  1. So much detail in such a small space! Love the windows!
  2. The armour of the elves is somewhat strange. Those of Feanor's house are described as wearing fell armour, tall helms, with red swords- not exactly a shining paragons of virtue. Fingolfin's house tended to be described as more beautific, with shining armour, diamond and sapphire encrusted swords. However, much of this weaponry and armour was forged in Valinor. Serried ranks if armoured elves were the norm in the Silmarillion- but that was the Ages of the Elves, and their wars on Morgoth. Makes sense in that respect. Once we get to the second and third age, elves take a back seat, being mainly allies to the far more numerous men- it was the opposite in the first age. Most of the armour they possess would be relics, or made by Celebrimbor's elves. The woodland elves have less of a need for heavy armour- it's easier to fight in lighter armour in forests. The elves at Helms Deep are not present in the books- Legolas merely wishes for a hundred elf archers. If we go by the books, armoured elves mostly appear it the Silmarillion, and hardly at all in LOTR. However, armoured elves are a staple of PJ's version. I'd suspect that we'll see some when we get sets for Bo5A. I really like the elves, I'm not bothered that we get 3, to be honest, I build sets, they stay built for a week, then I repurpose the parts for MOCs. All in all, I like the minifigures. With regards to the Necromancer, I do see parallels between Lego's version (and thus the film version) and Games Workshops version. Note that Peter Jackson is friends with two of the main sculptors on the LOTR/Hobbit stuff at GW, they even appear as extras in ROTK, so he may have drawn inspiration from that. Just a bunch of not particularly cohesive thoughts, I'm not awake enough.
  3. Stink like one too. I can smell you over the delightful smell of our bogs.
  4. Thanks buddy! What can I say, I love Tolkein!
  5. Aye, it's a great format! And on the subject of sig-figs not appearing much, Vladivus has only been in one small MOC so far. This will be his chance to shine! Especially as he has a shiny new (well, not really shiny!) outfit.
  6. @jeroenaa don't worry I wasn't too helpful myself initially! I think you can start building anytime, you just can't post an entry till you've been assigned a side (and obviously not knowing your side may affect the sort of build ideas you have). Having said that, we have till January to post entries, so speed isn't necessary. I must admit though, one of the challenges fits a build I've had planned for a while, so I could potentially crack out an entry pretty quickly. I reckon quality is the thing to aim for, you want to give your side as much of a fighting chance as possible!
  7. Sorry! What I meant by it is, Nocturnus has pretty much anything you can think of, from zombies to orcs, from vampires to evil elves, from dwarves to humans, from spider people to whatever your imagination throws out. Consider maybe faction colours (red and gold for Nocty loyalists and white and black for the black spire), but other than that, it's pretty much the rule of cool; there's no hard and fast rules. Nocturnus hasn't ever had much of a unified military force, unlike the other guilds, so there's not a standardised uniform. This really helps, because I can build a rag tag band of individuals without having to have multiples of certain pieces. The other guilds, even if it's not totally prescriptive, have a style that's associated- Avalonian knights, Mitgardian Nordic influences, Kaliphlin desert robes (note that isn't the be all and end all of styles). Nocturnus is dark, weird and evil looking, a home for those who would be hunted as monsters in other guilds. What I really hope we see is everyone's imaginations run wild, and we get some cool Nocty figs out of it. For example, my sig-fig is a half vampire, who leads an army whose core is zombies. However, he's got a bunch of werewolves, skeletons, orcs, Night Elves, cyclops, and other assorted races under his command. Ranged against him are the Black Spire forces of human Varylioans (what's the actual plural of Varylio?), Drow, and orcs, plus whatever else allies themselves to Ravaage. Hope that's a little more helpful! :)
  8. I'm GUESSING that it'll be posted in the second post of the challenge thread, as that is looking like it's going to be a list of participants. The figs should look cool!
  9. Wouldn't have it any other way! Now to get planning!
  10. @ZC Category A, is it single minifigure vs single minifigure, or can it be multiples on each side? This is the (paraphrased) conversation and the result from the tribes thread:
  11. @mpoh98 check out the pinned challenge thread!
  12. Heh. I always knew Burress was weak. I pledge my support to Lord Ssilyrrlith and Team Nocturnus. Pretty sure I can crack out an entry for each category. I knew the fig barf I just had would come in handy.
  13. Get that hair out of your ears, young lady.
  14. Death will take you all in the end. Fortunately, Nocturnians can cheat death. Join ussssssssss.
  15. Awesome, the fig looks suitably evil, and the whole thing is creepy!
  16. I like it, but as Bk says, I'd have made the ground a different colour. The buildings kinda blend into the ground, which is a shame, as they really evoke stables in my mind!
  17. Ah awesome deskp! Lego have done a pretty good job so far with regards to minifigures designs. Now to see the ones we don't have yet!
  18. I can barely wait. Let Nocturnus reign supreme! In the meantime, I have 3 MOCs to be photographed (3 linked by a story MOCs I might add!) so expect them soon.
  19. I'll definitely be picking these up. I love the sets, even if people have quibbles with them. So much goodness for me.
  20. Whoa this is plain awesome. So much goodness.
  21. Schweeeet. Looking forward to the first challenge!
  22. @Legorski ZC says soon. @Eleinad I don't think that's all of Abyssian, the way I understand it, it's built on a series of those rock pillars, so there could be more. I always assumed that was Ssilyrrlith personal dwelling. I'm not sure if his throne room would actually fit. But don't quote me on this.
  23. That wall is awesome! I like the story too!
  24. It's got Abyssian. Do you mean like the others have Albion, Valholl and Petrea?
  25. I think he said it's printed on the oval/ovoid shields.
