  1. So I guess I can scratch everything I said about how Bionicle is selling nowadays... I went to my local toy store to buy the new sets, but it turned out that the shop didn't have the new Bionicle stuff, and they won't get any, and those sets won't even be released in my country. Sooo I guess that says a lot about the sales and now I'm pretty sure that we will be saying goodbye to Bionicle in 2017... Oh well. About the new sets... ehh, they're ok, better than the Skull Villains, but nothing groundbreaking. I like Ekimu and that's it. I'll wait for the finalized pics before judging the beasts and Umarak, but for now I don't find them that interesting.
  2. Having the new sets in hand (I've bought Tahu, Ikir, Gali and Umarak so far) I must say I'm really impressed with them. They look much better irl than in any of the photos I've seen, I'm particulary surprised by Gali, who turned out to be much better than I expected. I love how it actually takes time and effort to build these sets (especially Umarak), it makes the whole building experience much more fun and the finished figure way more satisfying. Can't wait to see what Lego has planned for the next wave.
  3. Eugh, I'd prefer something completely new.
  4. That's just a matter of personal opinions, I for one find 2016 Tahu's design way better than his 2015 counterpart, Kopaka's pretty good too. Most Lego themes are planned for 3 years, and unless Bionicle will be some kind of a huge flop it will go until 2017, and even longer if it will sell well enough. It's true that Bionicle isn't selling as good as it did in G1 years, but it still sells pretty well where I live, and from what I can tell, it sells much better overall than Hero Factory did, and that line lasted more than 3 years.
  5. The product page on bionicle.com got updated!
  6. Umarak is wearing 2015 torso armor .-.
  7. There's a new issue of Lego Club Magazine and on 25 page, there's a sneak-peak of Journey to One! And it looks amazing! Edit: Also, here's what you get after typing the right code on the Lego Club page:
  8. Fire village was attacked by a different breed of Skull Spiders, maybe that's why...
  9. I said that those comics are faithful enough to the sets and they sure are, and I think most children would actually prefer something that seems more "alive" than a copied and pasted model of a toy. I remember that back in 2008 and 2009, when I still was a kid, it always bugged me that the characters had the obnoxious red and blue pins visible on their bodies, Glatorians hands were always clenched fists and the characters held their Thoranx launchers in 99%, if not all, panels just because that's how it is in the set. The characters in the new graphic novel have actual hands, actual face expressions and feel more lifelike. And lol no most of the comics in G1 were extremely ugly, especially during the Ignition saga. This graphic novel is way better than anything we've gotten so far in my opinion
  10. Disagree. Besides, those comics are faithful enough. If characters were exact copies of the sets, then that would be a bad move - when I read a comic, I want to see actual characters, not toys. And well, the masks on villagers obviously come from Ekimu. They are similar enough to the Protectors' masks, and it was never really stated the all masks have to be identical - that was a thing only in the animations, and the creators surely didn't have time and budget to come up with a slightly different design for each mask worn by every single villager.
  11. It looks amazing! There some continuity and coloring errors in the last pages (Narmoto having Vizuna's colors and Vizuna saying the line that was spoken by Narmoto in the book), but it doesn't bother since MAN THIS IS SO GREAT. Loving the art style, loving the writing, loving that we can finally have a better look at the villagers', well, villages (and it turns out that not all islanders where the same masks!) and well Skull Spiders actually do something at last. Can't wait t osee more, I hope it'll get released in my country as well, I'd love to have a physical copy of it in my collection. EDIT: The Mask of Time used by the Protectors looks oddly familiar...
  12. Nothing about Akida is cuboid.
  13. I'd say Tahu, Kopaka and Onua (since they're 20$ sets, like Umarak).
  14. This channel has reviews of Finn, Phasma and Kylo Ren. They're in Russian, but you can take a look at the construction of those figures.
  15. Not liking these two - they use some great parts for sure, but the overall look of these figures is just ugly in my opinion, failing to create believable organic characters.
  16. I love this set. Sure, he might use some more red, and I'm definitely swapping some gold pieces for red ones when I get him, but overall I don't find anything that wrong with his colorscheme. Same with clashing textures - I personally can't see what the heck is clashing here. Sure, he uses both smooth and detailed pieces, but to a good effect in my opinion - and really evokes that G1 look, which for some people might be the worst thing ever, but I've always prefered the ridiculous amount of pistons over the smooth and clean shells. And that combination with Ikir - marvelous. The weapons could've been a bit better, but they don't bug me that much. All in all, I think Tahu's a great set, definitely day one purchase, along with Umarak.
  17. Splendid work, fantastic! Is there any backstory to this character?
  18. Yeah, Gali is female. 2016 version doesn't pull off that feminine looks as good as the 2015 one, but at least Lego gave her more narrow shoulders :P
  19. Revenge of the Skull Spider preview is available!
  20. I just noticed that in the photo of Gali and Akida together in that BZP review, Gali has a black axle in her hand. I know that Lego still produces them, but I didn't expect to see those parts in Bionicle after all these years of red axles. Nice.
  21. Not digging the friction extenders used in the legs (I get what they're for, but they look just eugh), but the rest of the model is rather nice. Maybe the neck is set a little too far back but I dunno.
  22. I sort of agree, and sort of disagree. See, using custom technic builds in places where you can use one prefabricated piece isn't neccesarily a bad thing. And the most important: custom =/= complex, at least, well, not always. I'm a MOCist that focuses mainly on simple designs, but still custom designs. I prefer making custom torsos instead of using, let's say, Inika torsos, even if the latter would be actually more "simple", but at the same time I still try to use as small amount of pieces as possible, and I've seen plenty of MOCists that use the same technique. So yeah, builds that are "100% custom" don't have to be complex, and the other way around - some prefabricated pieces can be covered with so many small pieces and details that it makes them look even more complex than something using few technic parts slapped together. Besides, as much as I prefer simple designs and use mostly use pre-fabricated pieces for limbs, having 20 or more MOCs with the same pieces used in the same places can get a bit boring, so then I try to use custom builds instead, not "to make it more complex hurr durr" but to try and add something new. But then, I can understand what you're coming at. I've seen hella lot of MOCs that really use way too many pieces to create something that doesn't really require that. But I don't really think that's the case with the MOC that Frozen has shown - sure, it's not the greatest one (but still not as bad as many people say it is), but definitely isn't "unnecessarily complicated".
  23. That's actually not what I wanted to say - I know that CCBS is more versatile-looking because of its smoothnes and "neutral" texture, there's no denying it. What I meant is that many Bionicle pieces, despite lots of people considering them pieces with only one usage/purpose because of their texture, still found a lot of places in other themes to fit in.
  24. But then, you cannot attach two balljoints next to each other or next to basically any other piece, because, as I said, balls are more than 1 module big, there is no way for you to attach two CCBS shells on one standard-sized bone from both sides, and while yes, ball connections allow for more angles, pieces connected with balls will constantly move and will have to be re-adjusted each time. As I said, I'm not saying that ball-based system is totally bad, or even that it's bad, it has its pros and cons, as any other system, but I find there is a lot more cons than in other systems Lego uses. CCBS is great in many aspects and works very well when used together with other system, despite its limitations - because you can use parts from other system in places where CCBS can't be used, and vice versa. For example, CCBS is great for making limbs for small-sized characters, because it has a great variety of small parts with ball connections, perfect for creating legs or arms in that scale. But then, if you're making a custom torso based mostly around technic, and want to cover if with shells, well, then you need to fiddle around with it for a bit - and the end result might still not be as satisfying (this year's Darth Vader is a good example of that imo - while I like his build, it still has flaws). I strongly disagree. I don't really see any "inconsistent" look in the new sets - just because there's a detailed piece next to a smooth shell doesn't mean it looks incosistent. I feel the parts with piston aesthetic are distributed pretty well on the new Toa. Now, if there was a figure that had, say, the whole upper body filled with pistons and mechanical designs, and then legs covered just with smooth shells, then yes, it would look weird and inconsistent, but that's not the case with the 2016 wave in my opinion.
  25. Well um yeah no. Bionicle parts had been present in themes like Mars Mission, Exo-Force, World Racers, Vikings, Star Wars, Technic, Ninjago, Alpha Team, Power Miners and probably many others that I don't remember offhand. And, sorry, but balljoints (and any other pieces that rely on ball-socket connection) are harder to work with than parts relying on pins and axles or regular bricks. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.
