  1. After they were nowhere to be found for a while, my local TRU restocked the Star Destroyer Microfighter. I promptly bought one and it's definitely one of my favourite from the line.
  2. Well darn, between the LEGO Movie, picking up a 6847 Space Dozer in a charity shop and remembering and (re)reading this thread, I fear I might get nostalgic for sets decades before my time. Maybe it's time for another Bricklink adventure...
  3. 75006 Jedi Starfighter & Kamino. At 5€, I had to stop myself from getting more than one. Apparently this one, the Tantive IV and B-Wing really don't sell.
  4. I already thought they would make a decent enough representation of the FC-1 flechette launcher, though that's perhaps a fairly limited application. EDIT: I thought I remembered how to do links...
  5. The Episode 3 3D release would've come around right about now, right? Well, looks like good figures all round, but some of the builds appear a bit... uninspired, smaller sets in particular. Vulture Droid is apparently comically outsized, Droid Gunship and AT-AP seem suspiciously similar to their previous releases. The Wheel Bike looks pretty neat though...
  6. The Planet sets don't seem to sell all that well here in Germany either, still plenty on shelves in most places and frequently at cut prices, €9.99 instead of the usual €12.99 or so. One problem seems to be that in each wave, some sets seem to sell really well and some not at all (Bespin looks to have found very few buyers, for one) and stores are then left sitting with those when the more popular ones are sold out.
  7. My 7140 X-Wing was in the mail today.
  8. B-Wing, Snowspeeder and Tantive IV planet sets.
  9. Stellar review, long, yes, but the set deserves it. I very much like the little hints on the in-build photos on the bits that'll be important later on and how you come back to those, greatly helps appreciate all the tricks and techniques.
  10. I got one: The Deutsche Reichsbahn Baureihe 61, built in the mid-30ies for the so-called Henschel-Wegman train running at high speed (about 160 km/h) between Berlin and Dresden. It's a bit of an oddity, this one: Being, along with the coaches also specially designed for the train, an attempt to prove the capabilities of steam in the face of emerging diesel power, it was designed with complete streamlining and as a tank engine, meaning it could run the same speed forwards and backwards (and thus make reversing the train easier). Hidden under that streamlining are massive 2.3 metre drivers and a boiler rated for higher pressure than usually used at the time. Two were built, with some slight differences between them and the train performed as expected, its 102-minute record for the route still stands. Both engines were used sparingly during WWII and one ended up in West Germany (and was scrapped in the fifties after an accident), the other in East Germany where parts of it were later used in building the still impressive but somewhat more tame 18 201, an experimental one-off for high speed tests.
  11. Whaaat? Nooo! I always loved how the Scout hasn't been redesigned once since he first appeared. Sure, maybe the design could be improved, but that looks like mediocre customs from years ago. I'd agree that black printing on white would be better because so far, printing on black has never worked right, colours just don't match.
  12. Came looking for another great EB prank on the 1st and wasn't disappointed, most elaborate and outrageous one yet.
  13. If you have it all wired up right, the switch is in "neutral" or "off" in the middle position, while left or right should be forward/back. Which is which depends, according to the instructions, on which way round you have the wires on the box. With that, one whistle (or any noise loud enough) should make it go, the next make it stop. I got this set as part of my dad's old collection, complete with (very slightly battered) instructions. I remember I actually had it completely set up once, it's pretty fun to play around with.
  14. I'd had feeling something like this would happen since the site went international from its former European focus. Oh well, nothing to be done but trying to make the best of it. Avatar adjusted to something more AMERICAN.
  15. Neat, they look like they're for some tabletop wargame.
  16. Very impressive. Looks great so far, in shape and detailing and that crane is pretty darn nice.
  17. Reeeally cool. The brickbuilt ladder is a great touch.
  18. Keep in mind there's also been an AT-ST in the Battle of Endor set, 8038.
  19. Finally caved in and bought Droid Escape.
  20. I've also had my 4502 built and with rubber bands in place since getting it in '04, in and out of sunlight in normal room temperature and all, the bands still seem to be in perfect nick. Those glossy little round ones appear to be pretty darn resilient, and besides, could be easily replaced with others.
  21. I'm actually liking the wider version better, it looks a bit more "right" to me. As for suggestions, Delta-class JV-7 escort shuttle? Same sort of direction, source-wise, and plenty obscure too, I should think.
  22. I think that'll be 94984, 600880, 601607 and 95749, as far as skirt/kilts go. Additionally, 90542, 99464, 50231, 56630, 10904, 42450, 12857, 600815 and 97690 (all sorts of capes and such) have similar issues around minifig necks. Torsos also appear to clip through 97690 at the shoulders, from some angles anyway.
  23. Fantastic MOC, very nicely done with the conflicting source material. Any more obscure ships in the works yet?
  24. Niiiiice shot. I guess it's the light, but it looks like there's a very slight sepia tint to it.
