Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
Meatman replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
OOP Black technic bushings used to be a very rare piece, then all of a sudden a German seller magically has 5,000 of them and then another German seller has 1,000+ -

It is an astonishing model, but not quite build in a Lego style fashion. -
Porsche 'Inner' Workings

It seems to me that to properly execute what you are thinking that the model needs to be larger in scale that Lego makes wheels for. This may explain why you do not see them as much. The smaller the scale obviously the less important that it is to some builders(including the Lego design team) to worry about being as realistic to a model as possible. Because in the end, no one is going to get anything perfect. -
Porsche 997 GT3

CooI model! Funny thing as I was just looking at new pics at brickshelf and notice this 997 also in Red and Black. Obviously the wheels were painted though. -
New 6 hole rims at 42000 and 9398

I just took advantage of the buy one get on 1/2 off at Toys R Us and picked up 2 crawlers and one had the old wheels and one had the new style wheels. They are so much nicer. -
This is so cool. I've seen this before and never knew that it was yours. Great job. I always thought the small tires for grips was a genius idea.

My first studless MOC
Meatman replied to Meisseli's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good Job! Studless building isn't easy. -
Licensed by who? It looks like the same dark blue color that is in other sets. There is no outside car company attached to this, so I don't see what the big deal is. They did the same thing with the Unimog saying that the orange parts were not allowed to be purchased because they were licensed by Mercedes. That I can almost understand since Mercedes was involved. The licensed orange coloed parts was the same orange that Lego had always used. Lego already screwed up the purchasing procedures for the 41999 by letting scalpers buy up over 1/2 of the inventory, so the least they can do is make available the parts so that anyone that has a crawler can change it if they want.

From what I have heard from a member on here was that only the Blue 5 x 11 panels were available. I don't know why Lego is making a big deal out of the blue and silver parts. They say they are licensed. Licensed by who??? Lego?

To be honest, I think the chances of it getting 10,000 are going to be very difficult. If not for the scalpers, everyone who wants the 41999 set would have one. Submitting a set to Cuusoo that already exists is kind of pointless. Lego is well aware of the situation with the 41999. All they need to do is make the parts available through their website.

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Meatman replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Lego Technic team will be working overtime redesigning the Landrover to meet their criteria. I broke down and got the instructions and started to build it, and there is no way that it comes close to the way that actual Lego models are built. Not that it is a bad thing, but certainly things would have to be omitted from it which is what helped get it the support in the first place. The main things that got the Landrover it's supports was the fact that it drives and has a a transmission, but sadly, there is no way Lego could release this model in it's current state there is just too much of the possibilities of things failing. You are talking about a whole redesign and I don't see it happening very quickly. The Technic designers spend a long time on their flagship models. I don't think we'll ever see any models of this size ever making it. Especially ones this complex. -
Do you and Eric have any plans for instructions? I can't quite see what you have going on the for front/rear steering and I am a bit lost with some of the body. I really want to try this chassis out and make an effort to add a cool body to it. Thanks Paul, I grabbed 2 sets from them.

I don't know how you can write off the addition of a reverse gear so easily(not to mention the addition of the 5th gear) The driving ring extension and bevel gears that were introduced in this set went on to revolutionize the way that people would build transmissions and gearboxes for the next 14+ years. And like someone said on the previous page, when you look at the 8448 and compare it to the 8880 from a visual standpoint, it's not even close. It is like comparing a silk slipper to an old work boot. I think that visual appearance is just as important as the number of functions when talking about realism.

The one thing that I did like in the SSS compared to the 8880 was the 10L damped shock absorbers for opening the doors/roof. The SSS felt more like a car to me than the 8880. The 8880 seemed more like an all terrain/dune buggy type vehicle because of the massive body and lack of doors(which also helped to stiffen the body). I really don't think the SSS was that far behind the 8880. The SSS had some neat things going on. It is still amazing to me that the 8880 had less parts than the SSS.
