  1. The islanders did feel a little out of place from the whole theme, but with time I got to like them a lot more. The minifigs are good. I finally got the female islander minifig a few days ago (only had the males before that) and I must admit that her torso is great!
  2. You can always make custom torsos.
  3. Looks promising... Too bad it's only two-page long as of yet. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon!
  4. Switch the head and you will get Rayden from Mortal Kombat.
  5. Captain Red Beard is a classic, no doubt one of the most recognisable minifigs ever made. Like IAmWillGibson wrote, it was revolutionary in so many ways - not only the pegleg and the hook, but also the eyepatch (Pirates were the first theme not to have standard smiley faces), Jolly Roger hat... It's impossible for me to choose the best minifig, there's just sooo many to choose from. However, being a Pirate fan, I must also mention the wench: She had the first ever female face, and a great torso which is still among my favourites. And finally, Governor Broadside: I can't express how badly I wanted to have him as a kid! Unlike the pirate captain, which was in most Pirate sets, and even in minifig packs, this dude was only in two big sets, which I couldn't afford at the time. And almost everything about him was unique and one of a kind - torso, face, hat, plume - you couldn't get them anywhere else! I remember staring at his picture for hours. Then I finally got one with the Caribbean Clipper I was given for Christmas by my parents. So I can't choose the best minifig, but if you ask me about my favourite one, I will definitely say it is and always has been Governor Broadside.
  6. I forgot to mention that I finally got this set two months ago or so. Better late than never. Unfortunately I didn't get the extra dress for the lady. There's a lot of cool stuff in that ship, I like the way it is full of those little decorative elements here and there. Its overall look is very nice and it looks good in a display case. I still don't know whether it's better than BSB though, surely it's bigger and more detailed, but BSB is just so special to me. I'm probably not being objective as I'm very nostalgic about it. If I were to change something in the Imperial Flagship, the figurehead would be the first thing to go. The sawfish somehow looks a bit out of place. It doesn't even fit the colour scheme of the whole thing. To me it looks like it was thrown in there at last minute. Brickbeard's Bounty's mermaid was so much cooler. Still, it's definitely one of the best pirate sets ever made, and it definitely deserves a 5 in the poll.
  7. I'm in a similar situation. Although I don't hate Pirates of the Caribbean, I just don't care about them. I saw the first part, didn't like it, didn't feel the need to see the rest, not gonna see On Stranger Tides or whatever it's called either, that's all. But... I'm happy with the new theme, as it will provide us with some new pirate-related elements, designs and so on. As far as I'm concerned, PotC license is worse than classic pirates, but it's better than no pirates at all, so I can take what they are giving us and make the best of it. That's the problem with every licensed theme. However, you can expand each of them however you want and to whatever degree you want, so no problem there. Or you can just use the elements to build MOCs completely not related to the PotC franchise (that's what I'm gonna do anyway), in which case it's not so different from any other non-licensed theme (except maybe the fleshie minifigs, which I'm not a big fan of but I've accepted them).
  8. I'm trying to eat Skalldyr!!! A nice story, I'm looking forward to the conclusion! Oh, and almost forgot: [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon!
  9. At least we know the pistols will remain unchanged... [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon!
  10. Perhaps someone should also make the SS Jelly Roger from Yogi's Treasure Hunt:
  11. A man named Jens Murer contacted the Classic-Pirates.com website and shared with us the adress of his blog, where you can see some interesting photos of minifigs and stuff from the Pirates Advent Calendar. Examples: The website is in German, but don't worry if you don't speak it, the pictures alone are worth taking a look at, and it's always nice to see a different approach to LEGO Pirates! The website can be found here: http://zeugenberg.wordpress.com And BTW: [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon!
  12. This should've been posted in the MOC subforum. Anyway, I'm not familiar with the comic, but I've already seen two MOCs of the ship apart from yours! One can be seen here, and there was one more, made a long long time ago, which I cannot find right now. I like your version very much, it does look a lot like the original, definitely has a comic-book feel. Great job with the hull!
  13. I'd like to be a part of it, if you still have enough time/figs. On the bluecoat side obviously. I've been thinking of changing my sigfig for some time now, but I'll guess the old one is OK: You can use any blue torso similar to this if you don't have it!
  14. We have not blogged your last updates, and they certainly deserve this! So expect your WIP MOC to be once again blogged soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  15. Since the names of the upcoming eight sets have not yet been blogged on Classic-Pirates.com, expect them to be frontpaged there soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  16. The shark scene looks great! Almost like it's actually in motion. Overall a nice MOC, expect it to be blogged soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  17. Those are really really nice customs you've made... Expect them to be frontpaged on Classic-Pirates.com soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  18. It's been some time but I made a few updates to my SAW gallery! Let me begin my mentioning that I watched the latest part - SAW 3D - last night and it was... Not good. I felt seriously disappointed. After last year's really good SAW VI, my hopes were very high... Unfortunately, the movie turned out to be a big mess with very little atmosphere of the older movies. I don't want to post any spoilers, after all this is a MOC thread, but the movie was lacking in so many aspects that if I were to tell what I didn't like in particular, I wouldn't even know where to start. I'll of course watch it some time in the future again and who knows, maybe I'll see some good things in it eventually. But for now I wanted to wash the bad taste out of my mouth, so I made those two MOCs, both representing scenes from near the end of SAW II. These are Amanda, Daniel and Xavier just before he cut off a piece of skin from his neck. The same from a different point of view. And this is Eric Matthews being attacked by Amanda wearing a pigmask costume. All the older pictures are of course still in the gallery so feel free to watch all of them: MY SAW GALLERY PS. Even though SAW 3D sucked, I'll probably build its final scene anyway
  19. For a first post it's a very nice MOC indeed! Expect it to be blogged on Classic-Pirates.com soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  20. Don't worry, it'll be there soon. Silly me. Thanks!
  21. [pid][/pid] 119D Hi there. We received an e-mail about this ship from its creator, asking if we could post it in our forum. It's a great-looking vessel so I'm glad to grant his request. Brickshelf Gallery Discuss! And by the way... [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon.
  22. Now that you've mentioned it... I've had a total of 3 BSBs in my life (no Legends, just the original sets) and I've noticed some differences. I don't know if this has anything to do with the release date, but still... For one, the "red flags" which cover the gunports, were standard red in one of the ships, but in two other sets they were significaltly darker, with a rougher surface. Something between normal red and today's dark red, the colour which AFAIK wasn't officially introduced back then. I'm not sure but I think earlier sets had dark red flags which were replaced with standard red in later models. I can easily take pictures of those if you wish. Also, one of the sets had a most unusual feature. This time I'm sure it was just bad molding of the mast pieces: When I connected the upper part (seen on the right) with the lower part (seen on the left), the 'arms' that the sails are later attached to (the ones on the upper part) were not facing straight forward, but they were at a certain angle. It's because the grooves at the top of the lower part were not in the right places (like, say 12, 3, 6 and 9 on the clock): Instead, they were slightly off, still at the correct distance from each other, but not at the right angle with the rest of the mast. The only thing I could do not to make it look silly was not to insert the upper part into the lower part completely, leaving some space so that the upper part does not sit in the grooves. That molding mistake was repeated in both masts in one of my BSBs, and I still have those masts used in one of my MOCs. I can also take pictures of those, but that would require partially disassembling my ship. Anyone noticed those things too?
  23. It looks like a great way to use your Pirate LEGO! I always thought that playing games (miniature wargaming, board games - you name it) with LEGO is perhaps one of the best ways to use it! This will soon be blogged on Classic-Pirates.com as a cool and creative idea to spend your time with LEGO. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  24. This is obviously pure speculation, but let us blog this so that more people can be made aware of it! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  25. That's a huge and truly magnificent vessel! I love the red sails. Expect it to be blogged soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
