  1. Very interesting concept. I've often wondered if this would be possible but I don't have any technic LEGO skills. The most awesome would be a one sided broadside with all the cannons firing after each other, but I guess that'll be very difficult. I do think it's possible to build a sturdy custom hull and put the battery in it. Or perhaps you could place it in the captain's cabin. Anyway, I'd like to put this on our frontpage [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  2. Beautiful! Although a bit expensive, this ship seems to be in the perfect LEGO style to be a real set. You also did a good job on the box art. I've indexed it, and I've put a link to the last picture in the first post of this topic. Hope you don't mind And congratulations on making it to the Eurobricks frontpage! Well deserved!
  3. I've had some talking with the crew, and there seem to be more problems due to which we can't organize it right now. However, there will be contests in the future, and it's good to hear that we can count on your help when we start one.
  4. Yeah adding a poll could be a good idea. Perhaps you could also include custom masts then, and perhaps this support piece. Out of your suggestions, I would choose the old one since the shape looks far more realistic.
  5. Nice ship! looks very classic and playable. I like how you did the railings above the cabin, the tiled decks and of course the tiled sides. I have one suggestion though. It could be a matter of taste, but I think the 1x1 tiles look a little bit strange there. Perhaps, if you'd place them next to a gunport, it could seem more like being part of a longer plank, like it continues on the other side of the gunport if you get what I mean. But still, you did a very good job
  6. That's a wonderful ship! The gunline is beautifully curved and I like the custom sails and rigging. I think they compensate very well for non-LEGO sails and ropes. But perhaps one of my favourite details is the cloth over the boats. And there are more clever uses of LEGO parts. Excellent job! I'll put this in the index straightaway [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  7. Great that you're taking the challenge of building this ship From the bowsprit to the main mast I like everything about it. From mast to stern I think it needs some more work though. The cabin in the back looks a bit too blocky and edgy to me. One way to change this is to lower the cabin. As you can see here, it's only about half the height of a person. Another thing you could do (or perhaps it's the best to do both) is make the deck go narrower towards the stern. Here's a reference picture for the narrowness. I think you've done a great job so far and I can't wait to see the first pictures of the real LEGO thing! Keep it up!
  8. Right now unfortunately we're quite short of manpower and funds, and it would be better to wait until the historia guild thing is over so we'll get more builders Quite a lot of people on the historical forum also visit the Pirates forum. However, I like the idea very much and personally I'd like to have a guild thing here. So feel free to come up with some ideas

  10. This is actually quite impressive and you clearly spent a lot of time on it. They might indeed be too detailed for LEGO but you sure did a great job here. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] I do switch the title from armèe to armée for the frontpage though
  11. Looks very nice! I only think the gunport line could be made a little smoother. Now it only seems to curve in the middle, which makes it look like the hull has collapsed there. But overall it looks good. Keep it up!
  12. What a coincidence. I saw a part of this movie last week It's a nice movie, and this is a great MOC. Good find
  13. Perhaps you should try to take some pictures without flashlight next time, some things really got overlighted. Anyway, the capstan is indeed very nice, and I also like the ropes around the stairs.
  14. Nice design I like the tan grey colourscheme and the decorations at the front, like what seem to be 1x1 tan round plates. I'm sure you could make this more awesome with a landscape, interior and minifigs around it, but for a "small MOC" this will do
  15. Very nice ship! Looks quite accurate to me. I now realize that the striped masts I thought to see on your other model are in fact plain white I agree with kurigan on the low gunports though, and how about making the railings longer? Like this: I think this makes it look more like a late 18th century ship. And you could also make a red stripe at the forecastle. Anyway, good job. Keep it up!

  17. If you sroll down a bit in this post, you'll see a bunch of sailor torsos. I don't think sailors from the 17th century are very different from those of the 18th, so I guess you can choose any torso. Here are a couple of nice ones as well.
  18. Beautiful galleon! There seems to be a kind of gap in the stern due to the galleries, but I like everything else about it. The SNOT deck is awesome, I like the small windows, and all the decorations are excellent. But I think my favourite aspect is the nice curve in the sceg/figurehead part/downside of the galleon Did you also consider making a custom anchor?
  19. You're right about that, and I said it in a slightly rude manner. It wasn't my intention to shut this whole conversation. However, even you said very recently " Anyway, on the topic of the forum, perhaps we need a competition to... " so you said you were being off topic. This conversation started with the question why there weren't more Golden Age Pirate MOCs, then it turned into a discussion about the Golden Age of piracy. I liked it to that point, but the last two posts were a bit too much chit chat to me, so stepped in because at that point it often gets more and more off topic. It wasn't a big deal, but perhaps I should have observed it a little longer. I did like the discussion about the Golden Age of pirates and I also like historical accuracy. A contest is a good idea, the crew has discussed a lack of interest as well, and indeed a contest could change that. However, it's hard to get enough dedicated crewmembers and at this moment we don't have enough funds to do it. But we're still working on both things True, and sometimes it's hard to determine the exact rules. The problem is, this is a LEGO forum in the first place, and I think we also might lose interest of the public if we talk endlessly about the historical context. I mean we could have any discussion if it's somehow related to pirates, but this forum is about LEGO pirates so we do have to set some kind of limit.
  20. Ahh now I get it. I guess it looked a bit different because he has no banners and stuff. Anyway, you can keelhaul me now And I'll put this in the index, otherwise I don't have anything to stay on topic with.
  21. Hmm... it's strange indeed. I can see a large blank space below your blogged image, but it doesn't seem possible to delete it. Well, never mind in that case.
  22. And could you please reduce the number of empty spaces in your post a bit? ..this also counts for Dreamweb by the way.. I guess Big Cam will index this somewhere in the near future since he does most of the Land based MOCs. However, don't ask for it too soon as most of the MODs don't like that very much.
  23. Very nice MOC overall. I can't spot a lot of interesting techniques, but it's just very nice and decent. Indeed it also seems like a very playable MOC to me. Things like secret caves and jailhouses in the rocks are always great features. Anyway, nicely done. It's only a shame that your camera makes the colours look a bit cold, but the MOC itself is great
  24. This looks very promising. I never saw a Google Sketchup LEGO ship before, how did you make it? The overall shape looks good. Perhaps the figurehead part is protruding a bit too much. Same thing for the back, perhaps you could easily fix that by adding another cannon in the large yellow space between the last gunport and the side gallery, or just by making the stern part less protruding. I don't mean the sloped stern here. That looks okay to me. And finally, it could be personal taste, but I'm not very fond of the all striped masts. It could look good on the first mast parts, but from the first masthead on I think it would look better all brown or black. But overall it's a very nice ship and the dimensions look good as well.
