Try this: Now that I've had time to study it, here are my thoughts: That opening shot of the mountain looks great, and all these wide landscape shots blow my mind. I wasn't expecting Beorn to show up, and that was a nice surprise. The elves fortress looks great, being a less subdued, more wild version of Lothlórien. I'm sure that the CGI gets better in the final movie, as it stands out a bit here. But most importantly, Smaug is revealed!!! Well, his head at least. AUJ gave some sense of his size, but compared to poor Bilbo, Smaug is HUGE. I kinda wish he was only hinted at again, and left mainly for the movie, but as it is, he's.....not what I was expecting. I'm not sold on the mouth shape, but will get used to it. And he doesn't really stand out from any other dragon of recent years/movies, but that being said, this only only one short clip. Between PJ, Weta Digital, and Benedict Cumberbatch, we will definitely get us a dragon that will be remembered for years to come. Basically, this looks to be an even bigger spectacle than AUJ, with more "roller-coaster" type moments, and more action. I just hope that doesn't mean small character moments and slower scenes aren't neglected.

*BUMP* First 'The Desolation of Smaug' teaser trailer. OH MY GOODNESS.......I think I'm just going to melt into a puddle of pure joy and happiness. There's a lot of CGI people and stuff, but the imagery is spectacular, and I can't wait to see this in 48FPS. December, get here now!

Instantly recognizable, fantastic detailing, great features, Steampunk....Yep, it's a great MOC. You've done a great job with this, and it looks great. It seems just a bit on the narrow side in that first picture, but that's only a minor issue. The propeller's placement was a creative and brilliant idea, and this reminds me that I need to get some of those ice cream pieces. I'd love to see a minifigure scale version, but this one will be hard to beat.

Man of Steel clips: #1, #2, #3, #5. OK, that's it. This looks amazing. And Clip #4 looks even more incredible than the rest.

Thanks! The Statue was a bit difficult, and this being my first work in mini-scale didn't help much. But King Kong was certainly a must....Even though I've never seen any of the movies. I'm glad ya'll liked it, and thanks again for the comments.

Found this on my computer today, apparently I've never shared this anywhere before. Created in LDD, and rendered in POV-RAY. I'm sure the scaling between the buildings is all off, but when it comes down to it, I'm quite proud of this little thing. The city that never sleeps, good ole' New York. Hope ya'll like it! Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
SteampunkDoc replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
While it is possible for the Hurt Doctor to take Series 8, and it be his adventures in the Time War, I find that very improbable. (I doubt he will/would be doing much out side of it.) For one, Clara is staying on board, so if would have to switch to an echo. Second, Moffat said the following: So it has be be a new guy. Third, I don't they will ever show more than glimpses of the Time War. But, that's all based on one line from a known deceiver, and my own speculation. Although I can't help but feel that the Hurt Doctor will be a one or two time deal, and that the show will promptly move on. Sadly, Smith will not be going out on a two-parter, and with his next to last episode being shared with two other Doctors, we really won't be seeing that much more of him. I am eagerly awaiting his last two outings, and can't wait to find out who is playing Twelve. It would be nice if Eleven went out suddenly, without knowing it was coming, and by something other than radiation. Not something as simple as a gun wound, but maybe a Dalek beam. Ten had an unknown amount of time before it even started, ("Knock four times") and even afterwards he got to go around to all of his buddies before kicking the bucket. Nine had much less time, and was only able to give Rose a vague warning or what was to come. Thing is, Clara already knows all about his regen cycle, so he wouldn't need to tell her before passing. I'm thinking something akin to the fake regen in The Stolen Earth. -
Hmmm, you don't mind a suggestion or sixteen do you? First, I think this would make a nice comic series, and making it into a comic page would really help with the formatting and help get things "Cleaner and neater." I get that you want to build up to the tip, but it might almost be better to place that at the top, as a sort of title thing. Also, the tips seem to be getting more and more implausible and wild, are they building up to something, or is it just because you think those are more funny? They're fine, but having a few more realistic ones thrown in probably wouldn't hurt. Also, the pictures seem really, really big, and between that, and the uneven text/pics balance, the pacing suffers considerably. Thoughts are divided by pictures, text explains what the pictures should be showing, and the story is really told only by the text. A better interrelation between the two would really help the cohesiveness of the presentation. The sorta fourth-wall stuff doesn't add much to the story, and in fact takes the readers out of the tale. May I suggest trying at least one tip without all of the "Curious about the picture" type statements? Looking at the camera angles, there isn't much variety. They're all above the set angled downwards. Perhaps adding some more dramatic angles, and interesting posing would help the overall quality. And I'm not purposing change just for changes sake, and you're free to take any or all of this advice that you like, but if you have several more tips, it might be nice to experiment with some different formats. Savvy? The concept itself is interesting, and could make for a great parody type series, but the presentation seems just a bit lackluster if you know what I mean.

Ha, nice model. I guess they're Quarto, but they seem too big to even that. And something just not quite right with the Robin fellow, if only I could find out what.
-
Oh, wow...That looks amazing. I'm quite impressed with all the tilted and randomly placed stone work on the side, it gives off a ruined feel that matches the location perfectly. The pillars, arches, and upper part of the MOC are fantastic. And very parts-intensive. The way you achieved the sloped effect in the tower floor is a great idea, and all the SNOT really pays off with the final look. All the different tree techniques create a sense of variety and 'wild-ness'. And there's just so much to gush over I'd better stop typing before I explode.

What was the last movie you watched?
SteampunkDoc replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Well....I had a several paragraph review typed up with cool quotes and everything, and then hit backspace and the whole thing got erased as I went 'back' to my last webpage. After popping back forward, everything was gone, not backed up, and not auto-saved. So whatever. This is all you get now, as I don't want to type the whole thing all over again. Just blame Google and their stupid hot keys. Star Trek Into Darkness (Spoiler-free) It was cool, and my first venture into Star Trek. A pathetic theater didn't hurt the film one bit, and it was nice to see Benedict Cumberbatch being incredible amazing. It was also a nice surprise to see Noel Clarke in this. (Mickey Smith in Doctor Who) I didn't note any major flaws, although the pacing at times felt off. Some non-essential elements went a bit long, but at the same time the essential elements were giving plenty of time. It covered a lot of story, and felt a bit long at times, but overall didn't feel that drawn out. Spock was cool, but John Harrison stole the show. Benedict was stellar, and if 'Sherlock' hadn't already done it, this would have surly shot him into fame. No major complains, which is unusual with me, but what few there are I'm not going to elaborate on. It did have more cursing than I'm used to, but at least the lens flares weren't as bad as I expected. The ending was a bit....Interesting. But you'll just have to see it to find out why. -
I don't know about GL. Ryan Reynolds has not expressed much desire to reprise the role, and because of the total flop of the film, they may just treat it like the 2003 Hulk. Still, time will tell. Also, how would the timelines work? Didn't they say in GL that that whats-his-name was the very first alien ever encountered? How would that mesh with Superman's being there for several years already? In other news, I saw the newest trailer for MoS in the theater today, and it's a whole lot better looking there than here online. So now I'm even more excited, and can't wait to go see it.

HaHa! Yeah, I've heard that the One has several crippling flaws, but regardless, it was an entertaining short. The set is a bit basic on the walls, but the windows do help. I would suggest adding a light gray stripe in there somewhere, as that would match the great floor, and break up all that yellow. The One is nice and complex/bulky, but the shot at 0:06 went by a bit too quickly to really see what it looked like. That shot should have been extended a second or two. Good job on the walk cycle on tiles, that's really hard to do, and I've only seen it done well a handful of times. That shot does have a lot of light-flicker, so you may want to double check that all of your lighting settings are on manual. Later on, the animation could use a bit more easing in/out, there's a bit of flicker, and the camera bumps several times, but there are some good points. I love the use of a flash-light to simulate the action on-screen. I've always been a fan of in-camera effects, and I'm glad you went with that option. The controller design is nice and simple, but very effective. The dialogue is nice, the main character's mic could have been better quality, but that's it. 'Mom's' voice was not-female sounding though. Perhaps using a male minifigure would have been a better idea. The story's building up makes things get pretty funny at the end, but the humor is tainted with horror as the truth isn't too far away. That first pan was a bit choppy and bounced a bit, and the camera never changes angles, so those two are some things you could easily work on and fix. It was entertaining for sure, but had a few technical flaws. Still, they're nothing that a bit of practice won't fix! In fact, here are two Tutorials/Lessons I wrote on making good brick flicks, so maybe you can get some additional help from those. Part 1 Part 2

Great topic idea! I'm horrible at ranking things, but here are the ten I really like: #1, Clark Kent (Ripped Shirt) #2, Tony Stark #3, Mark 42 Suit #4, Two-Face (Orange/Purple) #5, Green Lantern #6, Lois Lane #7, Lex Luther (Green Armor) #8, General Zod (Armor) #9, Pepper Potts #10, Batman (Blue/Light Gray) Of course, the above are only of the figures I own. Of the ones I don't own here is my "Coolest of all" list: #1. Phoenix #2. Jor-El #3. Batman (Black TDKR Suit) #4. Joker (In-mate) #5. Batman (Gray TDKR Suit) Really, beyond those, there aren't any stand-out figures that I don't already have. The Ultimate Spider-Man aesthetic ruins most of the Marvel minifigures for me, and the rest just aren't that "cool". DC has a few more that I'd like to own that aren't on the above list, but most I either have, or just don't like the design that much.

LEGO Batman The Movie DC Super Heroes United.
SteampunkDoc replied to DarthSion's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Not knowing a better place to post this, here is my comprehensive review of LEGO: Batman The Movie Movie review: Uggg, them starting credits go on forever! It’s an odd way to start out the thing, beginning with the “Death” of our heroes. But it doesn’t hold much suspense as anybody who has played the game will know what happens next. The animation and quality are a lot better than the videogame version, and the uninterrupted pacing is a lot more enjoyable. While some people may not feel the same way, I feel that the non-stop jokes/humor becomes a bit redundant. They just didn't stop long enough to allow much drama to build up. It’s also a bit weird to see some of the longest levels reduced to scenes of only a few minutes. The Robin/Batman/Superman relationship is more annoying this time around, and at times the game’s storyline is a bit better. The extra bits are quite enjoyable, and help tell the story in a more complete manner that viewing just the cut scenes. The world is obviously the same model as the video game, which is a bit too small and tight for a movie-verse. While it was expansive and great for an open-world hub, it just doesn't work here. I love all the “in-jokes” like the “Robin will call himself Batman,” as they give serious comics fans something to laugh at in the midst of all the character mocking moments. (Robin's immaturity, Lex's stupidity, Ect...) It’s nice, but goes by fairly quickly, and could use a few more minutes of runtime. Other Stuff: (Packaging, bonus features, Ect...) Bottom Line: I recommend getting the set, if for no other reason than the great minifigure. The movie won’t last more than a single watch, but it’s got some enjoyable moments and bonus features. Don’t be turned off by the cheap case and poor menus, as it’s not a huge feature film, and it’s fairly inexpensive. -
Hehehe.... It's simple, funny, and sad. All at the same time. I enjoyed it a lot, although I wish there was a bit more in the set/MOC realm. It would make a nice comic though. *hint, hint* (Note to others, go to his photostream and finish the story. It gets even better later on.)

Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
SteampunkDoc replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Don't do it! I was so glad that I went into TNOTD without being spoiled. It was way better that way. You must resist the temptation. As for two-parters, that was a rubbish choice. Two parters are great, (In moderation) and help give a change of pace and a breath of fresh air. They allow a lot more development, and most of my favorite episodes are two parters. (Pandorica/Empty Child/Impossible Astronaut/Bad Wolf/Forest of the Dead) Two per season is a great balance I think, but after all of the inter-connected-Timey-Wimey-ness of Series 6, it was nice to just plop down for a few stand-alone shows. At least they didn't go to the other extreme with a serialized format like the Classic Series. -
Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
SteampunkDoc replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
BrickG, the regeneration limit is not really valid anymore due to several things: #1, Most agree that this was a limit set in law by the Time Lords, and not a physical limit. (Or something similar like 12 is a real limit, but easy to get around with the tech of the day, so extending the number of lives was outlawed.) #2, It's established that the Time Lords can offer people new sets of regeneration, and it was very likely that they did so a lot in the Time War. #3, River gave up all of hers to the Doctor. (Although nobody is quite sure if he got them, or if they were just all used up at once and nobody got any of them.) #4, While might make a fun storyline, there's no doubt that an easy work around will be found once the time comes to re-cast. I'm not sure if the partial regens count, and what happens when he just uses some of it. Mr. Man, Ceroknight, Does that answer any questions? -

Spoiler-free review of: THE NAME OF THE DOCTOR Whoa...I'm speechless...That was so amazing, and the ending was just so....Squeee!!! I won't say much, but it's a must see, and got me extremely hyped for the 50th special. Basically, it answers some questions well, leaves others alone, and throws in a huge earth-shattering reveal at the end. It solves the Clare arc brilliantly, includes some great bonuses for classic fans, and wraps up this series quite nicely. Whatever you may or may not think of this series, you've got to watch this one. It's fantastic. And that's all for now. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
SteampunkDoc replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Eh, I'm not sure that'll solve the problem. I think it would be best for them to release the results on each set/idea as they come in. That way people don't wait several months only to be told that their project conflicts with a current license, when that information could have been announced shortly after the review began. I understand that wrangling licenses and getting rights/permissions can take a while, but there's no need to hold back the other sets on account of one lawyer who forgets to email back for several weeks. It shouldn't be that hard to narrow things down a bit early on, or even find a way to streamline/speed up the process. But hey, I'm not in charge, and this horse has been beaten to death many times over already. We're truly lucky to have this even as it is, and it's a great blessing/gift to fans even in this beta state. -
