MOC: Mini City
Superkalle replied to alienwar9's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Alienware, I was wondering about assembling those big files. Here's how I do it, are we doing it the same way? The case is that I've made a couple of submodels of about 15.000 bricks, that I need to compile into a total 50.000 brick file. Naturally LDD becomes incredibly slow even though. Then I import the various submodels (waiting a minute or two before they appear). Then it's the matter of attaching the sub-models in the correct place. I normaly select a 1x1 brick in the sub-model and move the mouse quickly to the correct stud on the master model. Then I wait a minute and hopefully they will have snapped together. Is this how you do it too? And also, what is the largest LDD file (number of bricks) you've managed to open and use in LDD? -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Superkalle replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hope you take this the right way, but I'm not sure why even you wrote that it takes five minutes to load the screen when your computer specs and connecton are so extremely poor. When you write 5 minutes naturally people come to the help. Anyway, it's time to wrap up computer spec talk and get back on topic -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?

In the MAC version I think it's used when you browse LXF-files in the "explorer" (or whatever it's called on a Mac). I always thought the same feature (PNG preview) was available on Windows too, but I never managed to turn it on. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Superkalle replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The start screen does take a long time to load if you have large LXF-files in the recent-file list. That's because the thumbnails of the previous files are in fact 3D objects you can rotate with your mouse (right click), so LDD has to load the data from the LXF-file, not just the PNG-thumbnail. If your recent file list is empty or only has small sized files in it, it should open in a matter of seconds. And even with huge files it shouldn't take more then 10-20 seconds. If it takes five minutes there is something else that is wrong. -
LDD 1.6 to 4.1.8

1.6? Wow, that was an old version. I don't even know if 1.6 files are compatiable with 4.x. -

Hope you get LDD Manager to work. Only downside with it is that you need Microsoft Access, but you can download the runtime for free. If you get it installed it should take about 2 seconds to do the inventory instead of 3 hours -

You can tally the bricks by using LDD Manager. It also allows you to upload the list to BrickLink. -
Category errors in 4.1.8
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Something I don't understand is why 61409 (1x2 roof tile with lattice) and 49668 ("tooth") are in the windscreen section. Anyone knows if there is any historic reason? The "tyres" section is also odd. It has the scateboard in it, but not the wheel barrel which uses the same wheel. Nor does the section have the 47576 hockey puck, even though it is named "WHEEL". Or the hub caps. And the motorcycle rims and tyres are in the Technic cog wheels category. The 30663 16 diameter STEERING WHEEL is in the steering wheel console category, but the 24 mm STEERING WHEEL is in the Technics section. The minifig mantle is in the tubes and strings section. I can understand it's a cloth material, but still The 58827 LATTICE TOWER is in the steering wheel console section, but the almost identical 30517 LATTICE TOWER is in the headlight brick section. The identical parts 6016 and 62113 LATTICE PLATE are in two different sections. -
[KEY TOPIC] Wanted bricks in LDD

No problem bumping I've already sent the list to TLG, but I'll let them know about your double decker and we'll see what happens. -

I guess the T-piece is in the Technics category because it's an old Technics piece. The small claw piece I can agree on though. -

The almost doors 3190 (old mold) and 60657 (new mold) are in two different categories. -
Ouch, a nasty one. I'll report it to TLG.

Category errors in 4.1.8
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It's actually not meant to be child friendly per se. It's just that the search algorithm is a very loose because of the odd TLG brick naming (incorrect spelling, strange naming of parts, some parts are in danish etc). -

OK, I see it. If you search for "sword" you find them spread over two different categories - the Lever-icon and the Minifig-icon. -
LDD MOC: Abandoned factory
Superkalle replied to Just_a_man's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Once again a super creation with a cool post apocalyptic feel (but you need to add the LXF if the MOC should stay here in the LDD forum ) -
TLG decided to play around with the categories in 4.1.8, causing much confusion to us builders. I guess we can get used to it, but there are som pretty blatent errors in the current categorisation. Please use this topic to post the errors and other oddities you find. I'll start with one 1) Most tiles have been moved to the section with the icon of 1x1 Modifyed plate with clip on the side. However, the 48288 FLAT TILE 8x16 has not and remain in the Plates section.

Scale question.
Superkalle replied to Mikey.'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi Mikey A truck is typicially 2.6 meter wide and a car 1.6-1,8 meter. This equals a ratio of of approximately 1.5 (average) So if your truck is 12 wide a car should be 12/1.5 = 8 studs. Using the ratio above, if your LEGO tyre is 30 mm in outer diameter then the car tyre should be 20 mm. Double checking with reality: a truck tire is about 1 meter in diameter. Using the ratio above a car tyre should be 66 cm, which is about right for a normal sized family car. -
