OK, I found some old photos in my parents' album and scanned them. The pictures are quite blurry, but hey, it's just for fun! For the same reason, don't be harsh on me - I was like 9 or maybe 10 when I built those! These houses are supposed to form a street, I remember I loved building streets, but as I didn't have any street baseplates, I just built houses (well, sort of) and placed them in a row. At the top you can also see what looks like two race cars preparing for the race, and a police car, a police motorcycle and a horse (maybe it was supposed to be a police horse, I'm not sure). At the bottom part you can see something that looks like a small spaceship, and the big and very colourful vehicle in the middle part of the picture is a bus - I remember building those quite frequently. The first building on the left is actually a set, so obviously it looks much better than everything that surrounds it. Right next to it you can see what I think are two more houses, one of which is also very colourful, and the other one - the blue one - seems to be partially demolished, I'm not sure what my intentions were here. One more shot of the whole thing, and the last picture I found. You can see the front of the bus here. Now that I think of it, the blue building was probably supposed to be a bus stop - note the raised platform that allows minifigs to get onto the bus. What you see here was probably half of all my LEGO collection at the time, if not more than a half. As mentioned earlier, those things were built by me about 20 years ago, when I was about 9 or 10, and despite their obviously poor quality, I'm happy that I found these photos as I feel quite nostalgic about them. And I actually had the courage to post them here!

Yeah, that's the flip side of the coin I was going to refer to as well. Nowadays you can post whatever you want, but you can also study lots and lots of MOCs online, thus finding inspiration. When I was a kid, I could rely solely on my imagination. Nowadays, you can find tons of MOCs to inspire you, as well as read about all kinds of building techniques and so on. Internet has changed a lot of things, inluding the way LEGO fans do what they do.

I visit Eurobricks every day. I may not post every day, but I'm here anyway. I used to post on a number of message boards, I'm even a moderator of one (not LEGO related), but Eurobricks is the only one I visit on a daily basis. So yeah, you can call me an addict.

What a great topic! Somehow I haven't seen it before... And what a coincidence that it is today that I'm visiting my parents, I'll try to dig up some photos of my so called MOCs from early 1990's. Of course we didn't have a digital camera back then, but I remember taking some pictures of my LEGO with my analog camera. I'll try to find and scan them, their quality won't be that good but I'll do my best. But be warned - they look like a LEGO MOCer's bad dream. On a side note - when I was a kid, Internet was not a popular and easily available medium, so when kids built their MOCs, they could only show them to their friends and family. I remember how much I loved my creations as a kid, despite them being quite ugly (not to me back then, of course). If I were like 10 or 11 years old today, I'd probably post my MOCs somewhere on the web as well, not realising how ugly they'd be. What I'm trying to say is, the kids of today can easily learn to post MOCs online, even before learning how to build them properly. I guess people of my age were actually a bit lucky that we could not share our MOCs with the world, showing how poor builders we were and possibly getting criticised for what we thought back then were awesome creations. Back then we kept them to ourselves, but at least our dignity was intact. I hope I'm making at least some sense here.

Absolutely amazing. I think now would be a good time to blog it, so... [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]...soon!

2) Caveman, DJ & Gorilla Suit Guy Entry (Build by Yatkuu) 1 point 20) Nurse, Surfer & Space Villain Entry (Build by Darkblane) 1 point 23) Spaceman, Spartan & Space Alien Entry (Build by Masked Builder) 1 point Personally I really think that an interesting idea is what counts in this category, and all of these are very imaginative! All the entries are great though! Good luck! -

1) Tennis Player Entry (Build by pinioncorp) 1 point - I like that nice, classic-town feel to it. 22) Fisherman Entry (Build by turambar) 1 point - looks great and I like the ecological undertone. 41) Space Alien Entry (Build by Atin) 1 point - I like both horror and sci-fi and this fits into both, and looks awesome Honourable mentions - everyone else! -
The picture with the helicopter is so out of place it's unintentionally funny... I don't know what these guys have been drinkin' or smokin', but I want some of that stuff! The King Of The Seas (main model) actually isn't that bad though, granted the flags and sails are ugly, but to be honest, I don't like the 2009 version of LEGO Jolly Roger flags and Brickbeard's Bounty's sails either. Of course real LEGO is much better, but the ship's design isn't bad and if it were a MOC made using LEGO pieces, I'd like actually like it.

Very nice trading post you've made! And we can't have a Pirate MOC without a drunk guy BTW, you should really resize those images on Brickshelf - they're soooo big! Anyway,[bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]...soon

Those look really good! I think blogging them would be a good idea. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon

Makes perfect sense, thanks for clarifying this. In that case it's even better than I thought. The blog entry is already up.

Excellent! All the details are just amazing. I'd only change one thing - instead of removing the whole house, I'd make an openable roof or something like that to make the inside part easy to access. That way, when you took pictures of the interior it would not look like they're sitting in the garden. But that's just my take on it, the MOC is still great! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]...soon!

Happy birthday WhiteFang! I wish you all the best and lots and lots of LEGO on this special day!

Here's my entry... Minifigs: Series 1: Robot Series 2: Spartan/Roman Warrior Series 3 (imaginary): Space Alien The space alien and his robot pilot have crash-landed on a planet whose civilization is much less advanced than their own... They crashed on Earth, many many years ago from our point of view - in ancient Rome... They landed in the middle of a square, damaging a fountain and making a certain Roman soldier who was there at the time feel quite puzzled. CLICK HERE to see the inside of the alien spacecraft, with seats for the robot pilot and the (imaginary) space alien. There's a slight overhang here and there (the Roman, the fountain, the spaceship's engine), but it's less than two studs.

While this has been uploaded to Classic-Pirates.com for a few days now, I think we should blog it as well to make more people aware of the comic! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon

I agree this should be left in a separate thread as the LEGO PotC thread has grown huge and messy. It's worth blogging too. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon

[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Dreamweb replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
To celebrate the 3rd anniversary of my comic's premiere (I'm a few days late, but still...), I've prepared new versions of all the episodes released so far. They are much, much better IMO. What's the difference? They're in .pdf format now, easy to read and also easy to print (in A4 format). And now each page contains several pictures, while in the old version each picture was a separate link, which might've been a tiresome thing to view. This new version is definitely the ultimate one and THE version to be read. If you are not familiar with my comic yet, or if you are and want to read it once more, the links below are exactly the right place to go! I've also edited the first post to include new links. Old links are still there too. Now all I need is to find some time to work on my comic's website, but that's another matter. Please also note that my comic series has evolved since the early episodes. New episodes look better IMO, as with time I was getting more and more experienced with the use of my camera. Also the backgrounds have improved since the early episodes, where they didn't look that good I think. So, without further ado, here are the links to .pdf versions of all 27 episodes released so far. You can view them in the browser, or you can download them to your computer and read from there, or even print them if you wish. Episode 1: The Valour (premiere: Jan 21 2008) Episode 2: Get To Know Me (premiere: Jan 28 2008) Episode 3: The Uncharted Island (premiere: Feb 4 2008) Episode 4: Come Along (premiere: Feb 11 2008) Episode 5: The Encounter (premiere: Feb 18 2008) Episode 6: The End Of The Beginning (premiere: Feb 25 2008) Episode 7: The Unexpected Guest Part 1 (premiere: May 19 2008) Episode 8: The Unexpected Guest Part 2 (premiere: May 26 2008) Episode 9: Low Men In Blue Coats (premiere: Jun 23 2008) Episode 10: New Leeds Part 1 (premiere: Jun 30 2008) Episode 11: New Leeds Part 2 (premiere: Jul 7 2008) Episode 12: The Beast Island (premiere: Jul 28 2008) Episode 13: The Fall (premiere: Sep 29 2008) Episode 14: The Maze Part 1 (premiere: Oct 6 2008) Episode 15: The Maze Part 2 (premiere: Oct 13 2008) Episode 16: The Turmoil (premiere: Apr 13 2009) Episode 17: Venom (premiere: Apr 20 2009) Episode 18: This Is Home (premiere: Apr 27 2009) Episode 19: The Jinx Part 1 (premiere: Jun 22 2009) Episode 20: The Jinx Part 2 (premiere: Jun 29 2009) Episode 21: The Meeting (premiere: Nov 25 2009) Episode 22: Confession (premiere: Dec 10 2009) Episode 23: Get To Know Them (premiere: Dec 25 2009) Episode 24: Cemetery In My Mind (premiere: Jan 21 2010) Episode 25: Laurantia (premiere: Mar 1 2010) Episode 26: Laurantia Part 2 (premiere: Jul 1 2010) Episode 27: Laurantia Part 3 (premiere: Aug 6 2010) -
Here's my entry: Character: Snowboarder Theme: Town/Sports The chairlift takes the snowboarder to the top of the mountain, where she can begin her another daring ride. The safety bar and the foot rest really work - they can be lifted up to allow the passenger to get out of the chair when she's reached her destination. On the next picture you can see the chair with the restraining bar pushed up: (maybe the snowboarder just jumped out and started her ride prematurely?) And HERE you can see the chair with a minifig sitting in it (I didn't use the snowboarder here, just some random guy). There is a slight overhang caused by the hanging chair, but it's smaller than 2 studs. I can provide you with pictures to clarify it if you wish. Once again, good luck everyone!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion
Dreamweb replied to eiker86's topic in Special LEGO Themes
While those series 5 minifigs look a bit recycled, I still see some good-looking characters there! Definitely gonna get some of them. I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the "lizard suit guy" reminds me of Aquamaniac - Hannibal Smith anyone? -
While my question may seem stupid, actually I don't think it is. Is the size limit 800x600 the limit of width and height respectively? Or is it a size limit regardelss of how the picture is oriented? I mean, can I post a picture that is 600x800? I wish to post my entry for category A today and just wanted to make sure...
-
Thanks for your comments! Yes, it's simple, but it was a short build, it was just the first thing that came to my mind when I got the Roman minifig, so I decided to proceed with that!

It's not supposed to look even remotely like LEGO, because it's not LEGO. That being said, I don't like the Megabloks set at all. There's even a review of that set somewhere in the forum, I remember reading it, anyone can dig it up if they want. I think that tower thing is built of 2 huge wall pieces. And I agree, there's not much point in comparing these things anyway, both cases represent a completely different approach to a toy.
