The black roof parts should be cheaper now, as two of them appear in 60009 Helicopter Arrest. Good point about the 9V track, too.

Very nice. Hope you post some photos of it at the show, too - looks like a great layout!

Fully automated Lego train coal terminal

Brilliant - love the excavator particularly, as well as the custom hoppers for BNSF. -
Nice little model! Looks like it runs well
-
Looking good! I take it you can run longer locos on that given it's a more elongated curve?
-
Nice, the urinals look spot on (if a bit too clean ;) )
-
Perhaps you could try mixing reddish brown with darker brown to give some texture to the sides?
-
Nice, you've captured the curves of the original brilliantly!

Some brilliant MOCs there. I actually think the imperfections and older bricks add to the models - Lego layouts can look "too plastic" and shiny. (Nice to spot a post of yours after we talked about Brick Alley LUG!)
-
Some fantastic details there - love the glove compartment!
-
Nice! Like what you've done with merging duplicates in to a larger version of each modular. Parisian Restaurant looks particularly good! @notaromantic - didn't read @lightningtiger's comments as sarcasm at all?
-
Nicely done - looks just like David Suchet as Poirot!

Fantastic models: 10 wide looks great! -
Thanks for posting video, always good to see large scale events like that!

Sorry guys, looks like my phone posted a lot when it crashed earlier. Edited to fix that. @andythenorth - love that you let the kids pick parts from those sets for their own models!
-
How could you, that poor Maersk? Agree about the crossing - not worth the high price these days as you can get the core parts much more cheaply separately. As for the trains, the Maersk is a brilliant train to run (edit: and build!) but is very pricey these days. If you're just after something to run around tracks, 60052 is pretty good and has everything you need to get started too.

Nicely executed update of a classic: really sleek lines.

I've just used the set-provided drivers for mine so far (no photos handy, sorry) but I think the series 11 Welder minifigure would be a good fit, face wise!

Brilliant! Looks great fun to play with.

Nice! Can never have too many sidings in my experience ;)

Welcome to a lifetime of Lego train addiction ;) I agree with @dr_spock - the 60052 Cargo Train is probably your best bet for a starter set as it contains everything you'll need to get up and running, and is more interesting to build than the repetitive 60051 passenger train. Dr_spock has it spot on re: set releases too.

[MOC] Saddle Tank steam locomotive + updated truck
BricksMcgee replied to Kumata's topic in LEGO Train Tech
9V requires the metal rails and black and yellow speed transformer, but it means the train itself only requires the motor unit (similar to PF motor unit with wheels) and the model doesn't need to carry IR sensor and battery pack too. There's a useful guide on ebay with more detail here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Lego-R-9-Volt-Trains-A-Brief-and-Basic-Overview-/10000000001680080/g.html. Only real downsides are that it's no longer in production (PF has replaced it) so parts (esp straight track) can be pricey. Hope that makes sense!- 13 replies

Nice job, interesting piece of equipment well captured in Lego! Particularly like the white breathing tank at the back - matches up perfectly to the prototype!

I've not had any problems with the derailing back bogie on the passenger train. Nose mold isn't ideal but looks OK running around a track! Cargo train is pretty good (although is a bit shorter than ideal). Both good sets as a start to get you in to Lego trains (welcome to a lifetime of addiction ;) ) though you may find the build simplistic if you're from a Lego background! Maersk and Horizon Express worth getting a hold of for a more involved build.
