Best Adventurers subtheme
Still Raindrop replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Although I was 9 when the Egypt sets came out, so the nostalgia factor is strong, I have to go with Orient Expedition. The sets were incredible, the story was great, and they used people other than the adventurers and their adversaries for the first time (unless you count Gabarro--but his role was never clear); you got a sense that they were traveling to actual places and interacting with real people. The sets were certainly iconic, and for good reason. I only had sets from the Everest subtheme (though I've been searching for a Dragon Fortress), but I really enjoyed them. In fact, I made a retooled version of the temple a few months back and decided not to change it too much--I wanted it to look more authentically Tibetan, but I also wanted to keep the general look because of how impressive the original set was. I suppose the theme itself was something of an adventure; I don't think something like that had been done before. As far as where I'd want them to go next...hmmm. I agree steampunk would be a huge mistake. There are lots of pulpy adventures they could have. The South Pacific has been mentioned before--maybe they could search for Redbeard's treasure, which he left on Enchanted Island. Or they could go to the Pacific Northwest in America to search for Bigfoot before a hunter gets him. OK, so these are all MOC ideas I'm planning on making, but it could still work! The point is, there are still so many adventures to be had.... -

Interesting that there appear to be other, larger landmasses. Also, that is one tiny planet! I'm going to try to watch the preview now. -
This is the first time that printing really killed a set for me--or, rather, pushed it over the edge. I just can't get behind that digital camo. I don't exactly know why, but it's just a little too far for me. Like if, in G1, the vehicles had not just a HUD (which was fine), but also a mobile Wi-Fi connection that the Toa could use to access troubleshooting.axalara.com.

Bionicle 2016 Story Discussion & Rumors
Still Raindrop replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Agreed that it should be kept to the story team. Yes, Okoto could use some world-building, and I agree that some of that world-building could come from fans (other parts will, I'm sure, come from the tv show). But I think that leaving it more open for anyone's imagination is probably better than making one fan's imagination the final word on certain things. Of course, I could be biased. I was 12 when G1 came out, and I had lots of fun creating my own storylines, creatures, adventures, etc., before eventually losing interest in 2004. I came back to the fandom in 2009, for the Bara Magna arc, so most of my G1 experiences came from times where not everything was fleshed out and canonized. -
LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Bummer that there's no news of the podracer...I sure hope it's actually going to happen, as I missed the last podracing sets. -
Lego Elves 2016
Still Raindrop replied to Amazing Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
To be fair, Lego has been at least somewhat good about this--Ninjago and the Lego Movie (off the top of my head) have had villains who have been redeemed/reconciled. It's going to be interesting to see if Elves is as varied. -
I've seen a few of these around and, though I like their looks (particularly Kopaka and Melum), I haven't convinced myself to pick them up. They're great, but none of them is quite good enough in my eyes to pass my tea test (the price of a Toa or a creature can buy a decent amount of tea, so before buying, I always ask myself whether it's worth what I could have in tea).

The title says "Voyager," but I don't see Tuvok.... Kidding! This looks great, and very much like the real thing.

Ahhhh, I see.

Wait...the source for Flama being a male is an app that also calls Moltor "Mouldron"?
-
Hahaha! I see what you did there.

Aren't Star Wars sets also packed with action features?

I am incredibly impressed with how well you've captured the municipal building look--and at a winter village/City scale, too! Here in Colorado, at least, I feel like I've been to countless buildings that look just like that, both inside and out: schools, DMVs, police offices, etc. This is just spot on. Once again, I'm impressed!

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?
Still Raindrop replied to KimT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Not something I purchased myself, but I got an MISB 4483: AT-AT from 2003 as a gift today. -
Lego Ninjago 2016

Thanks for the link! I do wish we had gotten to see Nadakhan and Flintlocke without their face-concealing pieces, though. And I think that if they double-check, they'd see that the monkey mold is, in fact, different. -

I just meant that a bolt on her chest is probably a bolt in her armor, not making the "Frankenstein" interpretation likely. -

I'm pretty sure that's armor, and she's not bare-chested. -

It would be very odd to have a mech suit without someone to go in it (or even the ability for anyone/anything to fit inside). She's definitely armored, but I doubt it's with a mech suit. The other pirates' armor has bolts, too, as far as I can tell, but I don't think they're all mech suits. Plus, her face looks pretty organic, and it's pretty big. -
Thanks for all these reviews! I'm glad to see that King Halbert finally gives me a faceprint I had wanted: one with a full red (ok, orange, but you know what I mean) beard, newer style eyes, and no scars, eyepatches, etc. I might finally have a fitting sigfig face! And that dark orange beard piece is great, too--it'll be useful for when my beard grows longer.

The oldest/rarest pieces I have are some old Samsonite Lego pieces from the late 1960s and early 1970s. These sets are well before my time, but my wife's grandmother (well, her stepmother's mother) saved them and, knowing of my love of Lego, shipped them to me from halfway across the continent (you can find some pictures of them in this topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=72698). Sadly, I missed out on even more Samsonite. I live in Colorado, and my wife's family has lived in Denver (where Samsonite was founded) and its metro area for over 60 years. As such, the kids growing up at that time had early access to Lego, and my wife's uncle was said to have had an old Samsonite town plan set that he might give to me if he ever found it. Alas, I think it might have been sold--the patriarch of the family died within the past few years, and my mother-in-law has not found anything Lego-related as they've cleaned out the house.

From what I can tell, the monkey's body is in fact a new mold--though similar to what we've had before. I hope we get it in brown eventually. -

You could attach flags to your back the same way you attach swords to your back--with some kind of backpack, scabbard, or other similar device. It looks like the flags connect to the dark green armor. Not saying she definitely isn't a mech suit, but I would find it much less likely to have a bigfig mech than to have a large being with flags attached to her back (like the dragons). -
Mutant farm animals could be great or terrible; that is, they could be done poorly Orwell. (That was a stretch, I know) While I doubt we'll see Mushlord in the plastic, I really hope we do.
