  1. There are very small gear racks.
  2. You should be able to wire all the lights in series and be ok. Maybe wire them in two parallel series blocks. Too much power and the LED will burn out, too little power and they will be dim. There is definitely a formula to use to know how much current each LED will consume and therefor how many you should stack up in a row. If you have few LEDs you will often find resisters to keep the current low enough. Worse case you can put a large resister on the line, if the lights are too dim, try a smaller resister, work your way up to no resister if you need all the juice.
  3. The tracks, and the cab, and the plow look good. Maybe you can use the extra piece count to create some sort of body between the tracks and the cab where the engine and transmission would be housed. By the way, what is the one function? I dont see any linear actuator but I see a knob on the roof.
  4. Structural integrity is one of the pinnacles of an official LEGO set. Could someone fake the assembly enough for a photo? Such as missing studs on the backside that you can't see to keep the parts count down, or loose construction where if you actually played with it, it would fall apart and wobble around? That would be very un-LEGO-like. I propose that we present a video of the model actually being played with to prove that it's indeed what it appears to be.
  5. Dang, I need that 20z worm gear for my mini moc!
  6. You can send all 4 channels through the same IR Led. Simply call sendComboPwm again with the additional channels and speeds. These parts are readily available off the shelf, so anyone can try!
  7. LEGO Technic 8081 B Model with a Servo, M model, IR receiver and battery box, together with a custom Arduino controller. OzShan's post about Power Functions got my wheels turning so I stopped by RadioShack and picked up an Arduio Explora and an IR LED and built this: Here is the code:
  8. Where are you getting stuck? This should be trivial to implement with mindstorms. Otherwise you're going to have to hack the protocol as mentioned with a microprocessor. Thats going to be a bit more involved in terms of hardware and programming. I'd recommend taking advantage of the easy to use mindstorms components: rotation encoder, push button, IR transmitter that already speaks the protocol, and simple graphical programming language. Prove out the system the in should be easy to replicate with a simple microprocessor, likely arduino compatible.
  9. My reaction would violate the terms of service. Well done!
  10. Soft-axles? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=95279
  11. Very cool. Good job. When you say "it's not a mini model" though, what is the threshold?
  12. Siiickkkk. The clutch is awesome, drive axle is awesome, half stud beams are awesome, instagramization is awesome, Nice bearing technique in the rear.
  13. Your question is hard to understand. Did you intend to ask if purists would be ok with the part if it were made in red? No! But it sure would be pretty!
  14. You could use discreet proportional control, like the Lego servo, it may only have 3 open rates, each separated by a gasket. The valve could have 7 discreet locations, closed, and 3 rates in each direction. Replace the number 3 with your desired precision.
  15. I would hope we could use a raw stock (3rd party official) of tubing. However sets come precut these days so each segment should count as a piece. Unlike brick elements, I doubt Lego limits themselves by the lengths of existing tubing. And it would be a shame to ask a mocer to cut his precious official tubing. Tubing and rope is quite unique from elements and rubber bands.
  16. Can you make an internal part thats more suitable for proportioning? Maybe have the holes open very gradually. Its very difficult to get proportional flow control out of standard Lego valves.I think it might also be useful to capture the vent. Then the builder could use it for a vent or a two pole switch. Putting some resistance on the vent my also help with controllability.
  17. So just to be clear, tubing and rope should use official LEGO, but it's acceptable not to? IMO there's a huge difference between should use something, and needs to use something.
  18. Aren't there adapter cables for this? so you dont need to cut anything.
  19. Tailgate is a perfect mini addition.
  20. The usage of "should" in the rules is confusing.
  21. What would be the advantage in submitting before July 31? I'm curious why you wouldn't want to keep your entry a secret.
  22. This contest is really long. I'm going to have to wait 2 months o submit! Is this the usual contest duration?
  23. Are there any rules around having the same model as another entry? If two people submit a lawn mower, will they both be judged? Is there any concept of copying an idea? If so, how is the original determined? Thank you.
