Mmm, love those grey tyres. I like that the space technic has a little variety for the tyres now. I am wondering if some of the space technic will be a good gift for my friend (she worked as a physicist for the Pentagon!!!) she likes LEGO and Space but has not really ventured past the system sets. However, I think she would enjoy something replicating actual gear.

Considering that the "ages" have been taken off the boxes (With 4+ and 18+ being A Branding exception and not an age "restriction") for a while, I don't think it is a true reflection. Ninjago, Dreamzzz, Monkie Kid are all themes with the same target age demographic as Star Wars and Superheroes. More complex building techniques are used, with the 4+ sets giving access to the younger fans. City, Friends and Classic are pitched "all ages" or up to 8 with their more simplistic approach to design and accessibility. Creator (to an extent), Technic, Art and the more premium 18+ are for older LEGO fans, or something to attract a more mature audience with a product that is less "playset" and more Build to Display. Again, some of those sets are not complicated to build and are an effort to catch a market share of the adults with disposable income who want to build something instead of just own (Like Funko Pop or other vinyl figures that older teens and adults might pick up). Not sure what you refer to with "design language" as to me that sounds like the structure and build techniques of a set. Not to be mean, but most older sets are very simplistic in both design and build, so I am glad we are able to get more complicated designs and parts that allow much more variety in build style. Nostalgia tells me that Sphinx Secret Surprise was the best set ever (it is my favourite) but rebuilding it now... I made an upgrade to match my childhood vision instead of the 90s set, the simple build was nice but not exceptional and would not have survived in today's market. Though, it won't change the enjoyment I had when I was young or take away from that either, it just meant I have the parts and skills to make something bigger and better. A tribute set to an older theme is a nice treat, but no herald of a return to the past. It just means TLG knows that they can get some money off a bunch of 40-somthings with disposable income or a child in their life to use as an excuse to buy a toy.

That Asimov Quote is wholly accurate and true. Nothing will make anyone happy like when they were a child, though something might appeal to them. You say: I agree, it is very subjective. My spaceship wants were things that looked like those from Thunderbirds, the 80s Flash Gordon film (Somewhere there is a red torso with a faded sharpie lightning bolt), the ship ELO has on their album covers and the exhibition colour jets (Red Arrows, Blue Angels and the like). All these exciting colours available to build spaceships out of is great! I love that Marvel has made their space based stories so colourful too, with the real Chris Foss looks, so that the tie-in toys look good. Anywho, I don't know what will make anyone happy. Nothing makes everyone happy and I think the marketing guys at TLG will carry on aiming at kids.

Action and Adventure Themes Discussion
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
No. We just have more important work to do than keep a list of obscure themes maintained, especially if it is pretty much Obvious considering the other Exactly Alike past themes are listed. You know, like moderating posts where people are making it sound like Nazis are not that bad by comparing them to harmless fiction.- 226 replies

Advent-urers Christmas Coundown!

I think it is somewhere on the browser version of Instagram. It's been a while since I tried. -
I think you really need to work on tone, maybe read up on a little history. Pillaging and raiding/set up in "opposition" to a faction with a more "good" look... is a lot different to the systematic extermination of specific groups based on ethnicity, religion, disability or politics. (NGL, they would want me dead for a number of reasons, and my whole family) As someone based in Finland, I would have thought it would be well documented for you to learn.

I always found the old hinge parts (for canopies and the like) to be scary fragile at times, either bending or snapping, these days they have little clutch and won't stay in place. It is sad, as they look a lot smoother than the "click" hinges that replaced them.

Nostalgia for the most part, I would say People ignore design flaws or even flat out boring/janky work because it was the cool stuff when they were a kid. I do enjoy the simplistic designs, don't get me wrong, but some sets today are much more fun than the past. As for part oddities? I think I have only ever had a wrong colour plate. Obi Wan's hut I believe. I got a 1x 3 black plate, not a 1x3 tan plate as needed (or something close, it had to be tan though, not the black I had). No big deal to me though, I got the set on discount as a parts pack and was only building it to examine the techniques.

I recall only calling my Adventurer figure Sam Grant as the Scorpion Tracker sold as Sam Grant's Scorpion. It wasn't until visits to LEGOLAND Windsor and the stunt show/Explorer's Institute that I heard Johnny Thunder, but I think we had Pippin Reed not Gale Storm? I don't know about too much of the tie-in media otherwise. As a kid I called my other characters Lara (for Lara Croft) and Dr Carter (I was and still am a huge Egyptology nerd), Evil Eyes (Come on, I'm not wrong) and The Baron as his set I had was the Bi-Wing Baron and I was aware of the Red Baron being a pilot. One funny thing. I work with a guy called Joe Freeman, I might have to track something down to give him a chuckle.

Action and Adventure Themes Discussion
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I have no access to the forum structure, that is an Admin job. Adding a big old list of themes that have come about since the last update (I think around the introduction of Elves) just is not top priority. Then, I also end up spending more time doing site staff stuff (Like moderation) instead of making a big overhaul of my old Key Thread, of planning and launching/running contests for users to enjoy. Some themes are more implicit, you can deduce that Ultra Agents would be here, as Agents and Alpha Team are listed. However, I have listed it in my key thread, so it is not entirely hidden from the included themes.- 226 replies

Can I just say, that as a big fan of UFO, I feel like we have been neglected. The big boss alien had such a cool design.. Why can't we get an updated re-issue? That helmet was one of my favourite parts of my limited childhood collection. I recall playing a game where the character was a fusion of my (limited) understanding of Predator and Darth Vader (per the unmeddled with Original Trilogy) and a little Ming The Merciless from 80s Flash Gordon.

I am going to go with the fact you are either quite young, or the language and culture barrier is causing a communication issue here on the forum. While Opinions are welcome to be shared, maybe work on communicating it in a pleasant manner. As you may have noticed, there are several "counterpart" figures over the decade plus of CMF. This is another long awaited counterpart for the now long past Space Hero. This book is from 1953, not exactly a "Woke" era was it?

I Need to Delete My Account
Peppermint_M replied to Microdragons's topic in Forum Information and Help
That relates to delisting a person so that their name does not appear in search engines, not to deleting an account on a privately run forum. As your personal details are secured, we do not have any GDPR issues (I would know, my job requires stringent protocols). The account name can be changed to something generic, you can remove your e-mail address from the account, we can even add you to the banned accounts group if you so wish. It does make me curious though - what could you possibly have done to want your account removed so thoroughly? -
Does your Lego ever get damaged by pest?
Peppermint_M replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Urgh. I think we were also saved by the fact that my mother had stored a box of pots of unopened/factory sealed Sugar decorations (Sugar strands, sprinkles, etc. Very long life when unopened so she felt safe to keep them out of the way for a while) and the critter found them, chewed through the plastic and had the sugar-packed feast of its life! -

Does your Lego ever get damaged by pest?
Peppermint_M replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
We got a rat in the house once our neighbour was in hospital and an unsecured/broken back window let it get in and thru a wall cavity into our attic. Shredded a plastic storage bag, but left the Lego alone... -

Action and Adventure Themes Discussion
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Hi I am the curator of this forum. I was asked to take on staff duties when a zany new theme was coming, one that didn't fit the forum structure. Ninjago was not historical, it was not SciFi but it also wasn't close enough to real world. After a lot of staff discussion, Action Themes was the title decided for the new sub forum. It also meant that lots of older themes that did not quite fit the other sub forums could have a suitable home. Here is a handy guide. Maybe I will update it someday. Eurobricks invented the category, it's not official, it had no endorsement from anywhere else. I have explained and presented this sub forum to other fan groups and TLG staff alike. Quite successfully actually When Elves was launched and was rejected by Historic Themes , we added Adventure to the forum name. Truly, Action and Adventure themes are the embodiment of the LEGO creative spirit. Dreamzzz is the latest creative story for fans to enjoy. So nah, things are looking pretty great.- 226 replies

The Eurobricks team has had some thought on the rank and decided now is the time to retire it. It is a relic of a time when AFFOL participation was almost unheard of and LEGO fandom was more of a "boy's club". Today, with very well known AFFOLs, a decade of success for the minidoll and a theme TLG stated to be gender neutral in marketing, the Ladies rank is no longer needed. Helpful in its time but now a part of the past that helped us reach this present.

It's very exaggerated. That sort of content gets the clicks. I have not experienced anything quite so severe and those I know who have find it uncommon.

I second that question. Best MOCs and Must MOC are very different things to everyone. Best thing to MOC to me are: Adventurers, racing cars, spaceships and Castles. Must MOC to me would be A Castle, a very big spaceship.

Those pink tyres are amazing. I also like the look of the parts of the peacock, lots of good curved bricks and wedge plates. Again, more fun colours for me to play with.
