You may list them, but coins are the most important thing and the first thing that will be taken into account by me while making the list of the wealthiest citizens.

You mean the 1x2 plate with $100 print? That doesn't belong to Pirate currency system. Keep counting yer treasure mateys, I'll make a list of the richest members as soon as there's enough entries.

Very good and very classic-looking - like a 1989 set that wasn't released until today! Expect it to be blogged on Classic-Pirates soon!
-
First it was: Does it have any interior? - because while commenting Pirate-themed ship MOCs I was frequently wondering and asking whether they had any interior details, like cabin and so on - since interior pictures were frequently absent. Now it's New Classic-Pirates blogger! - obviously because I became the said blogger

Happy birthday Captain Green Hair! It looks like we're the same age now

This is sadly one of the sets I never had but always wanted to. All the details are just amazing, in fact I had no idea about some of them until reading your review (like the opening roof of the warehouse). While it was the Pirates who had the best ships in the Classic Pirates era, it was the Imperials who had the best ground facility. The little ship is great too.

Thanks! This made my day too. Very very good news indeed! Thanks for your encouragement everyone! I'll try to do my best to please all of us Pirate fans

I don't mean to argue with anyone, it's just my opinion... Pretty much the whole Star Wars theme, which I guess is "universally loved", especially the big "special" sets like Millennium Falcon or Death Stars, doesn't impress me at all. I never liked the movies (and I love sci-fi, just not this kind of it), and I find nothing interesting about the sets.

You're right, not always. The 6241 Loot Island has only four coins, the rest are jewels. But if I remember correctly, in the times of original Pirates, when there weren't any jewels, it was sort of customary to add 8 coins to every chest if a set had one... (and you also had 2 of those golden middle pieces we've talked about). Of course, there are also sets which have a chest and no coins at all.
-
That is partially true. However, a lot of users, like me, also have a significant amount of used - or second-hand - Lego, bought not as sets but in various configurations, where the amount of coins can vary and be quite unpredictable. I'm 100% sure I don't have equal quantity of each type of coin, like I would if I had only bought new boxed sets, where, if there's one treasure chest in it, there's always two "10s", two "20s", two "30s" and two "40s" (if I remember correctly, there's two coin sets for every chest). That's why my theoretical example from previous post is valid.

I tried my number backwards and I was really shocked... It looks like it's the same as 485, which is the oldest set in my collection - it's from 1975. In fact I posted it as far as yesterday in "What's your oldest set" thread. Looks like 693 in a European version of 485 (the strange thing is I have the US version, not the European one). It can't be just a coincidence... Plus there's really something to this whole backward speech thing...

I think it's the best middle-sized Pirate set, or at least one of the top 3. I remember back when it was released that my friend, who was more a Castle guy, had one assembled and standing on his desk. I was really impressed with it - all the details, the jail, the overall look - it's just a perfect composition. Plus it comes with this small sail - I remember wanting one of these so badly! Definitely a 5 from me. I didn't have the chance to get one myself until only a few years ago. This is THE set to buy if you want to have a base for your soldiers and cannot afford bigger sets like Eldorado Fortress.

I always keep those bits, I used them as gold bars on several occasions. Whatever you wish... However if you just check with peeron, you will not be able to take a picture of your treasure, you will only be able to sum it up and that's all. And a picture would be appreciated as it shows how big your treasure actually is. So the preferable way would be to physically find your coins, count them and then take a picture of them. If you have your Lego sorted (and I know many of us do), this shouldn't be such a big task... Diamonds are a different thing entirely, of course you can count them if you wish, but we don't know the diamond to coin exchange rate. This topic focuses on gold coins alone, but if you wish to add a note about your other goods, that's fine with me. It's not the number of coins that actually matters, it's their total value. So, for example if each of your 20 coins had the number 40 on it, your total treasure would be worth 800. And at the same time if I had 60 coins, but each of them with a value of 10, my treasure would be worth 600, so you'd still be richer than me despite having less coins.

I have to say no... such coins are unavailable as long as the box is sealed, so technically you can neither use them nor count them (of course, you KNOW how many coins are inside, or you can check that on Peeron or somewhere else, but still, they're sealed). Only coins you can pick up and count yourself, and take pictures of.
-
All sets count, even non-pirate sets as long as they have the coins (I'm pretty sure they were present in a number of other themes too). A coin is a coin. As long as we're talking about the standard coins popularised by the Pirate line, not some $100 notes from Western theme and other Lego means of payment.

In my case it's either 617 - Cowboys: or 485 - Fire Truck: Lugnet and Peeron say they're both from 1976, but according to Brickset the truck is from 1975. I bought them both some time in the 2000's so they're not my first sets. I even have the boxes for both of them, although they're in pretty bad shape (the pics above are taken from Peeron so they're not mine). But both sets were 100% complete. I have separated the yellow ladder into 3 pieces and I think I'll use each of them separately in a MOC some time (of course I can put it back together whenever I want)...

It's an idea that's been on my mind for some time... We've had topics like "How many cannons do you have?" or "How many rowboats..." etc. I'm sure many of us have those gold coins that came in many Pirate sets. They have the value of 10, 20, 30 and 40. My idea is to gather all of one's coins and sum them up like real money, and then post the total sum here. It would be most welcome to add a picture of your coin collection to prove your word - they can be either lying loosely or being in chests, but in that case the chests should be open to let us see the contents. Of course there's no need to show the value of each end every coin on the picture, it's just for estimating purposes... Let's see who the richest captain on this forum is... I'll try to count my treasure and post a picture soon. Questions and comments are always welcome!

That is a common misconception that we've talked about a thousand times or so. The guy in a stripped shirt is not necessarily a pirate. He can just be a sailor - not all sailors on naval ships were soldiers. In fact, there's a picture on the box where we see him helping the other soldier carry the treasure chest. I know this might also indicate that he's a prisoner and they ordered him to do it, but that's just a matter of personal choice really. In short - he can, but does not have to be a pirate. Same goes for similar characters in Imperial Trading Post and other sets.

What is the funniest things you have heard said about Lego?
Dreamweb replied to Sisco's topic in General LEGO Discussion
One more thing has come to my mind. When someone visited my house and saw my pirate ships on a shelf, he asked me: "Is this glued?" Now, while I have occasionally seen several glued Lego creations in my life, this still seemed pretty funny to me... -
I was going to mention the Atlantis girl, which has a great face BTW. Also, there's a new female character in the new 10210 Imperial Flagship, even with an extra dress according to those who have bought it... And while we're at Pirates, I've been wondering if the figurehead from 6285 Black Seas Baracuda should be on the list as well? She's obviously female, the only thing she's missing are legs. Also, I've always had an impression that some of the Martian minifigs from Life On Mars were supposed to be female, but maybe that's just my imagination...

Actually, back then the sails were made of much thicker and better material. I suggest you check them out if you have that possibility. The ship reviewed here, as well as other ships from that era, had very nice thick sails, which were also printed on both sides, while nowadays the sails are of a lower quality material and they're white on one side.

What is the funniest things you have heard said about Lego?
Dreamweb replied to Sisco's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, similar to some of you, when I once bought a used set from a guy, he e-mailed me and wrote something like "I hope your little son will be happy". I don't have any children BTW. But I didn't feel like explaining it to him. -
This is beyond doubt the best of the narrow-hull ships. Everything is in the right place, colours are nice and the whole thing is very aesthetically pleasing. The ships looks fast and maneuverable compared to ships like BSB or SES. The crew is nice and it's always good to have Admiral Woodhouse. The sails are one of the best Lego has ever released, with realistic canvas colour. The only two things I'd change are: the window at the stern, which looks silly as half of it is over the bridge level so it actually is a window between the outside and the outside, and the rudder turning mechanism - I never really liked it, I prefer to save that space for a cabin or something more useful. Apart from that it's a great set and a true classic.
-
Could have looked so much better if the sails were positioned and attached differently... I love the pattern on the main sail, but the way this sail hangs is just wrong. The colour scheme should've been more consistent - mainly white and blue. But they added a little bit of red here, a bit of yellow there, and green... That's too much. This set has a lot of cool parts which work great if used on their own in a MOC, like the greeen railing, green cannon base, and especially the blue/white hull - I absolutely love this hull, it's so versatile. However all these pieces put into this one set make it look too messy... The minifigs are great, but they could've added one more for a set this size. I can never get enough of these Spanish soldiers... Design-wise, it's worse than 6271 Imperial Flagship or even Renegade Runner, although it has more rare and cool parts than those two sets combined... I think it's worth buying, but mine was taken apart for parts pretty quickly.
