  1. I can't understand why you are getting quite so twisted in knots about the MOC, I think a few other members have also pointed out that there is more chance they built their own with no copying, looking them up on RB, I have declined to link that drama here. My original intention was to share some stats between the two but you haven't exactly covered yourself in glory on the site. Examining the parts list, his has more parts, has significantly different parts and is not a copy of your MOC but, a build of The MOST ICONIC MOVIE CAR. (Features in every list I can find, always top 10, often if not no1, the picture of it leads the article/is the thumbnail etc). If I built your MOC, but made it purple, or bought custom chrome bricks, or pimped it up with gold, or switched some parts/added some bits to make the BTTF 3 version, or the 50's rebuild, I should say: Hey, I built this guy's MOC but did xyz to it. If I examined you MOC, reverse engineered the outer and made a few cosmetic changes, I should say: Hey, I saw this MOC and built one of my own, using the pictures as a guide. I made abc changes. That is the sort of fair acknowledgement expected in a genuine, actual case of building from someone else's MOC. If, say, my BTT fan brother-in-law said "Build me a DeLorean time machine car like the speed champions" I would probably pull out my Hotwheels diecast, borrow my brother's larger scale LEGO set and check out which Speed Champion cars are a good place to start. Then, I would work out parts and methods to use to create it. (At the moment, Avatar sets have some interesting flexi-rubber to use) I would come out with my own version that could very well look like your MOC, because we built the same thing. However, I didn't sit there and use your MOC pictures etc to create it, I simply built the same subject in the same medium. As for wanting some sort of "ownership" when building a MOC of a thing and expecting others not to: In all honesty, the reverse is true for me. If I plan to build a MOC and find someone else has done something the same and very close to where I would go, I do not bother/delay building it, maybe if mine has some real differences, I might. Thing is though, if I have no idea someone else has built the same thing, I go right ahead and build, then share it.
  2. That is a good question. I think it is a nice part and I love it, Goats are a favourite of mine. (The Goat Tag I have actually predates the LEGO part, it used to be an MSN icon goat until the LEGO part debuted), it is good to have extras and I even got -ahem- compatible goats from elsewhere to increase the herd. (I like to have a goat in my large MOC scenes, a little signature). Maybe everyone else, once they get a goat, will be happy with it beyond the cliché desirability and the attraction of a rarity. Now, I do not own one, but a capybara is coming soon also... I will one day have a lovely petting zoo farm MOC with all these animals
  3. We don't really delete accounts, they can be changed to groups with no access to the forum, renamed or otherwise altered in the background, but not deleted. That is true for posts too, only Spam gets removed. If you have shared information you are uncomfortable with having on the internet, those posts can be removed, but otherwise not much else.
  4. Return of the Goat has me looking at parts again! So yes: GOAT is back. It is good to see. Also: The Bat Lord helmet is a thing of beauty, lovely sculpt, excellent style and generally very cool. The double sided cape is a super treat. I am also going to praise an older part: The Raptor bike from Stuntz is just so silly and I love it. Anyway, this could just end up being me praising the CMF parts, so I will close it here
  5. Bricklink has a handy list of Space themes: Alien Conquest Blacktron I Blacktron II Classic Space Exploriens Futuron Galaxy Squad Ice Planet 2002 Insectoids Life on Mars M:Tron Mars Mission RoboForce Space Police I Space Police II Space Police III Spyrius UFO Unitron I am not sure if any are missed from a Eurobricks perspective. The main difference here on Eurobricks, and the reason for the subtitle (unlike a list, like Action and Adventure Themes) is that all Science Fiction MOCs that are not already a LEGO License or have been a License (Like Marvel and DC, Star Wars, Overwatch and Doctor Who) would belong here. If someone were to make a Star Trek model, that would go here because LEGO doesn't have a license. If you make a Steampunk or Cyberpunk vehicle or vignette, that would belong here in SciFi. A generic Alien World with no IP or LEGO theme would belong. If you were to build a Moon Rocket inspired by From the Earth to the Moon, or a Robotics lab inspired by Asimov: All SciFi. Halo, Doom, Armoured Core : Those games are SciFi but not Licensed by LEGO so you would have the MOCs here. Science Fiction is indeed a broad brush. That Arctic theme of science and discovery? Put a defrosted monster or alien crash? SciFi (also y'know... The Thing) because aliens are there. I have described Action and Adventure themes in the past as Too Normal for SciFi but too Weird for City. So the case for SciFi would be Not normal/grounded enough for Action Themes. To fantastic for City.
  6. I appreciate you can see a lot of similarities, to the point that it looks like copying. However, on the balance of things, I just see two Time Machine DeLorean MOCs. It is an Iconic Movie Car, so someone can easily come upon a similar parts use when creating their own model at the same scale, how else are they to build one. There is no way to create it without using any of the same parts, Mr Fusion is a cylinder, LEGO has a cylinder anyone would use to represent that. It is not a brick-for-brick copy so one can only say they took inspiration from the Back to the Future Movies. In the case of a unique and original MOC, if someone were to say, draw inspiration from one of my builds, some credit to the original MOC would be all I would like, nothing more. If someone had posted something that took all my design but gave no credit and claimed ownership; then I would probably share it to the Brick/MOC Busters to judge. (If they are still going!). However, it would have to be a unique concept, or a very very close copy (all parts, a unique figure parts combo etc) if I was building off some artwork I saw online or the work of someone else in another medium (Say a model maker who uses clay, or the works of a designer like Daniel Simon), then it is reasonable that someone else also came across the same solution when building their own interpretation of that work. Probabilities wise, I think the one place that is close to claim someone has copied another is in figure part combination, only if those parts were truly uniquely combined. AKA, no characters or official product that suggests it, parts that are separated by years and themes and availability, it would be virtually impossible to create within such a small (global population wise) community. So, yeah. If I spotted someone doing very close to This figure or MOC, I think I would be grumpy to not be credited.
  7. Could people use the report function and not confront others in the thread? That way staff can come in and tidy up. @legoturtle you need to keep away from those subjects. It is bad enough you hold them personally without you broadcasting them on an unrelated site. If you find you can't resist it, you will find you can't continue on the forum. Benefit of the doubt is being eroded by all these issues you are creating.
  8. Arctic is not ScFi? That is certainly a lot more like Town/City and actual modern day operations by polar scientists. In other discussion: Got to the LEGO store yesterday, currently displays were geared to the upcoming Valentine's day so most of the built models were the floral sets. But there was a lovely selection of the space sets to choose from. I wonder if this new space push will result in some Build-a-Minifig parts and PaB pick'n'build to choose from? That would be nice and worth the visit in the future.
  9. Okay guys, I think we need some time to chill out a little. People are getting a little over the top about things, taking misplaced comments seriously and all that. Maybe step away for a bit, then come in with fresh heads.
  10. Okay then, Majorette is also in amongst all that. (I honestly thought Hasbro had Matchbox after Tyco...) which covers the "Offers a different option" part of the brand selection example I made. Majorette has a line of Rally livery diecast and being French is more Eurocentric in its products. Hot Wheels is more fantasy casting than Matchbox (So I guess the "action theme" to the City theme here) Oh, even more relevant to my using cars as an example: Teamsterz exist as a diecast brand that is not as expensive as the bigger brands but still has both realistic and fantasy casts for someone who can't afford a lot of the "premium" stuff but still wants to bulk out a collection for the kids or for a display.
  11. An issue I have noticed here are people mixing up Competitor brands with Bootleg brands. This was an issue a few years ago too, so I helped with the FAQ/Glossary. I think I will repeat: A "Clone Brand" is a competitor brand produced by a legitimate business. Mega Block, Cobi, Block Tech, Best Lock etc. These brands produce compatible bricks and pieces with their own branding and figures. The figures are not exactly the same as LEGO, but accessories are often interchangeable. They have their own themes and play set designs. Some of them are IP (Halo from Mega, World of Tanks from Cobi etc) some are generic like Police cars and construction vehicles, maybe spaceships and Castles. However they all have their own branding. This includes some of the new brands that use generic bricks to produce designs by MOC designers who are partners or otherwise cooperating with the company. A Bootleg or copy "brand" is a rip-off of an actual legitimate product. The logos are made to match the brand they are copying, the figures are copied from LEGO, they are trying to fool consumers or are simply matching up to make a quick buck. These are also the "companies" that steal MOCs to sell as sets. They are not working with the AFOL who created the original, they don't have permission. So yes, the actual frauds are bad, but a real competitor is part of life. Matchbox cars exist in the same market as Hot Wheels cars. McFarlane toys action figures and Figuarts populate the action figures shelves in a Comic Shop.
  12. Some facts I would like before I can say much: Has the builder of the second MOC specifically said they were inspired by or used elements of your build? Do you distribute the instructions for people to use for building a copy? Was your build that you created completely devoid of any LEGO Set techniques (AKA, based on the wheelbase design of a Speed Champion Set, or started with the actual DeLorean Set with the intention of scaling down)? When two people build something based of an iconic element of a very well known pre-existing property, it is not easy to say someone has copied a specific MOC if their version looks like the source to the same extent as your own. Some common build techniques are so universal that they are not copied, but come upon by builders independent of each other, so even that cannot be used as a basis for judging. Without the context of a MOC post, it is also hard to say - if someone mentions basing a build of someone else's version, that could make a case.
  13. They are not exactly counterfeit, just competing brands. All the major supermarkets here in the UK have both LEGO and at least one other, sometimes more, competing brands. Science Museum branded technic-like sets, a generic BlockTech brand has several packaging types depending on the stockists. B&M Bargains has a more "mature" black coloured box for some of the kits, while the exact same product has cheerful primary colours for the box in Morrisons supermarket. Mega sets are either with companion brands (So Hot Wheels sets with the diecast cars, Pokémon sets with other Pokémon merch, Barbie building sets with the fashion dolls, etc). Or in the construction bricks section. 100% market domination would be damaging for everyone.
  14. Unfortunately, these minimally "intrusive" (Has anyone seen the Fandom wiki pages eh? Now those are bad) ads that slide up from the bottom are a part of the ad client. Seeing as they hardly disrupt use of the forum, I can't tell what the issue is. (Granted, mine are all for World of Books... So I just see exciting books I may want to buy). Sadly, forums do cost money to run, even if all the staff are volunteers.
  15. That would be the Google Ad client. not this actual site. Unless you choose to have the site "remember me" with cookies so you don't have to log in fresh each time? @Jim we don't run any kind of "trackers" do we?
  16. I'll repeat what is said elsewhere: The forum runs off the ad revenue. Without it, we would have to shut down. Software and hosting is not free. Once the site loses too much money to run, it will be gone. I am aware that a few people dislike ads and the software in them (If you use Chrome, Google already knows everything about you so it is pretty pointless to block ads with anything in them) but there would be no Eurobricks without them.
  17. A new poll is in place, with the new set. Feel free to cast a new vote, if your favourite has changed, or remains the same.
  18. Has everyone forgotten the rule of NO POLITICS? It is right there in the guidelines. If you start yattering on with "political" this and "politics" that, well... You are breaking the rules. So: Stop it. Leave it alone. Don't get banned. Super simple. (PS: This post is a line in the discussion. Any more posts continuing the subject you have been asked to stop? The poster will find themselves in isolation.)
  19. I love those books! I came to them a little later as they were already out of print when I was a kid. Found a great condition copy of Spacecraft in a second hand bookshop when I finished uni early one day. It sparked a hunt to collect them all (Pleased to say, I have them now!) they certainly inspire and influence my own space MOCs Those ships are a great match to the source, thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing more.
  20. A cartoon that was not as good as Hey Arnold! As you can see, there are characters who are teal, there were purple people also I think a few other odd colours. I suppose a good similar example would be The Tweenies in the UK...
  21. However, we do still have some core themes, and there is nothing saying "the core" cannot shift. With a decade + lifespan, Ninjago has become a core theme, not something we predicted when I was asked to be staff for the soon-to-be-formed Action Themes subforum. I honestly thought I would be looking after a section with an ever changing roster and some firm favourites that had nostalgia appeal (Like Adventurers and Aqua-(fill in the blank)) as a foundation. Instead, while indeed Adventurers and deep sea exploration remain cornerstones. Ninjago has lasted and lasted, with AFOLs coming in who grew up with the theme just the same as the original online AFOLs grew up with Space/Town/Castle.
  22. See, I like Dreamzzz and it seems a lot more coherent than Time Cruisers/Time Twisters was and that theme falls into the timescale people are arguing to be a good era... I enjoy the flights of fancy and the fantastical world of the Dream World.
  23. I will have to quiz her on what sort of "building stuff" she likes. As I said, she has a few system sets, she also knits and sews. So fiddly work doesn't put her off.
