  1. Nicely done! glad to see another Varlyrio build. I was hoping there would be some time after members finished there Challenge V builds to work in Varlyrio!
  2. I like how your roof came out. the story ideas are good too. Good Luck!
  3. thanks for all the feed back. I've had the oak built for a couple weeks, in fact I think I built it the first week the challenge was announced I knew I wanted a tent style camp but have never been 100% happy with my brick built tents. They came together nicely I think and the ability to put little details like packs, quivers and weapons off the post is a nice bonus and adds to the realism I think. I am also particularly happy with the stone head that lies at the entrance to the caverns! As to the the green showing through on the area near the entrance, i was going for a broken less used path. and I was getting very close to the max studs allowed and didn't think about the three stud difference. I think i had enough wiggle room to break it up a bit. once again thanks. I have some more details on the link above but really didn't want to overload the thread with photos.
  4. Got my Challenge V build photographed today find it here at the following link
  5. Not long after the elemental's attacked throughout the lands, Lord Arlindus led the refugees of Circardia deep into the Enchanted Forest to a forgotten grove that the old hermit, Cora, told him about. In the grove was an ancient oak, wide and strong, sat on top a crag. It roots gnarled into the stone walls of cliff wall. A cavern had been cut into the rock long ago, by an old order of druids according to Cora. The druids called the stonghold Llwyn Hynafol. It was a gathering point for druids where they would share their knowledge and practice their skills. The ruins of a large statue, weathered by time and covered with moss, rested outside the entrance to the cavern. Inside was a network of tunnels and caves. One could feel that this was a sacred place and could feel the magic under the branches and roots of the old oak. It was a place safe from the elementals summonded by Victor Revenwold. It was here Lord Arlindus set up camp. Members of the Phoenix Guard and regular soldiers of Avalonia quickly set a palisade perimeter and erected primitive towers along the wall to keep watch for the Hands of Corruption or other threats. They made camp just inside the wall to be close to react if there is trouble. It didn't take long before Lord Arlindus began stockpiling food and goods as well as livestock. The blacksmiths were busy ensuring our weapons and armor was taken care of as well as tending to the shoes on the horses. The High Chief of the Elven Oak Heart Clan, Dywilyn offered his counsel , along with Elven archers to help bolster the defenses. Rolic the Hunter and a few of the Phoenix Guard were responsible for bringing in the last refugees safely to Llwyn Hynafol. inside the caverns, civilians help cook and rest while trying to make the best of the situation a refugee rests on on bed racks A Phoenix Guard inventories the good in the store room. Thanks for looking. as always, Critics and comments welcome! More photos can be seen Here
  6. I plan on continuing with GoH be it Avalonia or my lands in Circardia and the new guild Varlyrio. I finished my Challenge V build today and hope I can get it photographed and posted tomorrow. I was starting to get a bit underwhelmed with the build. It wasn't doing it for me but I was kind of building it in sections as I wanted to be able to move it in pieces. But when it started to come together, I became more and more pleased with it. now that is done, I am pretty happy with the results and hope you all be too!
  7. TRU has started price matching their sets. The details were in the latest flyer I got in the mail but I am sure are on their website somewhere as well.
  8. Good to see you back as well DC! I have also been watching your stuff on Flickr. I'd love to see you take on a Varlyrio MOC! I can imagine it would be gorgeous! I received five lego related things in the mail today. Was better than my birthday! two small Bricklink orders, one order from Brick warriors and one from Brick Forge and finally, Sean Kennedy's new book "Cool Castles" Only down size was I really wanted the antlers from Brick Warriors but for some reason I messed up the order and got bear traps instead! Easily fixed. I just made another order!
  9. As Challenge V is close to wrapping up, I hope everyone is looking forward to entering the Slice of Daily Varlyrion life challenge. I hear the dwarves have been busy in their quarries and mines. The Orcs have stepped up their attacks on merchants and have even raid a couple small villages. The whales are migrating and the whaleing ships are having a great year. The merchants have been hearing about the troubles to the east but trade is still vibrant
  10. I just ordered some of those autumn colored leaves. I hope they are as nice as they look in your photos. great perspective as well.
  11. Nice entry and nice details especially the broken column and the base. good luck! Mikey
  12. just made my first purchase of aftermarket lego pieces (actually three purchases) I have always been a purist at heart but the antlers at Brick Warriors, the sheep at Brick forge and the leaves at Altbricks made it easier to try incorporating some of them into my future builds. What is everyone's feeling on aftermarket pieces?
  13. great build as usual and as I mentioned somewhere before, I am totally borrowing your idea of the planet pieces as a dome roof. (already bought a Bespin plant for the domes) They would look great in Varlyrio!

  22. I took my son to the build at TRU today, We weren't allowed to take home our build but they had some great pieces to use, sand greens, brick bricks, tons of dark green and Olive green leaf pieces. I wish we could have taken home a bag full of pieces! The poly bag we got was pretty cool but nothing special. skeleton, glow in the dark spider and web, gem and crystal piece.
