Humongousaur 8517 - 14 Pieces. Things just got a whole lot harder for everyone who was hoping to MOC with Ben 10 and BIONICLE/SYSTEM. Pros: Spidermonkey 8409 has an awesome face and plenty of limb pieces. Chromastone 8411 has purple claws and heaps of new purple spike parts. Big Chill 8519 has amazing wings with a lot of MOCing possibilities. Swampfire 8410 is like Chromastone, but with red spikes and sand green. The combiners are interesting to say the least, but they tempt me to get a ridiculous amount of Ben 10 sets and try MOCing an awesome alien. In summary, I see absolutely no value in even the building experience of the sets, but most of the parts can be great for organic BIONICLE MOCs, something that's currently hard to truly do. It's just disappointing that most of the pieces are overly <insert that tiresome argument> when there was potential for them to be split into smaller, more compatible parts.

I'm unpinning this topic to see if it helps us notice when there's new artwork. Currently there are a lot of amazing works here without much or any recognition/feedback from the rest of us, so I'll be working on a way to try and fix that. Keep posting artwork here though until I can find the best solution.

Agreed on the cheese I think the recoloured aliens are quite neat, because they show that the aliens aren't all identical, and it adds more characters to the families, such as the adorable Squidman family. That said though, I hope that there are completely new alien head/body molds as well, otherwise the aliens will start to seem recycled. Raid VPR is a great set, and a cheap way to get 2 cool minifigs and a whole host of useful parts, including trans-pieces, hand-held flick-fires, and a pair of new white TECHNIC panels, all of which I absolutely want to get! Smash 'n' Grab is cool too, and I'll probably get it for the wide range of pieces, such as the purple flarings , other purple parts, and the new Purple Squidman. As for the set, the truck looks like a purple rehash of previous vehicles, with some unfortunate asymmetry on the back. Stealing an entire ATM is a great theme for the set, although there appears to be a developing correlation between Squidmen and bank notes... The best part about Smash 'n' Grab though is the ATM sign, which appears to be a sticker on top of a light blue 2x4 tile! Along with the 1x3 tile next year, maybe there will be even more varieties of tiles released? My only issues with the sets though - both police use the scared Power Miners faces. While they're great faces, I prefer the original horror face, because it's more comical, which matches the hilarity of the aliens and the set scenarios. Also, although it's cool that this year's sets are based inside city domes, which means it's likely that all the baddie ships will be "Space-Punked" city vehicles, if Space Police is already leaving proper space as a setting, where will it go for 2011/later 2010?

I think Lamincards is the name of the company that makes them, with many themes such as Marvel superheroes, WWE, Ben 10, Bratz and now BIONICLE. Last year on a visit he gave heaps of new information about the end of 2008, so ask him what new stuff he is aloud to say about the end of 2009, such as the comic and events of RoS.

Not 100% convinced on the model of the Magma Mech, as the blue arms look gimmicky, weirdly articulated and the water pack looks odd that high. However, part-wise this set is a gem, with two great minifigs, light-blue TECHNIC beams and metallic silver treads. Although there are only 2 by the looks of it, those tread links are in a new colour, so I suspect they'll make a pretty penny when avaliable on Bricklink in large enough quantities, as it would be a great piece for pimped or futuristic vehicles. About the new rock-monsters, I hope the secondary grey is a dark bley or very dark bley but not black, otherwise the contrast between that and the trans-colour might be too extreme. Hopefully it's the same grey as the original rock monsters, so that we can make trans-yellow standard rock monsters.

Thanks guys! You can expect some updating of our indexes and resource topics, and there will hopefully be exciting contests and stuff in the future! Also, please don't make my job too difficult!

Fabulous! I see what you mean about the eyes now, the new angle of the photo shows them off much better. The sand green eye colour works much better too. The shoes are a great improvement, although you're right in that they're kind of blocky. Maybe a combination of small TECHNIC and SYSTEM parts might help make the shoes more curved at the front. As a suggestion, do you think a TECHNIC pin with a ball (as used on Bohrok heads) might make the nose look better? I tried it and it sticks firmly in the tan joint, but I can't tell if you need the other head end of the 3# axle currently being used. Those are just minor things, because overall that's definitely the best Sonic model I've seen! I encourage you to make the hedgehogs as well.

Great find! It's interesting though that they offer the big pack at a retail price, when that looks like the kind of thing that can only be bought by shops for selling. Hopefully they come out before December though, because that's when the next wave of sets start appearing, which kills kid's hype about the current sets.

It's an awesome awesome piece, well done! What is the purpose of the technic holes though? Incorporation into diving mecha for future sets? The theme looks great overall, although a lot of the subs aren't that distinctive. I'll definitely be getting the impulses, especially seeing as that diver has a neat smile-face, and the Manta fig has a useful gold weapon. I've also got my eye on 8079, which has one of the best sea creatures I've seen so far, and the BIONICLE parts included are too awesome to pass up. The new white claws will also come in useful. I might get 8056 as well, for the good amount of black claws and orange spikes. It'll be interesting to see how much of the bricks will be printed, considering that Aquazone creatures had lots of printed parts, and the quality of the smaller minifig creatures. the 8056 crab looks like a good candidate for printed parts, so it would be neat if the creatures had printing while the subs had the standard sticker treatment.

Do you think that set has purple or pink? It looks purplish in that photo, but in an earlier image that claws looked more like pink. Either way though, I'll probably get that set for the colour, especially if that's a purple/pink Viking horn on the head.

Remember, it's barely just October. The only reason we know what we do is because of the standard minor leak from a website, a Russian toyfair and a muck-up from Target and Amazon.
-
But it's only October. There's still a longer time till the Stars come than the Legends have even been on shelf.

Most likely sales figures, because it's likely that the Piraka did sell better than the Toa Mata, for a multitude of reasons. Focus groups probably come into it too, because I doubt the sales of mini-versions/remakes of very old sets can compare directly to how they used to sell.

It's more of an issue of different people wanting different things. When People group A aren't happy with what the story is like but People Group B is, PG A complain about it. In the next year, the story becomes what PG A wants, so now PG B is unhappy and complains. The end result on forums is that there always seem to be people complaining about change, despite people earlier wanting the change. In regards to how MNOLG set up the universe for BIONICLE, I really wish there would be similar games to establish the new places every year. It would help develop the new setting so that we know what the inhabitants are really like. In 2007, it seemed like the Toa were just fighting bad guys underwater, but a game or novel that went into the lives, hopes and dreams of the Mahri Nui Matoran would've added a lot more meaning when the Toa were trying to defend Mahri Nui from being destroyed by the Barraki at the end of the year. -

I still would have appreciated the storyline for what it is just as much, but the MNOLG made it more interesting because it set the scene, characters and lifestyle of Mata Nui, rather than 2001 just being about 6 robots fighting evil on a tropical island. -

Well you are being semantic about it. You know what Grevious meant, so pulling his statement out of context to change how you can interpret it is a pointless path. And I'm not, as long as it's just healthy discussion. Helps knock out my misconceptions. @ Antrozek, Although he's not solely responsible for many of the major storyline elements that we disagree with, Greg's the main guy who has his name on the books. -

Being nice with you and BIONICLE collectibles doesn't mean he's being nice with many others and the BIONICLE storyline. However, all Darth Vader has done is describe his opinion about the story, albeit with a few unnecessary acusations. His opinion, which differs to others. Don't bash him because he's sharing his thoughts, because two different opinions make a better discussion, which is the idea right? -
All I see is BIONICLE commercials from all the years, playing to prolonged rave music. That said, I do like the transitions into 2004, 2007, 2008 and the Ignika flying away. Those are tight are nicely in sync with the music. It just needs a bit more storyline/non-generic-material and Bfa-pizazz to set it aside from other BIONICLE 01-08 videos.

I love the fact that the Matoran writing is useless jokes from the designers - It's funny, inconspicuous to most viewers, and you think your being really smart by deciphering the runes and you're going to find out BIONICLE secrets, until you realize that they're just useless jokes. That said, it would've been great if the runes in the GB lab said more interesting stuff than just the names of the companies involved. Like if there was a panning shot around the room, and the Matoran script had some weird conversation between two Great Beings, frequently breaking the fourth wall.

Well that's what they did this year as well isn't it? The problem with having only the MU in the first half of the year is that Gresh and Skrall are Star sets too, and I can't see how they'd just get projected into the MU, unless MN&Co find an escape pod or something of the GB's, Gresh goes inside, panics when a Skrall is also there, and activates it. Then, they're sent through space much faster than Mata Nui went in the Ignika, and the pod collides at such a speed with The Makuta that it punctures through Makuta and into the MU. Or Makuta spots the pod and eats it. It's a stretch, so that's why both settings seems like a good idea. I agree that the Red Star seems likely to get involved, because it's currently the main linking element between the two worlds, and it's already been established that it's capable of space flight and beaming stuff up from a planet. Greg has also said that The Riddle of the Great Beings serial will lead into a 2010 Graphic Novel that explains the purpose, origins and mysteries of the Red Star.
-
We'll most likely see both, because Mata Nui and Co and two of the Star sets are currently still there, while the rest of the Star sets are in the MU. I'm glad we're going back, because I want to see the saga being concluded properly, and then the story is free to leap away to some completely unrelated place that Bara Magna wanted to be, but couldn't be.

I've just started watching this movie again to pull it to pieces, and it's interesting some of the things you spot when you're watching stuff 10 times slower than you should be. In Ackar's house, just before Kiina comes, you can see her unmoving silhouette in the doorway. However, in the shot that she appears, her silhouette is still visible in the doorway, but she jumps from outside the doorway, in front of her silhouette, which is wiped out as she appears. It's hardly a plot point, but it's fun to see where the animators cut corners.
