[Review] 8109 Tow Truck
Superkalle replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It was designed by Anders Gaasedal who, among other models, has designed the following ones (which makes him my favorite Technics designer) From what I know, Anders has now moved on and is on the Mindstorms team. The 8109 was the last one he did before switching teams. -
how can i get the two bricks back in LDD
Superkalle replied to SNIPE's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes, you are right. It works with colors, because all color exist in the color palette (even though they cannot be selected directly). For parts it's different. If they are not in the brick palette, then cannot be chosen (or are removed if you open a file with them in it). Basically the geometry of the part is not there, so LDD cannot display it. -
[Software] LDD Manager
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for the kinds words David. I really appreciate it. And about the version numbering. Funny you should ask because I'm myself wondering why I'm having this system. I mean, when will I ever reach 1.0. And no, unfortunately TLG have not shown any interest, so my hopes of earning the big bucks (like when YouTube was sold) seems distant. But they do know about it, which I guess is kind of cool. -
LDD update 4.1.8 released
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I think it's 4092. Has it ever been in LDD? 4025 is in there however, but it's the one with 5mm peg. It's a good testamente that the brick bugs we report actually get fixed. -
how can i get the two bricks back in LDD
Superkalle replied to SNIPE's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
(the only way to get the chain element back is to uninstall 4.1.8 and install 4.1.7 and then say "no" everytime it wants to update during start) LDD Manager is a crappy piece of software - don't trust it No, but seriously, the chain element is gone from LDD 4.1.8, and I can't seem to find any replacement. This was surely a mistake by TLG. The old pharaos headpiece 30168 (released 1998, named x177 in BL) was replaced by 90462 released 2011. However, these are actually two different molds, and therefore the old 30168 should actually not have been removed from LDD. Now that it has however, you can use LDD Manager ( ) to parse through all your LXF-files and replace all instances of 30168 with 90462. Or you could wait until the next release of LDD and see if the 30168 will be put back in. -

identical tires in LDD?
Superkalle replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
And I can only add that the two tires are very similar, but different. I have them in front of me and the difference is minute. It can also be added that LDD is basically a peephole directly into the internal element structure of LEGO (quite interesting btw), and since LEGO always creates a new DesignID even for small changes in the mold, this ends up in LDD as well. Therefore you have a situation in LDD with several parts that may look identical, but aren't. In most cases in however, you can actually spot the difference by looking at them, but for this particular wheel the level of detail of the geometry is too low. -
Now, that is a very good question. I'm been wondering about that myself. In many other cases there are similar bricks in LDD, but you can sort of figure out what the difference is (often some minute difference in the molding). However these two I have no clue about. In LDD Manager both items are mapped to 60483, so for that it doesn't matter which one you use.

LDD file request
Superkalle replied to lakuda's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The thing I think needs to be clearified is wether the original designer says OK to copy it, because that's essentially what we are talking about, right? I think it would be easier to take on a job like this if you knew what it was for. You can get into a situation with other AFOLs if you copy work without asking or without giving due credit. -
MOC: Into Nayeli
Superkalle replied to alienwar9's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
...and frontpaged (it was inevitable) -
Into Nayeli All-digital-MOCs can sometimes be a bit bland. But then comes along one of such unpredicent level that you are just blown away. This is exactly what Alienwar9 has managed with his latest MOC. Take a minute and look at the gallery here. (and note that you can even download the massive source files - it you think your computer can handle them )

Hi Perry 2739 is marked for deletion in the BL catalogue. TLG has used 32005 (with stoppers) for many years, so I'm quite certain it's supposed to be that element, and then it is in LDD. 32136 isn't in LDD, but 32138 is and that is the one to use. This is mostly an error in the BL catalogue (6 instead of an 8). Tip: Use LDD Manager to search for the BL numbers, and you will see if it's in LDD or not. You can unfortunately not rely on just taking the BrickLink ItemID and searching for that in LDD.

Well, well - A new dawn in the LDD history - custom made building instruction steps. It would be really intersting to hear some more about how you did this. And also very nice to see that you managed to complete the entire model without errors. It really shows that LDD is getting to be a really dependable tool. (EDIT: Any particular reason why the file is saved in LU Mode and not Extended?)

You know what this is? It's artistry, that's what it is. You are using LDD to create artwork. Just amazing. Never seen anything like it before -
[Software] LDD Manager

BTW, I'm working on an update to LDD Manager to support the new bricks in 4.1.8. Should be out in a few days. -
LDD update 4.1.8 released
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
When they updated from 3 to 4 (I think it was), they made a change to the brick defintion standard, so bricks that were all good to use in 3, caused severe aches and pains in 4. Hence, several bricks had to go back to the drawing board, and some then didn't make it for the new release. That's how I understood it at least. But all those brick issues was fixed in the early days of 4.x, so we should be all good now. The 3711 was most likely removed by mistake - it should be in there even without the connectivity (like all the other sprockets). -
I can't remember seeing that before to be honest. So I say like I always say: Well spotted my good man. I'll report it to TLG so they can put it into their giant TO-DO pile No, but seriously though, my experience is that in some cases it can take up 6 months for a brick bug to be fixed. I know those brick geometry guys at TLG are swamped with other stuff besides LDD.

LDD update 4.1.8 released
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Now I'm becoming uncertain too. What was the Brickset version in 4.1.7? It's 434 now, but what was it before? -
[Software] LDD Manager
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Good points. About your last question; 2007 and 2010 reads 2003 databases fine, and since some people haven't still updated from 2003 I decided to stay with 2003 (and besides, I didn't any of the fancy new features in 2007 or 2010 ). Also, the 2003 runtime is the last runtime that is readily available and easy to install as a separate SW (at least from what I recall). And to be very, very honest - Access 2003 is what I know best, and I simply haven't had the time to look into the upgrade process -
LDD update 4.1.8 released
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Got some very brief info on the changes in 4.1.8 from TLG: My comments: 1) i.e. more parts. I don't think however LU mode saw as many new parts as Extended. 2) Yes, we've seen that, allthough the category icons doesn't always map to the content as noted by Alienwar9 (And for those who don't know, DesignLab is the internal function at TLG that decides on the LEGO system, allowed building principles, colors etc).
