As much as I'd love all the Mata back as sets, I'd only want them if they're all in the Star style, for consistency sake. There would be nothing worse than an Agori sized Tahu shadowed by an Inika sized Pohatu and Onua.

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Brickthing replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Yeah...That's my problem. I didn't expect so many sets to be gone as early as October, but I suppose with the recession, most people are lay-bying for Christmas already. Hopefully this out-of-stockness will mean that there will be new sets before December, with most of the current sets and hopefully some that haven't shown up yet. -
New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"

On the Space Police note, has anybody seen the Freeze Ray Frenzy set lately aside from on Trademe? All the shops I've been to tend to have no SP3 sets or all but this set. -
Vezok isn't the Piraka? That's odd, because there were only 7 Skakdi that were given the "Criminal" title of Piraka, and it seems to be really storyline-convenient that there were in fact more Skakdi labeled as Piraka, including one that looks exactly like Vezok and has the same weapon.

Well that's a pretty interesting choice of his. The rest has more interesting stuff though - we now know how Tuma got his back injury. Is this a typo or what I think it is? Also, the object of power that the SotS talk about sounds like the power source that restarts the BMGS. And the way Angonce as giving immense power to crumble civilizations at whim to a Skrall who has never been seen again, and the scientific and bio-mechanical way that the GBs grant power, it seems to suggest that Angonce (and the other GBs) used the power source to grant Mata Nui the power of the GS from being a mortal being. Everything fits, except that the Skrall that got great power was a she.

It's not so much colour accuracy with the book, but rather choosing colours that match his character better. Currently he's got the purple and green of Barney, which counteracts his evil pose and face.

This is probably the case, so we really shouldn't be so hung up about the catalogue. Target spoiled that fun, although I'd take HQ Final pictures over blurry prelim pictures any-day. However, in the years before the catalogues also featured environment background art, which in the case of 2010, would provide us with valuable information on where the action will actually be happening. So far we only have a giant sandy Hau, which is related to both BM and the MU, but doesn't really belong/exist in either.

Another good piece. As suggestions, the colours of Karzahnni could do with being grittier and darker, and the shadows should be coming from the bottom to acknowledge the light of the fire below.

About the Piraka, not only does he have Vezok's weapon, but he is blue and has the same face. If it's supposed to be representing a past set, there isn't anyone else that Piraka could be. I suspect he isn't named as Vezok because all the (remaining) Piraka will feature in the plot, but he's just the lucky one to get a set representation.

It's a possibility, but Adaptive Armour looks like Nuva armour when in a normal environment, and Tahu Nuva is no longer Tahu, and does not have a Hau or a Firesword. The Adaptive Armour can change the appearance of him to suit an environment, but it would be stretching it to say that looking like his Mata form would have any advantage to suit an environment. Which is a shame, because I'd prefer that reason to the regressing reason, because the Ignika is the only thing in the storyline currently capable of doing that, and I doubt Mata Nui would have a reason to devolve Tahu.

I hardly think UCS sets would suit Ben 10 much. Most of the people buying UCS sets wouldn't have the faintest interest in Ben 10, and the people interested in Ben 10 are just advancing from the DUPLO age-group. Speaking of DUPLO, the worst price to piece ratio of Ben 10 (given Amazon pricing) is currently about $1.30 per piece, which is about the same as the worst of Thomas the Tank Engine sets, at $1.36 per piece. Both Ben 10 and Thomas the Tank Engine sets are licensed themes with awful price to piece ratios and neither are very compatible with our preferred forms of LEGO, yet I don't see people crying in outrage at the Thomas the Tank Engine sets, so why the problem here?

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
Brickthing replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Why do they need to be changed though? Their shape and colour has always been distinctive. Also, is it dark tan or light tan? -
Hmm, well I think it's new to me though. About the death match, obviously it wouldn't be a death match as such, but it would make sense that Mata Nui would use the robot to give the Makuta a decent enough beating, so as to distract and weaken him from preventing the turmoil going on inside him caused by the Stars and the summer sets, which would ultimately defeat the Makuta. But I'm hoping that Mata Nui will do a little more than slap the Makuta, to make it cool enough to be animated by Ghost. Most of the BM inhabitants currently live under the shelter of the GS, so they'll probably go into it when Mata Nui uses it. But if they don't, it might be kind of neat to have a Giant Robot Disable Match in space, or crash landing on AM and other nearby planets. True, but the guide isn't going to be exclusive for long, so it would've been nice if the little BIONICLE fan kids who aren't as hardcore stood a chance as well. That storyline would be interesting, but we've done heaps of "search for" storylines in the past, and the only reason that the MU/BM inhabitants would want to find the GBs aside from for revenge would be for some repeated reason like "Mata Nui is dying again". Although, if it justifies BIONICLE space sets...

Yeah, but from the wording of what you said it suggested that the ELs had a personal reason why they wanted the EP, not just for the tribe's welfare. Did Greg suggest that, or was it just your wording here? But it seems rather pointless to study the way other societies work if they didn't have the potential for the same problem that SM had. It would be like studying a small African village to find out why WW1 broke out. All of them look different in some way or another even when their size/piece limitations are excused - The Skrall looks to be generic, but is green, Gresh has silver blades instead of the ones he got in the movie and this year's set, Tahu is in his Mata form, The Rahkshi is in a new colour with a new spike pattern, and a Guurahk staff, and Vezok is a Piraka despite currently being a sea snake due to the Ignika. If they're all canon apart from their size, I really do hope that there are good storyline reasons, and it's not just ignored/previous canon retconned. That is new in two ways - firstly, I don't think we're ever been given the impression that the first GS was ever in one piece, just never assembled by the GBs due to technical problems, yet alone that it blew up. That's really cool though, because it means we will be getting the giant robot death match that we've always wanted, and it'll probably be on top of Bara Magna. I want Ghost to animate it. I was actually thinking they'd push them together, but pulling sounds marginally more likely to work. Unfortunately, push/pulling seems the only way to bring 3 giant planetoids to the same place, without needing an extra comic/serial to explain a different, more confusing mechanism of how Mata Nui would do it. Oh, and I also want Ghost to animate this, but it will be hilarious for lack of sense. Well done. The Rock EL's origin has been told in the OGD, but that's kind of unfair, because he's partly expecting all the people who go to such an event with him to know about and read the OGD on BZP. That's interesting, because if they're going to have part of it still based on Bara Magna, they won't be able to show Agori properly, because they'll be the same size. I hope we get to see other Glatorian and Toa in Chibi forms though, even if they're not sets. Maybe he could hand over some information about Bota Magna so that fans could make artwork and other stories for it? That would be awesome, because the plant integration thing sounds really interesting. Good, that's the mystery of BIONICLE that needs to stay a mystery, so that we never really meet/understand what caused the entire BIONICLE saga in the first place. I also hope that at the most Greg only hints vaguely about their current location, and if he does, he does it in a way that suggests they moved to another inhabited planet like Spherus Magna and integrate themselves in their society, so that they can continue their experimentation. As an unrelated wish for 2010, I hope Krakua or somebody activates the Bohrok during the Giant Robot Death Match, and the Bohrok try to swarm Makuta's face. In past years he would say that then. It doesn't confirm it, but the fact that he can't comment this year suggests something is different.

He'll post progress once he gets it. @Tyranide, I do believe Greg said that, under the reasoning that Mata Nui was just a powerless being most likely to die/already be dead, so it wasn't worth the Makuta's effort to go after him. I suppose whatever Tren Krom is going to do will change that, or BM is the first planet Makuta goes to in his conquest quest, hence why BIONICLE HQ decided to make AM and BoM moons of Bara Magna so that the MUGS would be close to BM. In fact I hope that's the reason, because that location change conflicts logic and TLR.

BIONICLE is a different system of pieces yes, but like SYSTEM, TECHNIC and DUPLO it's a sub-system of LEGO, so BIONICLE is just as LEGO as SYSTEM. Besides, it spawned from TECHNIC and still retains huge compatibility with SYSTEM, which is why pieces that originated in BIONICLE sets are seem in a very large percentage of LEGO sets nowadays. In that repect, the Ben 10 system is definitely LEGO, and thankfully it's at least reasonably compatible with BIONICLE as well as coming with some neat spikes similar to Viking horns and spikes. So Ben 10 is definitely not as detached as Galidor was. I didn't notice the price tag before, which is quite an annoyance when I think of what it'll be in NZD, but I was looking at the Ben 10 Alien Force characters (some card game I think) in the shops today and these LEGO versions look exactly like the real things with a clearly LEGO style applied, which I give a thumbs up to the designers for.

Element Lords? It'll be interesting to find out why they wanted EP, I thought it was the tribes in general. The Core War was caused by leaking EP from the planet core, not by flaws in society, so it's odd that the GBs think society is related to their problem/are concerned about "Core Wars" on other planets. Maybe this implies that other planets in the BIONILCE universe have EP too, as the GBs seem to think so. Hopefully their features and especially their weapons will be canon. It's one thing to represent the character in a different scale, but the characters previously represented as sets look completely different to their Star interpretations, so I hope there's a good storyline reason for it. Awesome and inevitable, and I really want to see how 2010 plays out with a gigantic robot Makuta vs. a tiny Mata Nui and a recently-re-assembled dead prototype GS, which seems to be 10 times smaller than MUGS. If there's one thing that I want out of this storyline development, it's the 2009 comic ending with the MUGS impact-landing behind Mata Nui & Co, in between them and the other GS. I will draw it if the comic doesn't. I still don't really agree with the idea of pulling the 3 planets together. It seems so simple and brutal, and under real physics that kind of thing would smash and destroy all three planets, not restore it to the previous good condition SM was in. Although, SM did break from one sphere into 3 spheres, and BIONICLE has never been to fond of real physics, so...*sigh* Pity about 2010 being the last year, but something else BIONICLE-like should replace it. Typically it's fair to assume that "can't answer it" means nothing, but "Is BIONICLE going to end next year?" would usually be a ridiculous question for a long running line, that it would get a decent answer like "It's not planned to, and will only end if sales are really bad next year", so "can't answer it" implies something is different. How did you win it? Also, is there any neat trivial information that we didn't know before?
-
That would be brutal, but would be pretty cool. Maybe if the Ignika is hit and damaged or Mata Nui is killed/mortally wounded during the battle with the Skrall forces, and the mask begins sucking lifeforce from all the nearby enemies?
-
That's a fine piece of work there! Both the characters and the background are very well rendered. The edges of the characters could be a bit softer though, as it looks a bit choppy at points where the black edge appears and disappears. Are the animations going to be based on the dream that Karzahni put Lesovikk in?
