  1. Sign me up please! I really think that a UCS AT-AT would be a smart move by Lego. It's iconic, huge, and is a much appreciated diversion from a UCS line that is mostly spaceships. In some ways, I think seeing it on display in my house would be more impressive than any large spaceship like the UCS SSD.
  2. That's because there isn't one. There's a Lego Discovery Center in Chicago, with a rather large store, so he may be referring to that. If you read further, someone else suggested a Bricklink store in Illinois with Legoland (or Leg0land, since on Bricklink doesn't allow the word Lego in store titles anymore) in the title. The point is... we have no idea where he bought them
  3. When judging the 'best' set, you have to rule out all biases and opinions- that means every set is judged on not only minifigs or design aesthetics, but price, playability, and other factors. Some of the votes I'm seeing don't fit the bill. Jabba's palace has amazing figures and the set is spectacular in its own right, but nothing can justify that price. The Sith Fury is eye catching and well-designed, but only has 3 minifigs (not a lot for a set of that size) and is a little too compact and small- not to mention being a bit pricey as well. After examining all the pros and cons of this year's sets, I'd say it's a close race between the Skiff and the TIE fighter. Each only has one truly notable flaw- the TIE fighter was just a hair overpriced ($49.99 would have been more respectable that 54.99) and the Skiff is still lacking some small design aspects like the railings and nose on the movie vehicle. Just my two cents, but I'd like to see a poll- then we could really settle the score!
  4. Good catch. You can't tell it's the same torso from that photo, but FBTB has a clearer picture on their home page. That new Mirilian minifig will almost certainly be in the new TOR exclusive. Looking at the posts, there's still some confusion about Stass Allie vs. Adi Gallia- it's Stass Allie, it says so on the box. Also, I see a few complaints about the new cyborg Darth Maul- his face is unpleasant due to being CW-ified, but his legs are very accurate. He's taller than a normal character in the show, and they made it that way. Plus the place where his hips attach to his torso looks seamless- well done, Lego! It's amazing to see that the piece-price ratio in this wave has gotten better overall- the only exception being Jabba's Sail Barge. 6 minifigs and a ship that's SMALLER than the last version does not justify the $45 price hike. It's an even worse situation than Jabba's Palace...
  5. These sets are some of the worst I've seen in a very long time. The minifigs are fine, but not outstanding- War Machine's shoulder-mounted gun is absolute trash. The Mandarin looks like he should be a dwarf from the hobbit line... And most importantly: NO. IRON. PATRIOT.
  6. I don't think he means the quality of the pieces themselves or the playability compared to Megablocks. He's implying that they are sub-standard quality sets, which many have agreed upon- while the minifigs (as usual with Lego these days) are great, the sets are lacking in terms of design and aesthetic quality. It's true that these might be popular for kids and TMNT fans (Lego is a toy, after all, and is designed first and foremost for the young ones) but for the average Lego collector they have not been received all too well.
  7. I have the set and I can confirm that, yes, the helmets are the TCW version with clip-ins, but with new printing. Hope this helps! EDIT: Beaten to it!
  8. Went to two Detroit TRU's, the first only had the Headhunter. I asked an employee to look up which stores had the new sets and there was only one other TRU nearby that had any of them. By the time I got there, they were all gone! Just a heads up, the BOGO 50% for Star Wars works in-store for the 2013 sets if you can find them! I ended up ordering online- got both battle packs, the AT-RT, and the A-Wing with the BOGO, plus a Gandalf at Dol Goldur to get me free shipping. Hoth is out of stock online and the Headhunter and Rancor pit don't count for the BOGO for some reason. Happy Hunting!
  9. I've heard a lot of people say they're finding the Destiny's Bounty for $35 at Walmart and a few other Ninjago sets discounted as well. I've been to several Walmarts with no luck- if anyone managed to snag one up, or any of the other sets on 50% discount recently, I'd be willing to pay cash through Paypal or negotiate a trade for a reasonable offer. PM me if interested. Thanks!
  10. Went to two Walmarts and found a few good deals- got the Dump Truck for $9.50, a clone battle pack for $6, and 4 polybags for $1.50. They had a lot of city sets, Mines of Moria, and a game or two on sale as well. I was surprised to see a Jabba's Palace for $80, but I already have that set so I didn't pick it up. Was really hoping to find the Destiny's Bounty for the $35 bargain people are talking about
  11. Detroit Lego Store had the Umbarran MHC, BARC with sidecar, and Rancor pit. Strangely that was all they had- none of the small sets were in yet.
  12. Agreed, just look at the new Battle of Hoth set- it's got about the same minifigs as 7666 Hoth Rebel Base, and a similar snowspeeder and probe droid. However, 7666 had the huge opening doors, which is much larger than the wimpy turret and bunkers we get in Battle of Hoth. The catch is they're the same price (in USD at least)- it's ridiculous! As a side note, the entire 2012 winter lineup is up on Lego.com in the USA- nice to see the Umbarran MHC at a very reasonable $50
  13. Good point! I'm guessing that Lego will put a picture of the Barge with the Skiff on the back of the Barge box, or some kid is going to be pretty confused when he has no good guys to fight with
  14. Actually it's probably Ree-Yees, seeing as he was a preliminary figure in Jabba's palace (correct me if I'm wrong?) Plus looking at the minifigs on the bottom of the box, the figure has no lightsaber and a non-standard minifig head- it's blurry though, so we can't be sure. I do completely agree with you about including Luke- why would they not include anyone for the bad guys to fight?
  15. I see whatcha did there I agree, I think the Corsair ship is surprisingly appealing- Lego does love to release 'vehicles,' so I'm not surprised they chose this instead of a large land battle. Still would love a Minas Tirith though- wishful thinking
  16. Ditto. Smaller, less features/detail, and more expensive- that set was the epitome of Lego's price hikes these days. As far as the new sets go, I know they're just prelims, but they're still very disappointing. The barge is just although its figure selection is great. Just look at that nose! I understand what Lego was trying to do with the sloping but it just didn't come out right... And the RGS is another rehash, unless it has some new features we can't see yet. But these are prelims, so now the waiting game begins- I'll wait for the finalized products, and who knows? I might eat my words if they turn out OK
  17. I agree- it seems Lego has improved on the good aspects of the theme while simultaneously highlighting its weaknesses. The lack of a large red team vehicle is inexcusable, especially if someone wanted to display all of their human factions together- the red team would look pathetic!
  18. Just noticed on the mini Tie Bomber- the engine pieces for both of the 'pods' that make up the body of the ship are the new astromech droid head piece in light bley! It's the one that is the new head of the astromechs in last winter's X-wing, Y-wing, and TIE fighter
  19. Great review! One question though- could you please tell us or take pictures of what's inside the cockpit, and if the back hatch opens up?
  20. Amazon.com has some of the new sets listed- both battle packs, the Rancor pit, and the AT-RT!
  21. Didn't someone already say that the new sail barge only has six minifigs and will be a smaller price point? If so, that's an interesting development... I doubt any of these sets are ROTS- they're releasing AOTC in 3D and will probably focus on that instead. And just because an advent calendar hasn't been announced doesn't mean there won't be one- don't give up hope yet!
  22. 5 by Mad About Lego - 1 point 10 by Darth Nick - 1 point 11 by whataboutlego - 1 point I enjoyed watching these- well done to all!
  23. 9 by Captain Nemo - 1 Point 2 by Wonderpuddle - 1 Point 16 by Hammerstein NWC - 1 Point The Punisher's pose is very clever, and the designs for the Justice League and Harley are top-notch. Well done by all!
  24. No one on likes it when you assume that we know things about Marvel comics that you do. And yes, I do know what the Extremis virus is, because you yelled at the entire forum two pages back about us not being aware of it. Also, you posted the same thing twice, just phrased differently. Double-check your posts please. Moving on, I did a little research and I can (most likely) end this ring discussion once and for all. It appears that the Mandarin will not have magical powers due to his rings, or if he does, he won't be using them. He's a terrorist who utilizes modern weaponry and the Extremis virus to battle Tony. In addition, there's a shot of him in the new trailer where he's not even wearing the rings. It is beyond improbable for Lego to make any ring piece, such as the one proposed by Crissmonster- not because they can't (they could, and it's a wonderful idea Crissmonster, I would love that piece put into production), but because if the rings are not a major factor in the movie, there's no reason to draw attention to them. No playability, no feasibility, no rings.
  25. First off, I'm pretty sure the whole 10 rings thing was shot down a while ago. Second, what do you mean if the Mandarin doesn't have super powers he could 'beat him up easily?' None of the Iron man villains so far had any superpowers. Third, it's already been established that the suits have a 'mind of their own' because of Tony's new bio-mechanical-ish ability to control the suits, it has nothing to do with the Mandarin. Besides, why would the Mandarin be controlling them when the suits are fighting against him?
