new Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 trailer?
-
Yeah I just checked and it seems even the US 3-Foot gauge stuff (the big end of Narrow Gauge) had smaller wheels which probably would be best represented via small BB wheels.
-
This looks interesting! I've always wondered how well 3-Foot gauge American locomotives would look on Narrow Gauge Lego track; and advancements like this could be useful. I haven't built a Narrow Gauge train yet in real life, but my experiments on LDD have used wheels as big as the Emerald Night drivers, and ones as small as those little tiny ones. Hard to say if there really is a "standard" to it yet.
-
I just stumbled across this. I like it a lot! The detail is stunning.

I finally got to catch up with the latest Agents of SHIELD now that they are back from their brief November break. It was a bit of a confusing episode, but it was nice to see them tying in the events of Agents to the world of magic in Doctor Strange; a few highlights in the spoiler tab:
