  1. That's very nice! Especially the decks look very good, and the cannons are clever too. Some things like the crows nest (?) on the foremast make it look a bit chaotic when you don't make it on all masts. And I think the flag should wave in the opposite direction. Outside of those things I really like it
  2. Please either stay on topic or say nothing. This is a LEGO forum in the first place so keep it a bit more LEGO related
  3. That's very nice and original. Are you going to build this in real? Shouldn't the cannon platforms be a bit bigger though? There's often a considerable reversive power..
  4. We did have a game like that in the past. But it was quite difficult and time consuming. Therefore it didn't work, but it looked quite awesome Here is the game thread, and here the discussion. Perhaps it's a useful source for inspiration. But you'll have to do it better otherwise it won't work
  5. Okay, case closed then.
  6. I think this is the best choice. Here you can buy 20 shakos for 10 Euro (and that's the min. buy), and brand new. That will be slightly more in pounds, and indeed the postage costs too, but it sounds like a good deal to me.
  7. I'm certainly pleased with this new stern! And the rigging looks great too! I think this is going to be a very accurate model once finished. Perhaps a bit strange that the side window is bigger than the stern windows, but outside of that it's Keep it up!
  8. Beautiful MOC! Even though the topic isn't unique, the elaboration is excellent Everywhere in this MOC you can spot nice details and I like how it's crowded with monkeys. Good job!
  9. While it's okay to ask for more pirate MOCs, your statement about "no real pirates" is incorrect. There are at least 6 pirate MOCs on the first page now, of which a few are pirate ships. Also, I can spot only three army topics on the first page, about 5 Napoleonic and a few Islander MOCs. IMO that's a nice variety of MOCs. I think only pirates is very specific and a pirate ship isn't very different from another sailing ship, except for the flag. And a pirates life would be mixed within the life of the 17th or 18th century, so why not make those MOCs too? Even TLG mixes those two factions within the pirates theme. When I look at the first page I don't see less Pirate MOCs than other themed MOCs. And if we would do only pirates, I'm afraid there would hardly be any need to have it in a seperate forum due to the small number of MOCs.. That's how I feel about it
  10. Well your ship isn't really based on one real ship is it?So if you take measurements from HMS Trincomalee or USS Constitution, I think it will look good. Or you keep the current height of your masts and just use one of these as measurements.
  11. That's an original story, and funny too Even though it's a bit strange.. I like the cheeses in the windows, and you did a good job on the photography. Well done. I'm looking forward to the next part.
  12. The whipstaff was in an enclosed space, except for a small hole as you can see here. But I can't find that hole either so perhaps you're right and it doesn't have a whipstaff. In that case I wonder what it could be... Anyway, on to the model You did a very nice job on the stern decorations I really like the golden fishes and mini-minifig. Your gunport design is also nice. If you were to make this in real, perhaps you could make a slight curve in the red gunport line, but I have nothing else to complain. Keep it up!
  13. In the late 17th century most ships didn't have a ship's wheel. They had a so-called whipstaff: On image D and E you can see it. The reason why you can't see it on the model is because the whipstaff was below the deck (D). Also, your ship is currently more looking like a frigate from the 1750's, so wouldn't it be better to choose a different reference ship? Perhaps the Whydah(1715) or La Sirène(1755)?
  14. [pid][/pid]200A Our News Scout SirSven7 has found a number of good MOCs again, and this is one of them. Note (among other things) the banana trees, the splashing water and the face in the rock. More images can be found here on Hardegon's Brickshelf page. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  15. I saw this on Flickr yesterday and was surprised that there were no comments on it. It's a very nice MOC. I like the mermaid aquarium (although it looks very modern), the minifigs and how you made this ship wreck tavern. The images are also nice, good work on the photo-editing from the top image. Excellent. I hope to see more MOCs from you
  16. This is coming along nicely! I like the colourscheme and the brown slopes on the bottom look great as well The bow is the most important thing you should work on IMO. Take this image as an example. As you can see, the top of the figurehead is almost at the same height as the top of the bulwark. And the part where the figurehead is attached too, has a very different shape. But I think it will be quite a challenge when you make it a single stud prow. Perhaps it's easier to make it 2 studs. also for attaching a figurehead. In either case, good luck!
  17. You've made some excellent progress! Although I'm usually not very fond of black masts, it really suits this ship. Perhaps it's because the rest of the ship is so realistic, then the black looks realistic too. I'm not sure about the yards though. Perhaps you should make them longer. Otherwise, the main and fore sail will get this shape instead of this. And you could make the mastheads look more like this: So you'll have the big square block on top of the masthead instead of in the middle. Good luck!
  18. Hee Henk! Hoe is 't?

  19. Yeah perhaps you could also try other bricks instead of the chairs, but the bird's eye view is great
  20. I think it's actually a bit too large, but on the other hand, 2x2 would make it too small. And this design is great. Perhaps you could try 3x3 on jumper plates but I guess that will be very difficult. So in that case I'd go for 4x4. It doesn't look bad. Can you show us a picture of the capstan with a bigger part of the ship?
  21. Justindale, please don't quote long stories like that. Rather click the "Add Reply" button in this case. Or otherwise, shorten the story like I now did for you. Thanks in forward
  22. Happy Birthday! Drink lots of Jupiler Enough motorcycles around here, I'll do a ship giving a salute.
  23. You could make it in white, but I think it also depends a bit on the period in which your ship would be sailing around. Before 1800, white was very rare on British ships (if it existed at all). USS Constitution was originally painted yellow, and Trincomalee was launched only in 1817. So if you're going for a British frigate before, let's say 1805, make it yellow, otherwise white is okay if you ask me.
  24. Foremast Jack, you make excellent comments, but if you reply to the post above yours, please don't quote. In that case it's obvious on what post you reply and you don't get every post twice Kurigan, that's very clever. I used the same things as the image in FJ's post, but wheels are nice too. I learned from the Vesta that it's indeed very time consuming, but the result is
  25. Ah now I get what you mean, it's the beam you can see here right behind the mizzen. It's called snauwmast in Dutch but I don't know the English name. Well I think you don't need to add that one. Trincomalee and Surprise didn't have one and as far as I know it wasn't normal for British frigates to have one in 1800. It was quite common for (Dutch) brigs to have one, but I don't know any British frigate with this mast.
