Great MOC. I suggest you to put 6 cannons instead 3, and a functional anchor, but is a great MOC anyway!!!!

Thoughts while building The Brick Bounty
Captain Roger replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
I agree with you. It was a pleasure to talk about this In any case, I prefer 1989-1995 sets to newer waves, even 2009 and 2015 waves gave us really cool improvements: better minifigs, new and better accesories (golden cups are much better than that old yellow cups, same about old and new cannons, and you are right, bottles and spyglass are a nice novelties). Ah, and Eldorado fortress included a transparent cup, no yellow cup. About animals, 2009 alligators have better color than 1994-1997 alligators, and the alligator of the 2015 treasure island is much better than the older if we talk about morphology. About shark, the best shark is included in 10679 Pirate Treasure Hunt, because it has gills. I don't like the shark included in Brickbeard's bounty because it was childish with that eyebrows. And 1989-1996 parrots are better than 2009 parrots, but I'm glad TLC changed the parrots in 2009 wave, because there are different parrot species in real life, and now we have the posibility of using 2 parrot species in the LEGO Pirate universe. And of course 2009 fishes are a great novelty -
Thoughts while building The Brick Bounty
Captain Roger replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
Yeah, and that old style was better because sets were more detailed. Eldorado fortress was much better than both 2009 and 2015 Soldier's fort. Both Brick Bounty and Brickbeards bounty are poorer ships compared with BSB or SES. And of course, Imperial Trading Post, Rock Island Refuge and Skull Island were great sets, and there aren't sets like those in 2009 and 2015 waves. Sadly, you are right. Old 1989-1997 pirate sets were really useful to play. I don't think 2009 and 2015 sets offer more posibilities. I Think if a set is detailed, it offers more posibilities, so old sets were better to play than 2009 and 2015 waves. For example, Eldorado fortress has 2 canons and 12 cannonballs, 2009 Soldier's fortress only one cannon and 2 cannonballs. Ah, and 2015 fortress is really small, so it offers less posibilities than both 2009 and 1989 sets. I disagree. We have to focus in best points of each wave, and express our opinions in forums. Then, TLC could read our posts and release best products Well, I agree about the 1996 wave was really poor, and even 2009 and 2015 waves are better. But I must admit Pirates Perilous Piftall and was a great set. Shipwreck Island was a nice set too. But both 2009 and 2015 pirate ships are better that RBR, and soldiers sets in 1996 were scarce (only 2 sets, a one-cannon ship and a little tower with only one minifig). In 2009 ana 2015 waves, we have cool soldiers sets. No, There aren't more detailed. Only 2010 Imperial Flagship and Brick Bounty and Brickbeard's Bounty cabins are more detailed. 2009 and 2015 sets have less cannons, less cannonballs, less space, and BB and BBB decks are really empty compared with BSB and SES. I agree about this, specially about minifigs and cannons. 2009 and 2015 minifigs are MUCH better than 1989-1996 minifigs. And I prefer the Dark Pearl Grey cannons to the classic grey cannons. Nostalgia is a bad thing because some people would prefer worse things if that worse things were part of their childness...but is not my case. I prefer to keep the good points of each wave. For example, I changed all 1992 redcoats from my Imperial Trading post and replaced them with 2009 redcoats. I changed all 1989 pirates from my BSB and replaced them with 2009 pirates. And of course, I replace all my 1989-1996 cannons for 2009 cannons. So I have the best point of each wave in my collection. -
My preferences: 1. 70409 Shipwreck Defense Reasons: more accesories (bottle, diamonds, fish, crow's nest and jolly roger) 2. 70411 Treasure Island Reasons: this was hard, because the 2009 set has an imperial guard flag, a golden coffer, and chromed coins. But finally I voted the 2014 set because I like the female pirate. By the way, 2015 jolly roger is much better than 2009's 3. 6242 Soldier's Fort & 6240 Kraken Attackin' Reasons: 2015 fortress is, in my opinion, a bad set because jail lacks a wall. 2009 fortress was more detailed than 2015 4. 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty Reasons: same reasons as given in the thread "battle of the bountys" 5. Chess 2009 Reasons: I don't like that officers without hat. 2009 officers had tricornes, so I prefer the 2009 chess

Nice set. I don't like that childish Jolly Roger of the boat's flag, but this is the only bad point. The fact that the skeleton is an old style-skeleton surprised me.

[Poll] Which one is the better bluecoat officer?
Captain Roger replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in LEGO Pirates
Tricorne of course!! No doubt about it -
I vote "Below average". This is the 4th best pirate ship. I think this is the ranking: Black Seas Barracuda Skull Eye's Schooner Brickbeard's Bounty The Brick Bounty Redbeard runner Renegade Runner Cross bone Clipper In my opinion, is a shame that TLC released 3 better ships before this new ship. Renegade Runner and Cross bone clipper were worse ships, but they weren't "star sets". In 1993 SES was a star sets, Renegade Runner not. In 1996-1997 RBR was a star set, CBC not. But TBB was released as the absolutely star set of Lego Pirates 2015, so I'd like it would be much better.

Which LEGO Pirate captain is your favorite?
Captain Roger replied to Captain Roger's topic in LEGO Pirates
We aren't sure that he is a captain. Like I said in 26 November 2012: Well, I have already replied about if Pete is actually a Captain or not. About if he is called Pete, I took that name because in the previous poll about our favourite Captain, created in 2009 by General Armendariz, he called that minifig Captain Pete, you can look that old thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24717 I guess is an unnoficial name, like Steve, the guy who appears in Imperial Trading Post and Skull Eye's Schooner. EB user DoubleT called him 'Steve' in a 2005 thread, and now, all of us call him 'Steve'. I guess not. I guess that name was invented by General Armendariz. By the way, I guess if I have included Captain Pete in the list, I should add this guy too: So I'm going to add him right now. Remember that you can delete your vote and vote again if you want to change your vote -
Great set. I Love Eldorado Fortress, but I think this is still better!!!! And I think people usually like ED more than ITP, and I don't understand why because ITP is bigger, have more minifigs, more cannons (one more), and a merchant ship.

small and simple, but nice set. I remember that 1996-1997 sets with new pirate minifigs, spaniards and skeletons (pirate sets released before 1996 didn't include skeletons except to Rocky Reef). That could be the beggining of a great pirate era. Redbeard Runner and Armada Flagship were poorer than its predecesors, but there were nice sets like Skeleton Crew, Volcano island, Shipwreck island, etc. In 1996-1997 I thought in 1998-1999, The LEGO Company would release new spaniard sets, including a big spaniard base, and better ships. I was wrong, and Pirate theme were discontinued in 1998.

Personally I don't like this set because jail lacks a wall, so prisoner could escape easily. In my opinion, that detail makes that set really poor. Ah, the coffer has only diamonds, not gold...too bad. For me, that set has only 3 good points: minifigs, pearl dark grey cannon and jolly roger with crossed blades instead crossed bones. In any case, thanks for the review anyway, new reviews are always wellcome

Which LEGO Pirate captain is your favorite?
Captain Roger replied to Captain Roger's topic in LEGO Pirates
Hi mates: I have edited the poll adding 2015 Captain Roger/Redbeard. If you voted before the last captain was added, remember that you can to delete your old vote and vote again. Me, I keep my vote to Captain Brickbeard. About the new captain, I don't like his teeth. I admit that teeth would be apropiate for a ragged pirate like Ironhook, but I don't like that teeth in a smart pirate -
Thanks for the review. Great work. Personally I don't like this ship and I won't buy it, but is cool to can read the review and have a chance to see all good and bad points

I don't understand why BB is wining over BBB. I have voted the 2009 ship. Reasons: BB cannons haven't moving system!!! BBB cannons have wheels at least! ->1 point to BBB BBB have 2 doors in the sterncastle. BB have only one door and a hollow ->1 point to BBB BBB have better sterncastle with that crossed blades as an ornament ->1 point to BBB BB has crow's nest and BBB not -> 1 point to BB BBB 3 BB 1

[MOC] Peter Pan and Captain Hook's Jolly Roger
Captain Roger replied to draganb's topic in Pirate MOCs
Great MOC mate, but I'd like to see photos of the deck. Don't take that photos if it's a nuisance but, if it isn't, it would be great. IN any case, your MOC is really faithful to the original, and I love it -
Minifigs inspired in a non-lego person of character
Captain Roger replied to Captain Roger's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sorry, I thought you were referring to the rockstar with pink crest, and you talked about the other rockstar. Okay: I keep my opinion about that point. They don't only have that two differences. The "I dream of genie" girl has a pink veil, and the lego genie has no veil. But I admit The Lego Company could be inspired by that TV series to create the female genie, and created her with different look. Both have pink hair, but they are totally different in the other aspects. I'm not sure the minifig was inspired in that cartoon. But It may be. AMAZING, PIGBRICK!!!! Are you a Lego worker? Why The Lego Company did caricaricature minifigs of your friends????? -
Minifigs inspired in a non-lego person of character
Captain Roger replied to Captain Roger's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for your posts! Legoman, I'm going to put some photos of your aportations: I haven't included the female genie and "I dream of Genie" because I'm not sure the minifig was inspired in that TV series, because I find both female genies different. I haven't included the Ramone and the Rockstar because I don't know what ramone looks like the minifig. Despite of this, your aportation was great. -
CLM, Thanks a lot for that scans!!! Well, about the enlighten sets, I have already knew them and gave my opinion in other threads. About the Jie Star set, you are right, is really nasty, specially for the sails and minifigs. We can see in the first page an awful art of Jack Sparrow, Barbossa and Will Turner minifigs...even they don't appear in the set. Both the real minifigs of the set and the POTC minifigs of the art are really crappy. The POTC drawing is really scary because Sparrow, Barbossa and Will turner seems to be zombies, possessed, or something like that. About the Kazi ship, I hate that awful minifigs. About the ship, there are a bad point because you can't put minifigs in the masts, but is the only bad point. I like this ship more than Redbeard Runner, Brickbeard's Bounty and Brick Bounty. But the fact that you can't put minifigs in the masts is a total shame. In any case I won't buy any of this products. I have read about enlighten plastic has a crappy quality, and I suspect this happens in all lego-clone brands.

Minifigs inspired in a non-lego person of character
Captain Roger replied to Captain Roger's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I guess you are talking about the actor of Minifigure series 8. Then, he is not inspired in Shakespeare, is inspired in Hamlet: About the Shakespeare minifig of the Lego Movie, yes, he is Shakespeare. By the way, the Scotish warrior: is clearly inspired in William Wallace, in the same way he was represented in the Mel Gibson's movie Braveheart: In the minifig's description, we can read the following quote: “They may take our bricks, but they’ll never take our imagination!” Obviously, is a parody of "They may take our lifes, but they’ll never take our freedom!” The actress of minifigure series 9: is clearly inspired in Marilyn Monroe. And the female warrior of minifigure series 10: may be inspired in Xena, from the TV series Xena, Warrior Princess, starring by Lucy Lawless: In the description of the minifig, we can read: the Warrior Woman was originally raised as a pampered princess in a distant kingdom So I guess she was in fact inspired by Xena, even each character use different weapons (Xena uses a sword and a chakram, and the Lego warrior uses a lance and a shield) By the way, there are some minifigs that are named as a non-lego person/character: Abrahan Lincoln Cleopatra Medusa (the mythological female monster with snake's hair that turns people that look at her into statues) Shakespeare from the movie And it may exist more, but I don't know. In any case, I didn't consider that minifigs because I think they are lego representations of non-lego persons/characters. The minifigs we are showing here aren't representations of persons/characters, they are minifigs that were inspired in a non-lego person/character instead. For example, the Abraham Lincoln minifig is in fact Abraham Lincoln, while the roman emperor minifig is inspired in Julius Caesar, but we can assure is Julius Caesar if he isn't named Julius Caesar. And, of course, the minifigs inspired in movies and TV series are not Tarzan, Conan, Xena, etc because that characters are copyrighted and LEGO hasn't got that licenses. -
Minifigs inspired in a non-lego person of character
Captain Roger replied to Captain Roger's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Ah, you are right! I didn't think about it when I created this thread. The forest man is a Robin Hood Expy! Not only the forest man from minifigure series 1, the old forestmen of old castle sets too: In any case, thanks a lot for your reply!! It was quite interesting -
Hi: Well, this thread is not about minifigs of licenses like Star Wars or Harry Potter. This thread is about original LEGO minifigs that are inspired in a fictional character or a real person. For example, the female lifeguard from Minifigure series 2 is clearly inspired in CJ, from the TV series Baywatch (Character interpreted by Pamela Anderson): The male lifeguard from Minifigure series 12 may be based in Mitch Buchannon, from the same TV series (interpreted by David Hasselhoff): And the spartan warrior from Minifigure series 2 is clearly based in King Leonidas from the Movie 300, interpreted by Gerard Butler: Well, could you show more original LEGO minifigs inspired in non-lego persons/characters? Thanks

Thanks Jamesster for the info. Obviously, the new captain is, in fact, old Captain Roger/Redbeard, in a new design, and that guy is Rummy: http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/mugshot/mugshot_pirate_rummy.png?l.r=1723381808 http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/beauty%20shots/pirate_rummy_beauty.jpg?l.r=930048681 Both 1989 and 2015 versions have brown tricorne, patch in an eye, grey trousers and the same jacket (even it is blue in the old Rummy and green in the new) So I guess that guy is Will: http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/beauty%20shots/pirate_boy_beauty.jpg?l.r=-1832401021 and that guy is Flashfork: http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/beauty%20shots/pirate_01_beauty.jpg?l.r=-408089229

Buy 70409 multiple times is a good idea, because 2009/2015 cannons looks better than 1989-1997 cannons. I replaced SES, BSB, Imperial Trading Post and Rock Island refuge cannons with 2009 cannons some years ago, but my Skull Island and my Eldorado fortress have old cannons yet. Now I have a chance to replace them. You are right about someone can buy 70409 4 times and put 4 cannons with wheels in Brick Bounty's deck, but i won't. I already have Brickbeard's bounty, and Brick's bounty is only a worse version of that 2009 set. Well, I don't usually build MOCS, but I'd prefer make Brickbeard's bounty better than buy Brick's Bounty to make it better
-
Thanks a lot Jodawill for the instructions!!! Brick bounty is a really bad set. Deck is empty with only 2 cannons that haven't moving mechanism. Brickbeard's bounty cannons had wheels at least. Sterncastle has only one door while Brickbeard's bounty had 2 doors instead. That ship is much worse than Brickbeard's Bounty, and Brickbeard's bounty was much worse than old BSB and SES. About Soldiers fort is a bad set too. Jail lacks of a wall so the prisoner could escape easily. the soldiers fort of 2009 was much better...jail was complete at least! And of course, both 2009 and 2015 forts are much worse than old Eldorado Fortress or Imperial Trading Post. I miss the really good pirate sets. In any case, I'll buy the other new sets, the other sets look nice at least.
