Your review is very nice, but I don't like the set very much. It reminds me a lot of the 4+ sets (although there's obviously more smaller pieces here, but the minifigs are very Jack Stone-like). It's almost like 4+ version of Wild West theme, just like we had those terrible 4+ Pirates once. I loved the Toy Story movies but the idea of Toy Story Lego doesn't appeal to me that much.

I only have two ships built from sets right now - Black Seas Barracuda and Birckbeard's Bounty, and yes, they are both slightly modified. The rest are customs.

I'm a guitarist and lead singer in one band, and a guitarist and backing singer in another. The first one is mainly punk, while the second is really hard to describe... I even made a Lego video for the punk band. I play a Fender Telecaster, have two of them, love them both. I also love acoustic guitar and bought myself a nice-sounding Fender Sonoran this summer. Sometimes I play soprano saxophone but my skills on this instrument are really really basic. We play gigs from time to time with both bands, we had a 10-gig tour around my country this October/November, and the next 3 gigs that I know of are in January...

They are representations of toy soldiers which were in those weird colours because once bought, they were supposed to be painted. My friend had quite a few of those back in the old days. So who knows, perhaps we are supposed to paint them as well?

Those last few days were very special to me, as I moved to a new place to live. You can imagine what a mess such a task can be, and to top it all I had to transport all my ships without destroying or dismantling them. This case was bothering me for quite some time, but fortunately it all went pretty smoothly, much easier than I expected. Thanks to my friend, who offered assistance and her car, which was used to transport not only Lego, but a lot of other stuff too. I noticed that the two ugly boxes, which originally contained new chairs I bought, could be very useful. In fact I have no idea what I would have done without them, so they pretty much saved the day. It's a good thing I bought those chairs. So I put the ships into those two boxes (sorry about the mess, as you can see my apartment was still being renovated at the time): + a few smaller ones into this box (forgive me the product placement, it's completely unintentional ): Inside of one of the big boxes, sorry about the blurry picture: As you can see some of the ships had to be partially dismantled, but it was nothing that would bother me. In my new place, I had a new cabinet built specifically for my fleet, here it is, not completely assembled yet. It also tends to lean forward here, but that was later fixed. . It took me two full days to clean the ships (some of them collected some dust in the old place, being directly exposed to it), reattach some of the loose pieces, put the sails back on, asseble and clean the cabinet. The result looks like this: (cabinet closed/cabinet open) (you can even see me on the left picture if you look closely ). Right now I'm experimenting with placing of the ships, in order to give each of them enough exposure. Nonetheless, I am satisfied with the results so far. It's hard to show it on the pictures, but there is actually place for some more ships in there (which is a good thing as I'm building another one right now, and I'm planning on getting the new 10210 Imperial Flagship as well). When there is no more room, I'll probably move the smaller ones somewhere else, as it's easier to find a new place for them, and leave only the bigger ones in here, but that is yet to be seen). One more picture, with all ships facing the screen: That picture is my favourite, unfortunately I can't keep them like that permanently as it would be impossible to close the cabinet, and someone could hit them while passing by, or even cause them to fall on the floor. Brickshelf gallery, with a few additional pictures.

[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Dreamweb replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
EPISODE 22 - Confession is here - feel free to read and comment. Another rather emotional episode, but I loved making it. I am now planning on some action-packed episodes for a change. However before that happens, one more episode is necessary to wrap up the story shown in episodes 21/22 - it should be ready soon. -
Which Official Pirate LEGO Sets Do You Have?
Dreamweb replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I offered him money for it but he didn't want it. I also got a big bag of Lego from my mother's friend once - also for free, I told her how much it was worth but she didn't want money either. Some people are just generous by nature. -
I must say I like the skull from this set though (I know it's been in some other sets too), I'll definitely use it for a sinister looking pirate ship or pirate base in the future.
-
Earlier this year I found this set (3565) in a shop (didn't think it would still be available, must've been lying there for a loooong time, it was significantly discount too) and bought it for the sole purpose of having more dark-skinned faces for my pirates.

Which Official Pirate LEGO Sets Do You Have?
Dreamweb replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I've already mentioned it before, but I got one of them for free from a friend of mine who still had it but wasn't interested in Lego anymore. I had to pay for the other two, but one of them was really, really cheap. Only one of them is assembled though. -
RBR also lacks an achor so is in no way superior in this matter.
-
For me, Brickbeard's Bounty is way better than Red Beard Runner. The RBR looks incomplete and even silly in some places. The BB on the other hand was a good ship to re-introduce the Pirate theme, has a lot of nice decorative elements, nice colours, great minifigs. I'm not a fan of its sails though, I think that might be the only (or one of very few) things that look better in the RBR, then again, the RBR looks like it's missing at least 3 sails...

This was the last 2009 Pirate set I got, as I didn't feel that much of an urge to get it. From the pictures, it didn't look as appealing as the Soldiers' Fort or the great Brickbeard's Bounty. But I finally got one and I must say - the real thing is even more disappointing. The baseplate actually isn't my major complaint - of course it's one big piece and has limited usage, but I can hadle that. But I don't like the way it is used in the set - the "skull cave" just lies loosely on the top of it, not attached in any way. What's more, if we look at the back side of the island, there's a big ugly hole in the middle right below the cave - did the designer forget to add some plants or something to seal it or what? I wanted the castaway minifig with the torn trousers so much, but here's another disappointment - if you lean the torso backwards, you see yellow on his legs, where the brown trousers should be. Great, a minifig which has a limited articulation, unless you want it to look silly. It's good to have a cannon, but it's used in a way that makes no sense at all - on a rotating platform on a small boat (just like in the old 6245 Harbor Sentry which didn't make sense either). I gave it a 3, or maybe it's more like 2,5? It's a good thing that we had sets much better than this in this new Pirate line - had it only been sets like this one, I'd consider the whole return of Pirates a disappointment.

As far as small flags go, they're all solid, and the imperial flag is very similar to the old version so no big deal there. Among pirate flags, I'd still choose the old one, cause the pattern on it is so much better.
-
It's the face of the female pirate from classic Pirates - back in 1989, the first specifically female face in the history of Lego if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for the comments!
-
Of the two types, I think I like the new type more. However, material is one thing, the picture on the flag is another. I hate the new pirate flag with the disproportional skull. I got one with my Brickbeard's Bounty but I don't think I'll ever use it. But the new soft imperial flag is great. So I must say that if - having both types available - I were to choose a big pirate flag for a MOC, it would be the old solid flag because I like the picture better. But if I were to choose a big Imperial flag, I'd go for the new soft one.
-
I was going to say the same. You forgot about this third type:
-
The designers finally recalled that a ship needs an anchor - an important detail many of the latest ships were sadly missing.
-
This version sttll looks very nice, although I'd prefer it only had the red/white sails, no big Jolly Rogers on them. Reminds me of my own modified Black Seas Barracuda which was turned into a Spanish vessel, but this one looks way better... It's funny how just switching a few colours here and there changes the official set.
-
I think I'd get at least one immediately after it's available...
-
I don't have it but from what I can see, it looks like the worst af all the 2009 Pirate sets (if you consider it a Pirate set at all). I must say though I only look at it as a part pack, as I don't think I would ever bother to play the actual game, so this makes my judgement far less objective. It's a great source of jewels and that's about it. Plus you have the skeleton and the hat. I'd choose Tic Tac Toe rather than this anytime. But your review is pretty decent!
-
I have to say Imperials. There's nothing wrong with pirates, they just don't appeal to me that much. I must also admit that as far as minifigs go I prefer collecting uniformed soldiers rather than getting more and more random looking pirates...
-
That doesn't appeal to me at all. That's definitely too far from classic. I've used paper to make sails for some of my ships, or sometimes to make parts of minifig's outfit, but that's a completely new approach.

[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Dreamweb replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
With Brickshelf up again, there was no need to choke the thread with all those pictures anymore. I've edited my previous post and just added a link to the Brickshelf gallery of Episode 21. Episode 22 will be up soon! -
Which Official Pirate LEGO Sets Do You Have?
Dreamweb replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's been FOUR years since my last listing, I think an update would be appropriate. I can't really say how accurate the list is is as it's hard to remember every single set and I got my first sets in... well, 1989. But I think it should be 90% accurate. Anyway, here's the more or less complete list: 1464 Pirate Lookout 1733 Shipwrecked Pirate 1747 Pirates Treasure Surprise 6232 Skeleton Crew (about 10 of them) 6234 Renegade's Raft (2 or 3) 6235 Buried Treasure (2 of them, I think) 6237 Pirate's Plunder 6245 Harbor Sentry (2 or 3 of them, not sure) 6246 Crocodile Cage 6247 Bounty Boat (2 of them, I think) 6251 Pirate Mini Figures (1 or 2) 6252 Sea Mates 6257 Castaway's Raft 6258 Smuggler's Shanty 6259 Broadside's Brig 6260 Shipwreck Island 6263 Imperial Outpost 6266 Cannon Cove (2 of them) 6267 Lagoon Lock-up 6268 Renegade Runner (2 of them) 6271 Imperial Flagship (2 of them, but one without sails) 6274 Caribbean Clipper (2 of them) 6276 Eldorado Fortress 6280 Armada Flagship 6285 Black Seas Barracuda (3 of them) 6289 Red Beard Runner 6296 Shipwreck Island and from the 2009 wave of sets: 6192 Pirate Building Set 6239 Cannon Battle (x 3) 6240 Kraken Attackin' 6241 Loot Island 6242 Soldiers' Fort 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty 6253 Shipwreck Hideout 8396 Soldier's Arsenal (x 3) 8397 Pirate Survival And I can't wait to add the 10210 Imperial Flagship to that list!
