  1. Zephyr- can you find any more pictures of that locomotive? Or is that the only one? And Tony- yeah Im guna try a 9 wide frame as soon as I have time.
  2. Exactly what do you mean? Like a generic base that can be built on?
  3. This is amazing. I can not fault it in any way. And the contouring on the tender is fantastic.
  4. Very nice. I like your solution for the 3rd axle.
  5. For the locos, I have to go with either Locomotive Annie or Commander Wolf. I just love steam locos, and the twist on them is very interesting. So, I gota go with Commander Wolf -3 points, with Annie right behind- 2 points. And For the 2nd category, I gota choose UrbanErwin and that nice monorail.-3 points. And his suspension tank car 2 points.
  6. Not every week. I dont think any of us have that kind of free time. Haha
  7. Yeah the problem with those panels are the length definitely. I might go with zephyrs idea to just cut out the rods going to the pistons. Then maybe make it 9 wide.
  8. Grammar Nazi warning. "Voting" Haha. and I guess my vote goes to anyone but myself. I dont really remember the entries.
  9. I dont think I could make the loco 9 wide. Im not really good at building at all, let alone offsets. I think one of the major things about the class A is the skirting on the sides so I really wanted to keep it like that. If I can figure out how to fit a 4 wide motor to a 9 wide loco, your idea would work great. But I dont think Im skilled enough to make it work reliably. I will try to rebuild what I have so far in 9 wide and see where it goes from there. I just really liked how the rods looked half hidden by the skirting. But if I can make it work, I guess the rods are an acceptable sacrifice. Though looking at pictures of the class A, it actually looks like it would be an 8 wide if built to accurate measurements but I dont think thats even possible while keeping the skirt. I want to not rely on decals for the stripes on any parts of the loco, just so it will look decent without decals, and because I dont have any way to make decals. Haha Oh, and what part were you referring to with the "1xnx1 panel"?
  10. You should put all the entries here. It would help with voting. Or at least list them all.
  11. Yes please take some pictures of your odd wide frame. Its for the tender if that wasnt clear in my original post. And I thought of doing a snot skirt but I dont have that much orange and have no idea how strong the skirt would be. I wish to keep the rods as half of its rotation you can see them moving. If it was more covered in the prototype I could remove them but Im not sure now. I cant make the locomotive 9 wide as I cant do the front nose section otherwise. Once you start doing odd wide, its hard to link it to something fixed at 4 wide such as the motor bogie I am using. I might just forget the class A and go for an F7 Hiawatha. Would give me an easier time with the contouring. And I could even keep it to 8 wide as there is no need for overhang on the drivers.
  12. Im sorry, but your posts are annoying and misguided. We just responded to prove all your points wrong. The moderators are NOT abusing the community, they are doing their duty to Eurobricks to better run it, and to deal with people like you who think they have the right to spread false rumors. By joining this site, you agreed to accept the moderators judgement and obviously they judged that it would be best to change and lock your topics as your topics usually have no actual use to the community. And honestly, I dont think youre quitting. You "quit" before, you will be back again. See you soon! And sorry to any mods who think Im trying to do a mods jobs, I just really had to say this.
  13. Hey, For all of you steamer builders, I always wonder what is the most acceptable overhang for things like cylinders or grab irons. For an 8 wide loco, I find it hard to keep the overall width to a hair over 10 studs, Usually taking into account Technic pins to connect the driver rods. Now my latest project is a class A Hiawatha and one of the major characteristics of it in my opinion is the overhang on the drivers and shovel nose. Unfortunately, to get the overhang on the drivers, I had to make the entire loco max out at 10 wide all the way down the loco and maybe 12 when it comes to grab irons on the cab. And because I build everything in 8 wide, if I decide to build the coaches to go with it, I will have to make the tender 9 wide to better adjust from 10 to 8 wide. So 2 questions, Is there any way I could cut the loco down from 10 wide without sacrificing the driver overhang? And does anyone have any good techniques for making a 7 or 9 wide frame? Preferably with little to no snot work. http://www.flickr.co...s/89954298@N05/ Here are some pictures. Sorry for the poor quality. Too tired to set up for good photos for just an experimental WIP.
  14. Yeah I saw that in my searches the other day. Seems that is the only documented Lego class A out there. Though with what Ive started already Ive gone a completely different route from you having the nose mostly studs up and only using snot in the necessary areas. And XL drivers, larger pilot, powered drivers, and more prototypical contouring (hopefully). Might just end with me scrapping it, Im not usually happy with my locos. I feel like Im slowly losing my building skills.
  15. Well the thing is the steam fan will never be satisfied by Lego. For too long they ignored the fundamental design of steam locomotive, the drivers. and only 1 decent steamer will not satisfy us. On a slightly related note, My next loco will be a 4-4-2 Hiawatha. Wish me luck!
  16. Something about an American built loco with 4 large drivers such as a 4-4-2 or 4-4-4 just looks funny to me. Speaking if the Hiawatha, could a Milwaukee Road fan explain the era differences between the 4-4-2 and 4-6-4 Hiawathas? Im curious and have no idea what to search for.
  17. As long as you use blind drivers in key places, larger locos can work. But define small? I believe the largest wheel set Lego would build an engine with is 6 drivers.
  18. I hear ya Lazarus. Im only 17 and Ive been into model trains my entire life. I have been working on a 12 square foot N scale layout for the past year..(yes I know, I dont get much time for it) But Im the only person I know around my age group that is into trains in any way. I dont see why more people dont like to do things with their hands anymore. Its such a rewarding feeling when you can build something from scratch. Im sure Ben Fleskes is still working on the new track system. Though the last update was about 4 months ago. And he was working on different radius curves and such. So lets all hope he pulls through and delivers an amazing product which Im sure we all will rush to buy.
  19. Problem with Lego's American western locos are they arent built prototypical. They are built as toys for kids, not as a serious model. Though if you look at Moced Western locos, they usually look amazing. Lego often makes the locos a bit too tall or just have ugly proportions.
  20. Bjtpro. 8 driver locos are possible on Lgauge. Its been moced so many times. A Black 5 I think would be amazing but should Lego do another british type steamer? Maybe in a few years it would fit nicely. Piranha, the Super Chief wasnt as good of a seller as you would think. The major problem with it was you had to buy multiple sets for the complete train. If they made it a whole set it would probably work better but it would be pretty expensive for even just a loco and 3 or so cars. Though it could be like the HE in you buy 2 and can make a more prototypical train.
  21. A Pacific type would be too similar to the EN. Even if its an American 4-6-2. City of Truro would be nice, but it would probably seem a little on the small side compared to the other Creator Expert sets. A black 5 would be IMO be right about perfect in the size aspect, With maybe 2 or 3 small goods wagons? Honestly, Im not much a fan of German steam but hey, thats me! Though it would be nice to see Lego do one, even if I wouldnt be buying it. The K4 again is a pacific, too similar to the EN. I would like to see Lego do a steamer that ISNT a western or 4-6-2 loco. And definitely the next steamer should come as a freight train. So that goes back to maybe a Black 5? Or still a Hudson. If they want to treat us, they might make something with 8 drivers!
  22. The tender is honestly too short for a 10 wheeler. But this is nice anyway.
  23. For your vote on a non streamlined Hudson, I thank you. I personally prefer the non-streamlined version as it has more purpose rather than a strict luxury passenger locomotive. Though Lego could turn it into the 20th Century, Or the Pacemaker freight service, Or even just a mixed goods train. So many possibilities with a simple Hudson!
  24. If you want a door that blends in, Just make a solid door on a half stud inside offset. It would look like a door, while maintaining color consistency. Though you do loose the function.
