While my question may seem stupid, actually I don't think it is. Is the size limit 800x600 the limit of width and height respectively? Or is it a size limit regardelss of how the picture is oriented? I mean, can I post a picture that is 600x800? I wish to post my entry for category A today and just wanted to make sure...

Thanks for your comments! Yes, it's simple, but it was a short build, it was just the first thing that came to my mind when I got the Roman minifig, so I decided to proceed with that!

It's not supposed to look even remotely like LEGO, because it's not LEGO. That being said, I don't like the Megabloks set at all. There's even a review of that set somewhere in the forum, I remember reading it, anyone can dig it up if they want. I think that tower thing is built of 2 huge wall pieces. And I agree, there's not much point in comparing these things anyway, both cases represent a completely different approach to a toy.

It's always good to see come nice customs! Expect them to be frontpaged on Classic-Pirates.com soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]

Nice review. Those Belville sets are often a good source of valuable parts, while their overall design is not that appealing, especially to those of us who prefer System LEGO. I for one think Belville is not bad, and the figures are pretty cool. But I consider them part packs rather than actual sets, and their original price is too high. That's why I voted average.

I've never met Zorro in person, but he was the one who gave me my rights as Pirate blogger, which I have to this day. He also taught me how to do the job for a short while. He was also a very friendly person and a passionate LEGO fan. We will not forget him, that's for sure. I wish his family all the best for these tough times.

Some of these are very big! They've been resized on the website, download them and you'll see how huge they are. Those preliminary images are a mess... Mixture of yellow and fleshtones, sometimes within one minifig, I see a lot of torsos from 2009 Pirate line which will be eventually switched to some new ones, and they go with fleshie heads here... Some of them do look like a MOCer's bad dream. No wonder LEGO doesn't want them to go public. Some of the sets themselves look weird too. 4181 looks like some random bricks thrown together and called an island. I do hope the final product will be WAY better. For now, the Queen Anne's Revenge certainly stands out as the best of the bunch and I actually wouldn't mind if this was the final thing. -
Aren't all Technic figures yellow-skinned? They'd look weird mixed with Belville figs. They are slightly smaller than Belville adults, but that's OK - not all people are equally tall after all. And their clothes are way too modern for your purposes, but that can be solved by decals or whatnot. But the skin colour difference kinda bothers me. Siegfried once posted a nice comparison picture: Or do you mean attaching Belville heads to Techfig bodies and things like that? I'm not sure if this can be done, as I don't have any Belville figs... yet. And I think I've sold all 3 of my Techfigs at some point in the past anyway.

That's a bit weird that they would switch from more to less articulated figs. I guess they wanted to improve aesthetics at the expense of functionality.

I couldn't help but smile while reading this thread. A few days ago I ordered some Belville stuff, and it's my first time as well. I will receive it soon. And I was actually using the search engine to find a topic like this one, and found none, and then Tanotrooper actually started one! What year did they switch from old to new figs? Am I mistaken or is there a slight difference in skin colour as well between the new and old ones? I'm a newbie to the subject so excuse the silly questions. Have you seen this Amazon Army MOC (my recent Brickshelf find)? Looks kinda cool. Let me also add that I found the whole Belville theme to be very inspiring, it has lots of cool accessories and a great MOCing potential! The figs are so much cooler than the 4+ crap. I always skipped the Belville pages in my LEGO catalogues, and now I think I actually find the big, realistic Belville figs cooler than the stardard SYSTEM minifigs. Don't get me wrong, minifigs will always have a special place in my heart, but Belville figs are just so cool with all this realism and articulation. I guess I'm definitely turning to the dark pink side. Oh, and with the dissection thing, I also found this gallery - creepy, ain't it? EDIT: I just realised these ones are Sir Nadroj's - good work!

This fort looks cute. Maybe it isn't the best word to describe a pirate fort, but I hope the pirates won't mind... Oh, and... [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon

It was only recently that I aquired the Roman/Spartan collectible minifig. Right away I thought about the movie "Life Of Brian" and decided to build something from it. I settled for this small vignette-like MOC, it shows the search scene of Matthias' house by the Romans. If only I had 30 more Romans, I could build the rest of the scene. - You know the penalty laid down by Roman law for harboring a known criminal? - No. - Crucifixion! - Oh. - Nasty, eh? - Could be worse. - What you mean "Could be worse"? - Well, you could be stabbed. - Stabbed? Takes a second. Crucifixion lasts hours. It's a slow, horrible death. - Well, at least it gets you out in the open air. - You're weird! Some more images: And the complete thing: You can watch the scene in question on YouTube .

Using SNOT for it just to be there is lame IMO. SNOT, like everything else, should be used when it is required to achieve a certain desired effect. For example, when I want to make a flat surface, like water, it's easier to use SNOT cause you only need bricks or plates for that. Without SNOT, you'd need a hell lot of tiles, and you just may do not have enough, especially for a MOC of decent size. But when I see a wall or something that could have been just as well built studs up, but was built with SNOT instead, because, you know, SNOTing is cool and all that, I can't help but ask myself "Why get into all this trouble?". Some very cool things can be made with SNOT, it's just important to keep in mind that it's the way your MOC looks like that matters, not what fancy techniques you used to build it. I see a good analogy with popular music here. 95 % of people who listen to a certain song don't give a crap whether the guy who plays the guitar is a virtuoso or not, and whether he uses fancy and hard-to-learn tricks or just plays two simple chords throughout the whole tune. For them all that matters is whether they like the song and find it catchy, or not. Just my two pennies' worth...

As far as Captain's Cabin goes, I was expecting a complete room - like some MOCs we've seen in our captain's cabin contest... This set is pretty much a minifig pack with some extra accessories. The Queen Anne's Revenge looks great! I don't think it's as big as the Imperial Flagship, like someone stated, seems more like the size of SES to me. I'll definitely get this one! -

I see some nice sets here! Since this has been published on a toy store's website, I think we can blog it... [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon! -
Yeah, I was thinking about the series one magician, unfortunately I don't have one so I had to make one myself. Thanks for your comments everyone! Actually I came up with the idea of the rope thingy a year ago or so, but it was only recently that I decided to turn this into a magic show and add those other tricks.

Thanks for your comments. If you're interested, the Brickshelf gallery is now public and can be seen HERE, but all pictures from the folder are visible in this thread anyway.

Great little MOC! Nice details, I like how you used that blackboard piece. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon!

NOTE: All the pictures seen in this post are 100% real. No Photoshop or any image editing (copying, pasting elements of one picture to another etc.) was used! This is real stuff! - Hello everyone, it's magic time! I am the Magician, and this is my beautiful partner - Cassandra! - Sit and relax, for now you will witness some true LEGO magic! - First we shall do some good old-fashioned levitation. We shall begin by levitating some objects. Please observe. I'm holding one end of the rope, and my partner is holdind the other one. - Now she releases her end and... voila! - The rope is so steady you can walk on it, as presented by Cassandra: - And now is the time for human levitation! I shall make my partner float in the air... - Up we go! - Some fancy tricks in the air... - Hope you're not dizzy? - Enough, get back from that ceiling! - Alright, next thing we're gonna do is invisibility. I shall make Cassandra disappear! - First just the legs... - And a little more... - Ta-da! She's gone! - Don't worry, she's reappearing! - Now I shall make Cassandra grow bigger! - And finally the all time classic. That's it - a rabbit out of a hat! - Whoa! Tha't a big rabbit! - Eeeek! - I shall make him fly away! - Woohoo! That's all the magic for now, hope you enjoyed it! Any comments, as always, are welcome!

The sails look much better on the BrickWorld picture. They look pretty worn out on the first photo. Still, it's a good-looking vessel and I think it deserves a place in our blog. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp] ...soon!

That kind of sucks they did that. But thanks for the info!
