What do you mean by spanker masts? Like Foremast Jack said, measurements are always difficult in LEGO. Personally I think Teddy used a good scale, although it was in metres/centimetres. He used scale 1:39 (minifig scale), so in that case, when you use Trincomalee as an example, the beam should be about 31,2cm. The length accross the gundeck should be 117,5cm (in real it's 45.834m). That would mean the beam should be about 40 studs and the length accross the gundeck about 148 studs. Trincomalee was slightly bigger than HMS Surprise but it seems to me that the arrangements are about the same. So I think you could do something in the middle for your ship. Good luck!

I'm not sure if it makes a bit difference, but I wouldn't consider HMS Surprise, ex-L'Utiné a typically British frigate.

You already had a warning, so could you first resize the pictures now? Otherwise we're forced to remove them. Just look at the tutorials Capt. Blackmoor has pointed out to you. If you have questions about that, feel free to ask them but in the meantime please don't upload more oversized images.

Great job so far. I like how you incorporated the figurehead into the ship. I also like the fact that you're using yellow gunports. The only thing you should fix IMO is the headrails. Perhaps you're still working on it, but I think it should be more curved towards the bow (like here for example).

I've been working on the index lately, and I believe that every ship of this forum is indexed now. However, it could be that I missed a few. So if somebody can't find his/her ship in the index, then please make me aware of it and I'll fix it As a side note: I only index finished ships, so no WIP's.

I'm impressed Impressed by the design and how it works excellently. Surprising how weapons can sometimes be pieces of art as well. Perhaps you could make a fort with some loose/staggering walls which you can shoot at. That would make an even greater film! Anyway, I think Avalon will be very happy with this

Nice job on the rigging. This ship looks very neat. I think your way of building the stern is very clever and could be used more often on other ships. The curved parts close to the rudder make it look very realistic. Just one think, I couldn't tell from the pictures, but did you add catheads?: The small beams sticking out here where you can hang the anchor on to.

Or how about a series of vignettes all about "who killed the redcoat?". Anyway, I agree, it could be the parrot. His head is covered in blood. Nice MOC. Perhaps not very spectacular, but with a good story it's very welcome

I'll go a bit off topic for this one time. Galleons indeed had grates. But ship evolution made the grates lower by one deck, and place gangways instead. So now the gangways defend the guncrew to get all sorts of wood fragments and stuff from above. The open space makes the smoke easy to blow away. And the deck below the main deck gets more light and fresh air. I hope I explained this clearly

The 76th Elite Visothane Guard
Admiral Croissant replied to General Gerhard Visothane's topic in Pirate MOCs
Thanks for your improved posts. We'll forget about the previous ones Again nice pictures in the open air. Those soldiers will be quite disappointed now because they're wearing white pants in the mud -
So you only need a name? I believe the "walking platforms" are called gangways (reference on the bottom of this page). As far as I know it's very unusual for a galleon to have those, but indeed the movie Flying Dutchman has them as well.

Beautiful! Good work on the photography, and on the ship itself. The shape, details colourscheme and modularity are all great. There are a few historical inaccuracies (like a steering wheel) but outside of that it would easily fit within the great Armada! I only think you should change the crew a bit (if you can). The guys in the middle look like they are wearing underpants over their trousers. Anyway, I'll index and blog this [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ->look for it on our frontpage soon!

The 76th Elite Visothane Guard
Admiral Croissant replied to General Gerhard Visothane's topic in Pirate MOCs
Looks nice! I especially like the shot with the water. The custom flag is also nice. You can find a tutorial for uploading pictures in my signature, but first you also need do resize your images. And could you please stop bumping old threads unless you have something important to add? And finally, please improve your grammar and punctuation a bit, so not too many !!'s and no things like ASAP. Thanks in forward And good luck on the pictures. -
I think the stern might look better with less, or smaller windows. But outside of that it looks very good. Perhaps the sides are still too smooth but I like the colourscheme. What are the main issues where you need more information?
-
We have some useful stuff in our own index. Here you can find a huge number of LEGO ships for reference. Here is a thread with a lot of pictures of historical and replica ships. This(and other) tutorial(s) by Horry is also very useful. And if you google for the ships in the second link (like Trincomalee, Batavia, Victory) you'll also find a lot of useful information. Good luck!

Avalonia Prince of the Forest
Admiral Croissant replied to Captain BeerBeard's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice MOC It has both a good fantasy and a realistic feeling with all those flowers. The trees are also nice, and you did a good job on the photography. -
Avalonia Trading Company Watchtower
Admiral Croissant replied to Captain Blackmoor's topic in Guilds of Historica
Good MOC. The cannon looks much stronger with that structure around it. You also gave it a nice ruined look, but still capture that feeling of a tower that used to be new and powerful. -
Nice ship I've put it in the index. Unfortunately I also have to bother you because of your image size. Some of the pictures are 800X1071 pixels, which is still too large. Anyway, I like the turkey stove and the large number of maps on the table. Well done.

WIP: Achille and Guerrière, French Frigates of 28 guns
Admiral Croissant replied to BrickPerfection's topic in Pirate MOCs
Beautiful! Very realistic I didn't do those smaller ropes because I thought it would be too much work, but I never thought of using glue. Do the smaller ropes hold well? In that case I might also give it a try on the Vesta in the future. Does the back of this sail look similar? Or without the smaller ropes? Anyway, well done, and I can't wait to see Guerrière! -
Nice MOC. Hidden in the rocks it seems to offer very good shelter. I also like the hideout place in the rock, the classical feeling and the gate building. Perhaps the roofs would look more realistic in brown but outside of that I like it
-
Beautiful! Nice colourscheme, good work on the roofs and windows and I also like the brown leg details. Somehow the windows below look quite modern but I guess they were just modern when they were firstly build I think this will be a good addition to your large project!

You're doing an excellent job on the rigging I'm not sure about the anchor. It's not very smooth. I do like the fact that you're trying to develop your own technique. The lamps are also nice. I think they fit very well on this ship. My only tip is to add a lateen sail to the mizzen mast (like here). It would make the ship more realistic since every galleon had this sail, and it would make the ship more manoeuvrable.
-
Very impressive! You really did an excellent job so far on the smooth shapes and the connection between the bow and the rest. I also like the dark blue details a lot and the gundeck already looks extremely realistic. I agree with Green Hair that the bow needs some work. Especially this part IMO (cutwater supports). Compared to this image, you can see that it doesn't reach the same level as the catheads. So perhaps something like this would look better (although with my MS Paint skills it looks worse ) Good luck!

Nice creation of a very classical Pirate scene. Overall it looks quite realistic with all the foliage, and the water is nice too with the white tiles and transclear plates. And of course I also like the chimp
