  1. I think a pirate ship is generally more popular among kids, it's what you see most in cartoons as well. I don't think historical context was relevant for the theme back then, more likely they focused on how cartoons presented ships. But that's just what I think, It never bothered me that the pirate ships were bigger than the god guys' ships, after all I make MOC ships.
  2. That's strange, my box doesn't seem to be blessed with that text... All it sais (in the left) is "this ship does not float" in several languages European version ? I noticed that your picture of a box doesn't show the "firing cannon" feature.
  3. I'll check it out asap, my SES box must be somewhere on the attic, hold fast
  4. I certainly hope there will come some new pirate sets but I think it's very possible that we won't get more than the recent collectable minifigures (pirate captain and conquistador). I also noticed there have been few new Pirate-related mocs lately, perhaps there is generally less interest in pirates (and therefor less chance that LEGO will produce new sets).
  5. Very nice, I mean, very very nice, I love how you integrated the brown frogs, from what I can see this looks pretty awesome so far. I don't know much about historical context but I must say I haven't seen such curved frame on deck before. I like it though, looking forward to more updates.
  6. hehe, I'm a big fan of studded ropes, simply because they're easy to use and I'm pretty lazy when it comes to rigging
  7. resolution = 1680 x 1050 sorry, no Idea where to find that. Safari Version 5.0.6
  8. Thanks, long time. Your spanker boom looks stronger I'd say and the use of that dish within the mast is great. I share your love for the Interceptor
  9. And here it is: And while I was at it I took this shot of the brig engaging with Farore's Wind Either the sails of the brig are too big or the sails of the frigate are too small... or maybe both Btw, you can expect an update on Farore's Wind as well, I reworked the stern a bit, did some things on the deck,... Soon my ships will go to war, I have a very decent fleet now A frigate, brig-of-war, merchant brig, barquentine, sloop-of-war, a huge ghostship and an East-indaman in the making And ofcourse some smaller ships not worth mentioning. One of these days I'll take some epic battle pictures, I have been building these ships for so long now, it's time to play with them, first I'll make the traditional redcoat VS bluecoat scene, I'll devide my ships into these two groups...
  10. Nice, I love this, did you intentionally use a white skeleton in the actual model?
  11. I completely aggree with you on this, I also consider minifigure scale to be that scale in which a minifigure's length matches that of a real human. Because of that minifigures appear to be too wide (fat) and might make a ship look crowded. Anyway, I forgot to mention earlier but I really like how you made the keel near the prow, my favorite section
  12. [pid][/pid] 141C 12 gun brig Elizabeth. The equivalent of the Interceptor... Or you could say it's based on the Lady Washington, which plays the Interceptor in Pirates of the Caribbean A 12 gun Brig, built on (old) prefab hulls with three midsections (the hull from my Technic ship infact, too bad, that was one unique ship. I used the technic components to build a remote controlled car but that's a story for later). Anyway... As you may notice this ship does indeed have the proportions of the famous movie ship (location of the cannon ports, masts and decks) but it does not match its colors. For this ship I worked with whatever parts I had left. I didn't have enough tan for instant so I used white, the green cannon ports are from the Skull's Eye Schooner. Using green on a ship is risky and the ship still needed a color for the upper parts and railing. I tried different colors but eventually only dark red resulted in a balanced color scheme. A (dark) tan deck would have been nice but unfortunatly I do not have enough of that color so I used the traditional gray like the old official ships use. And now time for an interesting building Idea: Note how the spanker was attached, it's a very functional construction. Maybe I should make a video to show how well it works... I thought this was nice. Now to the lifeboat! The stern is kind of simple, I didn't have any square lattice windows left A look into the cabin... ...which is fully accessible ofcourse And now it's time for comparisons From left to right we have: the Beauty, the Intersector, the Christine (which is being worked on as well) and this merchant Brig. These ships have all been build with the same building technique, a simple construction that needs only few hinges allows me to make fleet instead of a singe ship (ofcourse I have a couple of prefab hulls ready). In fact I have a another unused hull laying here, if I would demolish my frigate Farore's Wind I could use the parts to build two ships. But I kind of like my frigate too much to demolish it Merchant Barquentine against Merchant Brig, who would win ? Brig against Brig, same question ? And now a question far more interesting; which of these beauties has the nicest butt ?
  13. This sounds interesting, I know something you might find usefull, I recently ordered some interesting printed tiles, I'm not sure from which set they came from. Anyway: link There's also one that sais North, South and West. The Idea is to place those tiles on a lego Dice (But I'm guessing they originally appeared on a dice in whatever set they are from) Seems pretty cool for navigating ships
  14. Somehow she looks better than before, is that possible ? Let's hope she stays in place this time The most interesting it sais is "Search the monky" (it really sais that, I personally find that a great add to the description, interactivity in the museum )
  15. Aeneas? I thought Romulus and Remus founded Rome...well, that's what I learned at school Anyway, there are far more important matters that the founding of Rome, this magnificent Ship for example She's beautiful, I love the modularity, I didn't expect that from a ship with such refined hull, interior would be too much to ask Love it all the way
  16. This is very well done, I love the use of tiles in the walls for the brick-effect, especially since there excist such an easy alternative that seduces a lot of builders (the brick bricks). Great detail all over

    WIP:ship

It's pretty stable, I used wide hinges (car roof hinges) and the decks fix the sides pretty much in place. There is this downside I should mention though, when viewed from a low angle my ships looks a bit unfinished, you can consider this technique as a less accurate variant on CGH's technique.

    WIP:ship

If you don't have a lot of jumpers and hinges there's an alternative that involves only a few hinges (just 4 already suffice) (link). Although it might not work very well for a 3 deck ship Minifigure legs can also be usefull to create angles but they leave some gaps (link).
  19. It looks nice so far, I like the colors, I froze my big projects as well, I'm more in the mood for smaller ships at the moment The catheads look great in that last picture. I'm curious to those other ships
  20. Hull length= 46 cm beam=12,5 cm Weight = 1 kg Square-Rigged Sail Area = 900 cm2 Lateen-Rigged Sail Area = 400 cm2 12 lb Long Gun x 12 When I open the tables it does say there's something it can't solve, yet there are results for draft, speed and square movements. This is kind of lame but perhaps I should just make the ship heavier...by litterally putting some weight in the hold I made the Intersector with quite a minimalistic vision.
  21. I'd love a vignette like this on my desk, great details, I like how it recoils.
  22. That's actually pretty realistic I think, it has been a while since we saw Islanders/indians/... kind of theme so a return would be most appreciated
  23. Looks pretty good, a bit rough and chunky though. That defines a brig all right, number of guns is not relevant
  24. Question: in the XL tables you need to decide wether your ship is built below waterline or not... how does this work for a ship built on prefab hulls ? And another thing, so far my ship doesn't seem to be very fast; only 5,1 knots, maybe that's because I don't have enough sails Btw, it's the Intersector I'm talking about. Just to be sure, the beam is the widest part of the hull right ? I also weighed my ship and then I see the cannons make up additional weight, it's kind of strange because my ship is 76 tons (scaled) while the cannons make 24,8 tons. confusing proportions I must say, maybe I did something wrong.
  25. Very nice, I dreamt of something like that when I had my first Rock Raiders set only it was brown (to match the builders and rock monster). Great job
