  1. I just relooked at my version of The Legend Reborn, and it turns out that I have a different version of this ad, which is presumably an older version of it. It's shorter, in a more dramatic style, and lacks any voice-over or characters talking. At the end, instead of The Adventures of Clutch Powers in a fancy logo, it's called The LEGO adventures, in plain red font. Unfortunately, there aren't any scenes in it that I spotted that weren't in your later version.
  2. I'm pretty sure that the stereotypical personalities of the Toa Mata have existed since before Greg wrote for them, and I doubt that he's the only person who has a say in what each new character will be like. Despite me wanting more interesting characters too, BIONICLE story is written to sell toys to kids, so it's not trying to give us the Da Vinci Code.
  3. That reminds me of Gunnar's Hey-Guys Mata Nui drawing. Only worse, because they're humans.
  4. Yeah, this project kinda died, seeing as 2010 isn't folding out anynear near we had hoped. Maybe if we switch the focus of the project though, we might feel more inclined to work on it?
  5. Typo on my part, should be all the limitations put on Elemental powers. Many potential things that a Toa of Magnetism or Electricity could do have been turned down because kids wouldn't understand it. However, Greg has introduced many complicated powers for Kanohi, such as Clairvoyance and Psychometry, so I often find myself thinking that the Kid-can't-follow-it is just an excuse for convenience.
  6. True, but so many great story possibilities have been left because kids supposedly wouldn't be able to cope. One of the main ones that comes to mind for me is all the limitations but on Elemental powers, simply because it would be getting "too scientific".
  7. At the risk of throwing all canon and characters we love out the window? There are always small things that can be disliked about Greg, but overall, he's done great for BIONICLE, has worked hard to please us older fans on multiple occasions, and respects the original characters. For the duration of MU related storyline, I definitely want Greg to stay, rather than risking someone else who could do much worse stuff than anything that he's done. On the flip-side though, if BIONICLE starts a fresh saga completely unrelated to the MU, I wouldn't mind a different main writer to introduce a new style, like how the comic illustrators change frequently with their own styles. The only problem is that BIONICLE story will never be quite what we'd like it to be, because it's written with the constraint that an 8 year old must be able to follow it.
  8. I think it's either the axle used in Zamor launchers, or the axle used along with a piston for Titan limb supports. Most likely the latter. In the actual photos, Skrall seems to be taking advantage of some lovely black/lime marbles Av-arms. The lime double connectors for the should armour are also in a new colour, which I welcome.
  9. Well said, but Skrall has the new feet too, and Taka's pieces are still comparatively more boring than all the other new sets, except possibly Vezok, depending on how you feel about the new Piraka spine.
  10. Were'd you get them from them?
  11. Judging by the pictures you have, Amazon then? I just didn't realize that the pictures there were that big.
  12. That's only new to BIONICLE, but it's been in other sets. I've got a couple of them.
  13. On the bright side, you get more money for spending on other LEGO, or saving for the summer sets.
  14. Gahgahgah, the mask is recolored in the newer silver! I'm losing this war.. As is the staff I think.
  15. I often find it surprising how many AFOLs actually buy BIONICLE sets, they just don't admit it. Thanks for the great review Striker! This was the first Legends set that I got, and it's got some great parts, and it's Mata Nui, despite the awkward proportions. It's a bit sad that it's a yellow-orange set instead of gold, but it's understandable from a designer's perspective.
  16. I think the gold pieces only provide armour for Tahu, so you can't build an additional figure and still have Tahu as normal. ... Which means I'm probably going to get 2 Tahu sets.
  17. Where did it originally come from though? I wasn't aware that the Amazon listing for the GN had such a high resolution picture like that.
  18. Instead of BIONICLE canisters this season, they've got Ben 10 Canisters. Although they've lost on sale from older people like us, the primary target audience of BIONICLE will probably gobble up those sets, because they love Ben 10 too. I for one will be getting all the Stars, and maybe a multiple or two for the pieces if the prices aren't too forbidding.
  19. While Google Translate isn't 100% reliable, we have that, 80 Dollar who I trust and now Wout's confirmation, so we should be satisfied that the statement is true. What it means though, is still up for interpretation. IMO it's better than continuing in Bara Magna, never returning to the MU for years, and when we do, having a poorly detailed conclusion because newer fans wouldn't know the story that happened 15 years ago. At the best, 2010 could conclude the BIONICLE saga of Makuta's plan and takeover, and use some key characters and the universe for the setting of the new saga. I loved the elemental powers, but they were overused and pretty much just force blasts. I'd love it if they limited the elemental power, and came up with more inventive and relevant ways of using them.
  20. Do the little green aliens come in other sets? I'd rather not have to get three of the big Buzz just to get all three aliens.
  21. Hopefully it doesn't, because the rock monster is exactly the same, only with different colours. It would be nice to get the recoloured crystal/rock parts, but not in the form of a simple recolour.
  22. No, he's the confirmation that some people need, who somehow doubt the authenticity of the Czech website. Bear in mind guys that it seems to say BIONICLE saga will end, not line/theme, which means that simply this story will close properly and the line will be rebooted. However, even if the BIONICLE line does end completely, it will be replaced by something with a different name, but a similar premise, in depth story and almost exactly the same pieces. It's what happened with the Throwbots and Roboriders when they replaced themselves and were replaced by BIONICLE. Either way, storyline fans will finally have conclusion, and MOCists won't have to worry about a lack of future BIONICLE(esc) sets/pieces.
  23. According to Greg in the BZP talkback thread, RotGB will now lead into a 2010 Graphic Novel, which explains the purpose of the Red Star and how it was made. Due to changes in the storyline plan, it's possible that the valley of the maze will no longer be the subject of next year, so it could be dealt with in this serial and whatever continues it.
  24. Poor rock monsters! I seriously doubt that the Power Miner's mission is now to extinguish the Earth's core, so it seems that the water blasters are used primarily to extinguish the cute little rock monsters. The fact that the Power Miners have specifically replaced the mining gear of their entire range of lava-proof vehicles with rock monster extinguishers just adds damage to the injury. They've even built a prison to contain the bigger rock monsters for the time required to put them out! I seriously love the new sets though, as it's a very appropriate advancement for the theme that actually continues the storyline in an interesting way. The new rock monsters will definitely make me get the smaller sets, although I might Bricklink the monsters and useful parts from the larger sets if their prices are too high. I do hope that next year doesn't feature the Power Miners with rock monster containment pods, in order to drain their energy...That might be taking the rock monster cruelty too far.
  25. The bulky toros and head pieces are a disappointment, but I suspect that there's more useful parts underneath. I'll probably get at least one of these sets, because they contain at least a couple of BIONICLE-esc pieces in rarer colours. All the pieces definitely look BIONICLE compatible, but a lot less match BIONICLE in style that I had hoped. In regards to the sets selling, BIONICLE sets of a similar price point seem to have taken a mini-hiatus, so the 7-10 year old target audience of BIONICLE have less BIONICLE to buy, and would most likely love Ben 10 as well, so the combination of the two brands would be too much for them to resist.
