CopMike, my hero! Nice review, the first really good pics we get of any of the upcoming sets. The pictures of the laid-out pieces are nicely done too. Even though I see that this set is very similar to 6209, I still doubt I can keep myself from buying it. The minifigs and colours are just so sweet.

Great review and also a set I like very much. I still remember when I got mine, I actually wanted to buy the first A-Wing, which was sold out, so a Snowspeeder was bought instead. The set was (like a big part of my collection) taken apart at some point, but I recently rebuilt it with dark blue details instead of the original orange. Still a favourite set, even after eleven years!

Wow. Those minifigs are awesome, Bossk's head is very nicely done and Han's and Boba's faces are perfect. The torso prints in the new style look very good. I fear I might be tempted to buy the set, even though I already have the 2006 version and Jango's.

Very nice review of a nice little set, def. I quite like the Flash Speeder, even though I don't have the set. Also one of the better vehicles in the ancient "Star Wars Battle For Naboo" game. Last picture is hilarious, and very well edited too.

Mid-Scale Republic Gunship & Dropship/AT-TE
Commander_Rob replied to gotoAndLego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wonderful MOCs, I guess my personal favourite is the AT-TE, it just looks right. One question though: Is the connection between the AT-TE and the LAAT/c strong enough to hold the AT-TE when you pick the dropship up? -
Nice shot of C-3PO, smokebelch, brings out the detail nicely. What is that weird bit of light in the background, just off his right arm though? Awesome Obi-Wan picture,cmmdr_neyo, action scenes haven't been done much and the posing of both Kenobi and the droid really makes it.

Another great picture, fenris, the eerie, spooky lighting helps here. Reminds me a bit of this picture of Vader. And of course there are the recruitment posters that once appeared in a Star Wars comic book. Those are sort of ... different though.

Very impressive MOC Svelte and an awesome way to show how the well-designed but sometimes rather small sets of an official line can inspirate a wonderful fan-built model.

And another! Very cool picture, that must have been an epic battle. The tiny specs of ash on the helmet look perfect.

Hilarious picture fenris, the posing is awesome and the lighting is simply brilliant. Looks a lot like some sort of weirdly lightened porn film. Or what those are, er... said to look like...

Awesome build. I also have a slight interest in architecture and I'd guess that this house is one of the most famous in the world and also one that's frequently built out of Lego, but this is probably the best. Looking at your MOC, I see why Lego is used as an architectural planning tool. Wonderful trees and water as well!

Two Star Wars Customs
Commander_Rob replied to Commander_Rob's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks very much for the response, good to see you all like these. I agree, the bazooka is an awesome design, not mine though. Thank you, though I guess the rifle design is just a pretty basic thing, if that's what you mean. Thanks very much. Pictures resized. -
Two Star Wars Customs
Commander_Rob replied to Commander_Rob's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks very much, I wasn't sure about these, compared to some of the other customs here, they are rather amateurish. Thanks! I have one Boba Fett minifig customised as much as Jango, even though he doesn't yet have a rangefinder mounted. I guess I might post him next. The Clonetrooper carries a vibrosword as a weapon for close combat. Sort of like a combat knife, in his typical overkill style, also very useful when operating in jingle environment and might even be helpful when Order 66 is issued. -
What is the biggest set you could build from memory?
Commander_Rob replied to Dreamweb's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I could once built 7420 Thunder Blazer completely from memory, BUT not anymore I think. With a try or two I might manage. Apart from that, my achievements in this area are rather small. I can probably build most Star Wars battlepack vehicles without instructions and (thanks to a lot of alternate-model building) the collection of Daily Mirror Star Wars promotionals. -
Wow. Very nice. The tree is so cool in it's simplicity. Happy easter to everybody!

I finally got round to photograph some of my custom minifigs. For a start, here are two of my personal favourites. One thing ahead: I know that using decals might produce better results, but, cheap as I am, I don't buy any. So I have to rely on my painting skills. The Special Operations Clonetrooper is trained for all kinds of special missions for the Republic forces. He is heavily armed (overarmed, I admit) and can operate in a variety of environments. This fig originates from my love for Scouttrooper armor and the fact that orange is my favourite colour. Customised here are the helmet and legs, which are painted and the use of a trans-blue head to simulate a "glowing" visor, similar to Republic Commandos. The rocket launcher is pedro's simple yet awesome design. The second minifig is Jango Fett. While the original fig is well detailed, I always felt there was room for improvement. I didn't like the colour of the arms and legs (a sort of pale purple) which is fairly accurate to the movie, but I don't like it. So here is looks over accuracy and painted Han Solo legs to give the impression of Jango's dual armored boots and dual holsters. The helmet is modified to mount a targeting rangefinder and the jetpack is painted as well. A thin, black piece of yarn simulates the fuel line from the jetpack to the wrist-mounted flamethrower. The pistols are old-type sprayguns, which I think look a lot more like Jango's guns then revolves. Here, he duels Mace Windu: Comments and criticism welcome!

Should this question have been asked and answered before, I apologize, I couldn't find a thread relevant to this question. I am sure you have come across this: In a Lego set, parts that will not be visible on them final model will often be built in very different colours from the rest. If this is done in a MOC, I see the point, using whatever parts you have to build the inner structure instead of using more "precious" parts that you might need for the exterior certainly makes sense. But why in official sets? For example, why are these pieces inside the Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder yellow and blue when the rest of the model is mostly white and grey? (Picture from Rufus' outstanding review of the set.) Does anybody know the reason? Are certain colours cheaper to produce? Or is it intended as some sort of help, e.g. "if you see strange colour that don't belong there, you built something wrong"?

Very nice, this set really needed an improvement. It seems that every TIE cockpit is very different, standard TIE Fighters from past sets at least had some printed tiles in there.
-
Those are kinda' cool, even though I usually just have plain-coloured, boring socks, I guess I couldn't resist this.
-
Nice, I might actually buy that. Bionicle has always been one of my secret favourite theme besides Clickits.

Thank god I was prepared for this after actually believing an April fools joke on the radio (pay a small amount of money for every e-mail you send, people were shocked). Otherwise I might even have believed you. A pink Mandalorian. How dare you? Burn the the blasphemer!

Brilliant review, Rufus. Even if I'll never get the set (takes too much space, not very useful to me), it is great to read your review and see all the clever techniques used here. And I must say, the last picture really had me laughing. I can imagine the Imperials weren't particularly pleased with that!

That's beautiful, especially the first few pages with the quotes and minifig closeups.
