General Magma's LOTR Figures
General Magma replied to General Magma's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
And here's digital design number two... any suggestions for the next one? Gothmog, Lieutenant of Morgul His head would be a regular minifig head, alongside a headpiece like the ones from the most recent Frankenstein's monster figures, the elves and the new orcs. The darker shade of grey on the torso and legs is pearl dark grey, only used it on prints, helmets, shields, swords and other pieces, but no arms, so that's why the other arm is the usual dark bluish grey. C&C welcome as always - stay tuned for more! -

Thanks! Gothmog will be up next. Thanks. And yes, I do have a template - it's the same size as the Denethor figure: -
Sauron... are they really planning to exclude the prologue from the actual game, as well as Sméagol's ROTK scene from before he became Gollum? Well, anyways... does anyone know a good site to pre-order the game along with the Elrond figure in Europe?

Don't you ever do that again! I expected new gameplay... But to answer your question, yes, it should've been a few months back.

These look great! Nice work. Some of these with blood and ripped clothing (and maybe the 'skirt' ripped at the bottom for a bit) would look great, I'd imagine.

General Magma's LOTR Figures
General Magma replied to General Magma's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Hello all! No new posts since my last one, so excuse me for the double post. I'd like to present to you something new - something I've been planning to do for quite a long time. Finally got to it... Which is, 'digital designs' of possible future LOTR figures. I'm making them in a way TLG probably would, and here's the first one... Denethor, Steward of Gondor That's just a first for now. Next I might have some orc designs up besides real figures in the future, so stay tuned! -
Legends of Chima 2013

More stupid spinning games? Pass... the figures don't look too bad, though. -
Where was this dwarf actually shown, though? Is it any indicator of when we might expect to see the rest or at least some others? We saw Nori and Thorin in blurry pics before but they weren't seen after that again...
-
I don't think so. The white part looks molded - Balin's beard doesn't look like that. It's just a similar mold.
-
The appendices include the White Council too and we had a picture of that recently, for some reason I'm pretty sure you're wrong about that.
-
Yes, but The Avengers sets were released a bit before the movie as well if I recall correctly. However, the scenes depicted in those sets actually appeared in the movie not too long after the sets showed up. If they released those 2 Hobbit sets along with the rest, it would be a year before the movie with the corresponding scenes actually shows up. Not a month, otherwise we could start a debate about The Hobbit sets appearing a few weeks before the movie itself as well.
-
Although I do wonder what the filler sets could be, then. Remember that that ending still hasn't been confirmed fully, though, it's just hard to disprove. I guess there isn't any chance of having any LOTR sets showing up to replace those other two... or is there?
-
I doubt it. The sets and figures are based on the movies and even then, a book-exclusive character wouldn't go well with the rest here. That and I would hate to have SDCC exclusives for this theme since I told myself to at least get all the figures, and preferably all sets as well. There would be plenty of others who'd be against the idea of SDCC exclusives for this theme as well.

General Magma's LOTR Figures
General Magma replied to General Magma's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks! Well hey, that might be something for me to do in the farther future. By then the armies will have grown to huge proportions... I think I could make Háma, yes. Dunno about Gamling since they had a figure of him in the video game, and there's a chance of him appearing in a set later on, but I doubt we'll see Háma otherwise. Named AND/OR non-generic characters I'm currently planning to make: - Háma - Old soldier in Helm's Deep (upsetter of the Uruks) - Guritz (orc with skull on his head, if there won't be an official one) -
General Magma's LOTR Figures
General Magma replied to General Magma's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thank you! Nope, I don't paint any Warhammer figurines, though several of my Rohan soldiers were inspired by some Warhammer versions. Most of the figures from the first batches of this topic were marked as my comeback to customizing, and were the first attempts at it using Revell paint. Thanks again - so as for now... allow me to present to you the very next batch of Rohan soldiers, including a new shield design! Soldiers of Rohan #2 I thought the shield turned out great! I think you might've seen the design it's based on before. All the helmets are painted, the first three completely, and the one to the far right just has additional silver lines. Tried a new design for a helmet as well, since I wanted to have more variation. And if you have a very keen eye, you may be able to spot a bit of rustiness on the helmet painted with a lighter brown. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________ For individual pics of the figures, have a look at the bonus pictures under the pic in my Flickr photostream. C&C is welcome as always. Thanks, and enjoy! Any suggestions as for the next Rohan shield design, or perhaps things regarding certain figures? A source of inspiration for a new orc based on an actual (preferably unnamed) orc? Go ahead and toss in your suggestions! -
Qui-Gon Jinn (got impaled), Padme (died after childbirth), Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Barbossa (felt his heartbeat after trying to eat an apple, then died), Nahdar Vebb (got smashed apart by Grievous off-screen, Kit Fisto catches his skeletal corpse), Jango Fett (although indirect and off-screen), Davy Jones... My main concern is that most of these things just happened off-screen and thus not much like the scenes they belong to (Qui-Gon's death was accurate though), so I guess Boromir will just trip over a banana and fall off a waterfall in that boat they originally had placed him in the movie after all... Lurtz laughing and tossing one near the edge, then running off with Boromir falling down eventually. Sadly this could even work out similarly.

Reading that the game isn't actually supposed to have a higher rating but is aimed more at ages 6-12 disappoints me quite a bit after seeing PEGI 12 in the latest trailer. Was to be expected actually, but still... The thoughts of Boromir or Théoden dying in a sillier or inaccurate way have returned. I know that the Uruk got hit with an arrow as well, but he was still moving after he fell over and it's not a (human) main character. Did he not die or something?

General Magma's LOTR Figures

Thanks. Hmmm... elves.. I don't know. Pretty much depends on what Elves. I'm kinda waiting for TLG to do Lothlorien Elves themselves, and since I've got a Helm's Deep MOC project planned for the future, those will be needed. -
General Magma's LOTR Figures
General Magma replied to General Magma's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks! They sure would. I might make some named characters or non-generic characters like the bow master in Helm's Deep if they don't appear in their corresponding sets. (The bow master doesn't, so that's one...) I hope we'll eventually get to see the rest of the possible figures in sets too, though, but the creation of named characters is still an idea in the back of my head for now. -
LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors
General Magma replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
So we've officially reached 5-digit numbers for regular sets, then? Some of these sound interesting, but if anything at all, I'd only buy the SWTOR pack. It will save me enough money for the Middle-Earth sets as well. -
Right when I thought it couldn't get worse than Gothmog! I'm still wondering whether they went for the Moria orc design in the films or not. You're joking, right? And nonetheless, even if those heads were never made, I can't see how it's not kid friendly. Not that it is, but they've done things similar to that before. We already got a few types of orcs done in LEGO form, I can see the Great Goblin being done in a similar style, just a bit more gross but hey, it is based on the movies... If kids buy these they'll probably have seen the films already and thus the corresponding character.
-
Those staffs... they don't work at all. I certainly hope the official staffs won't be as plain as these are, but with at least an unique mold for each. Looks like they would color Saruman's entire beard dark grey rather than just the small bit on top. They're not the actual figures but still...
-
I've been wondering - will not all of the Fellowship members end up with a Lothlorien cloak? In the Helm's Deep cutscenes, I didn't see Legolas nor Gimli with any kind of cape, and Aragorn just had his black ranger one. (In these scenes he would've been supposed to wear chain mail as well... I wondered what happened to that. They did the same thing with the Aragorn fig from the set.)
-
Ah, okay. As for Gothmog... well, okay, but that would make the figure a bit meh for me (and many others too I'd imagine). I would prefer a new headpiece for him so he can still have his ears - it would also make it a figure of a much higher quality for me. They did a similar thing with the Even Piell figure from SW, I can see them doing that here again. They didn't leave Bombur with a stud on his head either, that space was filled up because of the hairpiece - one of the Mordor orcs was an exception but people didn't quite like how they withdrew the chance of another hairpiece. Although it's not about his baldness here but the ears... without something like that he would be hard to recognize. Yep. Honestly, I don't think we're getting any set based on The Last Alliance since the announcement of that Elrond fig anymore, either. One chance of having a Sauron or maybe an Isildur figure would be a Visional Dictionary, but one of them would still be missing, along with generic soldiers... but who knows?
-
While it's hard not to agree with that logically and because it's hard to predict, Caedus, I still hope and think that this theme will go beyond 2014. Also, as for the orcs... it has been mentioned that the current Mordor orcs are simply workers, who can confirm that this has been said somewhere? I can believe that, though - they'll probably have more variations of Mordor orcs and have them be "Morannon orcs" since those were present at Minas Tirith. I dunno if the differences are large enough for the two types to be separated into different armies, especially for me since I have loads of custom orcs, but that's a way it would work for sets, although perhaps a bit confusing for those who don't have much LOTR knowledge since Morannon orcs are basically stronger and larger versions of Mordor orcs and come from Mordor as well (size doesn't matter for LEGO figures, unless they're small or just very big, though). I'm trying to think of how they would handle Gothmog. Can't let him go around bald as in, with a stud on his head, so do any of you think a new headpiece, bald with ears, might work?
