  1. Thanks! To me, this set's only draw is the mini-figures, and that's not quite enough for me to plunk down $20. I've never been a fan of Lego boats, so 70% of this set doesn't appeal to me. Although, no matter my opinion, this set is obviously a great deal for Superhero collectors. Like Ceroknight said above, this is a steal. Lego seems to be doing a great job at getting nice Superhero sets in the $20-$30 range, and this is no exception. Thank you Solscud007 for the review! I know it's nothing more than pictures, but it's very helpful never the less. The mini-figures are fantastic, and I can't help liking each of these guys more and more the more I see them. Maybe, just maybe, if this goes on sale.... (Ya'll should know by now that I love sales. )
  2. Comparing the two figures, I'd say that TLG kinda messed up Dooku. Having the same heads for the characters is a neat idea in theory, and while it looks great on Saruman, it doesn't look that great for Dooku. The eyebrows are too big for him, and the grin is just..... And to get things back to LOTR, I am super-excited for this upcoming wave. We get an amazing Saruman, a White Gandalf, a Gondor armored Aragorn, Dead Solders, Mouth of Sauron, a PJ Corsair, Ect... Some great locations, and all of them are fantastic looking builds. My only gripes with the wave are these: #1, Why only four? Seriously, why? #2, Why do the Pirate ship? It's a great set, and would be fantastic for a later wave, but with only four sets, and just now Wave #2, this wasn't the best choice that they could have made. (I'd rather a smaller Paths of the Dead set, and saving the biggest set more something more recognizable.) #3, The eagle. 'Nuff said. (The design looks very simplistic, it can't grab people, and I'd much rather it's spot be filled with more minifigures.) Still, with all of my gripes, I still think that this is a fantastic wave. May not get the Ship for price reasons, but the rest are sure purchases.
  3. Hmm, I was straying to the cautious side and tried to change my password, but got this message: So.....Help? Seems I am one of the victims, sadly enough, but thankfully other than the password issue there doesn't seem to be any damage. I asked this on the BL forums, but was also wondering if any of ya'll could help. EDIT: Turns out that was done by the admin to prevent the hacker from changing everybody's passwords. And they're working on getting everything back up, so no more worries. And if you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend following just2good's advice about changing your password. Due to the above, you can't change your passwords anymore, but everything should be fixed soon. (Thanks by the way, had you not said that, I never would have found out about this.)
  4. Not bad! I think one thing that would really improve it is adding some 1X2 grill tiles using SNOT to the side right behind the window. That area just looks a bit too plain and detail-less right now. I'd also try adding some sort of texture to the front grill. Perhaps by attaching a fence piece, or perhaps by switching those bricks out for 1X2 Grill bricks. The bed could use a large plate or two to cover all the hollow studs, and then a 4X4 turntable base to give a cool, but functional, look. The bricks used to hold the axles stick out quite a bit, so adding a few inverted slopes would not only smooth that out, but it would also give you a chance to add more dark red to the back. I know it's a WIP, but it still looks pretty good. Are you planning also on building it physically, or will it remain digital?
  5. Hmm, War Machine looks pretty nice. Thanks for the pic! Sadly, that set (76006) only has two exclusive figures, and that's not quite enough to get me looking that way. After all, just how many Iron Men do I really need? May I take a moment to say that the third picture for that set, (On the Shop At Home page) is utterly hilarious! And Tony's devilish grin only adds to effect. Anyway, while I'm impatiently waiting for the Malibu Mansion to go on sale somewhere and give me a good excuse to buy it, I saw this typo on the Shop at Home page: Please note, attach, not attack. I wonder how long it'll take 'em to fix it. Finally, is somebody planning on making reviews for the two remaining IM3 sets? I'd like to hear and see more before writing them off permanently, and detailed reviews have always helped with that choice.
  6. Now that is cool! I'll admit it, I'm partial to Lego's "Dark" colors, (Dark Red, Dark blue, and especially Dark Green.) and the yellow really helps to compliment the color choice. All of those wonderful curves make everything just flow together, and the shape itself is quite original and cool. While it can't be seen very well at these angles, the yellow stripe between the two halves is a great touch, as well as the '1" hinting at it's being part of a larger fleet. Do you have pictures of the rear engines? I can see the 1X1 rounds, but it'd be nice to see what this looks like from the back. Alfred is neat, and the color-scheme yet again lends itself perfectly to the concept. I'd say that the gray mask kinda sticks out on the figure, but then again, a full yellow face wouldn't look right either. So unless you want to try a fleshie head, that mask is probably your best choice. You've done quite well, can't wait to see the next one. (And yes, please go with Dark Blue/Yellow!)
  7. EDIT: Oh, sorry, didn't notice that it hasn't been active. Sorry for the bump for little reason. I'll try to be more careful in the future. Please forgive this poor newbie, at least this once. Iron Man Vs. The Mandarin Ultimate Showdown, (76008) is already discounted to USD $10.92. $2 ain't much, but every bit counts. http://www.amazon.co...&pf_rd_i=507846
  8. Thanks Captain Nemo for the great review! If I wasn't sold on this set before, I am now. I'll probably try to pick this set on sale, but even if I have to pay full price, it'll still be worth it. A good, generic female torso, lots of great hair pieces, all the main IM3 characters, and some cool explode-y things....Come on, what's there not to like? (Other than the chopper. ) For a first review, this is fantastic, are you sure you haven't been secretly doing these for years and just not posting them?
  9. Hello! Have you tried Bricklink.com yet? That's probably your best option for those parts. How close are you to a Lego store? They sometimes have those parts in the Pick-a-Brick wall, but you'll only be able to fit so many in a cup. (But then you could stuff the rest of the cup up with other needful pieces.)
  10. I may have older, but the the oldest one that I can think of off the top of my head is this: 6571 Flame Fighters My collection could be compared to the symbol " < " if it was placed on a timeline. Starting with a handful from the '90's, more and more through the '00's, and then exploding in the '10s. So yeah, I don't have any old sets, but they're old to me, and that's all that matters.
  11. Bofur, simply because of the hat. After that, probably Dwalin. (I like green.) And then a tie between the "Santa Clause" Balin, and the "Friar Tuck" Bombur. Least favorite would be Gloin, his hair/beard piece is big, a bit ugly, and seems to be a grade below the rest. (Poor guy. )
  12. And the glorious GRogall strikes again! Looking at the sets and prices, I'll probably end up getting just the Cavalry Builder. Which having a horse, four great and reusable figures, and a cannon for a measly $12 or so is simply irresistible. The Camp isn't as impressive, and the use of a shiny plastic-y paper as the tent fabric is a bit annoying. But I can certainly see why everybody is raving over the Stagecoach, three horses, great detailing, five beautiful figures, and all for 30 bucks. I may pick this one up on sale, but I've got too much Lego on my "must buy" list as it is. Colby City is good, but I just can't do another larger scale set this year. Especially from a theme that I'm not that into. Silver Mine, just look at all the delicious dark tan... Amazon had better not put that on sale. I'm not into trains, so the Constitution Train Chase doesn't appeal to me, but I can sure see the quality of the set. Bottom line, all these sets show the growing trend of more detailed prints and builds, a tread that I love to say the least. It's just a good thing I'm not a Lone Ranger fan, or my wallet would be screaming!
  13. Nicely done! It's a very solid MOC overall. The color-scheme combined with a large amount of SNOT/Tiles gives it a striking, sleek, and very Sci-Fi look. My eyes were brought almost immediately to the Segway, which is a nice, compact, and very good design. But the main attraction is obviously the truck.....Which is something I wouldn't mind driving around myself. Do you have pictures of the other side? I'm interested in what the driver's side door looks like. If I were to offer up a few nit-picks, they would be the pushed-out side door section, and the ladder going down the front of the truck. Usually symmetrical designs appeal more to my tastes, but truthfully, this is too good of a model for that to matter much.
  14. Very, very impressive! The various building techniques and creative parts usages are simply stunning. I really like the different "look" for each bug, the cloth/rough rubber for the butterfly, the smooth SNOT-filled Millipede, and the long, thin, fragile look of the Walking Stick. Close-ups of all the bugs would be highly appreciated, as that last picture just doesn't do justice to the remaining models. You have done an amazing job with these, and should be quite proud.
  15. No, I'm not posing as an alien from outer-space, I just had to come up with a title that didn't make use of the word "Hello." Anyway, I've been a long time lurker, (Two years or so) and finally decided to join this wonderful community. So, first of all I'm a devout Christian, and beyond that, I'm a hopelessly addicted FOL, an avid brickfilmer, an obsessed LOTR/Hobbit fan, a fairly dedicated Doctor Who fan, and a general fan of most superheroes. I also live in the USA. I've been into Lego all of my life, but have just recently begun to hoard heavily invest in Lego. My favorite themes would be LOTR/Hobbit, followed by Superheroes, and then Sci-Fi. But I've got a soft-spot toward any licensed theme with good looking mini-figures, and really, I'll buy just about anything if the price is right. Contrary to the impression that my username gives off, while I like Steampunk MOCs, and am curently working on a Steampunk brickfilm, I really only picked that 'cuz it sounds cool. (To me at least) My hobbies don't extend too far outside of Brickfilming/Lego stuff and keeping up with all the latest DW and LOTR news. I don't really play any video games, with, again, the exception of anything by Lego. Probably won't be posting too much, or entering any contests, (The former because I'm trying not to spend all day posting about Lego and instead actually getting around to MOCing, and the latter because I know I'll get smoked every single time.) But I am planning on sharing an upcoming series of MOCs with you guys. As a disclaimer, while I have lurked here a while, I don't have everything quite figured out, so don't hesitate to point out my mistakes. I also tend (On other forums) to post quite lengthy posts, so be prepared for a lot of reading. I'll try to get an avatar and sig uploaded as soon as I can, and do my best to abide by all the rules and regulations on the site. Thanks to all the guys responsible for providing this site for all of us FOLs! SteampunkDoc P.S. I also have a tendency to add thoughts to a post and/or revise the text after it has been made public. It's generally because I think of the good stuff to say only after I've hit "Post", but I'm trying to break that habit. Sorry if it causes confusion.
