The point is accuracy. Real steam trains are powered by the drivers.

Maybe its something with the packets.

Lego Minifigure things they can improve?
Spitfire2865 replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As much as I would love more movement in arms, I doubt Lego could make it look as good with new function. Clone brands who do more movement rarely look good. -

Ads do not bother me. Infact, i hardly notice ads on EB anyway. I just noticed theres an ad at the bottom of the page! -
Ive wondered the same thing about BBB track. I at least wished he kept the prototype pictures up. It would have made it seem more active anyway.

Well whats great about the new servo motors is that you nolonger need a clutch for things like points or even a linear actuator. Though for trains you normally want a continuous motor, there are applications for the servo in the landscape and buildings. Maybe making an automattic tipper to load cars?

Nice. The front confuses me. What parts make up those 4 white dots and what i assume to be a faux coupling?
-
Very nice. Are you going to go along and create a body for it? The wheelbase looks nice for a small electric loco.

Its amazing how you fitted metal tires to the wheels. A great solution for small shunters or tank engines. Could you maybe blacken the tires to stand out less? Did you just use unmodded BBB flangeless wheels? Or is there any work done to them? The overall compactness is beautifully done.

Where to buy train wheel with axle hole?
Spitfire2865 replied to mikezang's topic in LEGO Train Tech
yes it can -
I just checked brickipedia and nothing by that name is announced yet. Where did you hear about this? It sounds interesting yet too similar to the EN.

LDD MOC/MOD: Vintage Western-style steam train
Spitfire2865 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Something about American built locomotives around the 1800s, they were often very colorful, especially the American types. Reds and blues and gold highlights, maybe even some greens. Tough I'm not sure about a dark green...and ten wheelers were often black, with only the smoke box sometimes being a different color ( grey). I think for a ten wheeler, black is the way to go. But, the dark green coaches, now those can be considered accurate, depending on the railroad of course. And a longer locomotive would also look better IMO. The wheels bunched up just doesn't look right, perhaps moving the rear-most driving axle 2 studs back, and lengthening the boiler along with it. But, just my opinion based on photos of the period. Also, if I'm correct, these mocs are intended to be civil war era...I'm not sure ten wheelers were in wide use at that point, most likely locos would be American types. Though..I'm no expert on the civil war...but I am a fanatic about steam locomotives... -
I think the height clearance could be more, but other than that, great.

Hey Joe's Layout - Comments and Suggestions?
Spitfire2865 replied to Hey Joe's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If you really want the track to match, you could maybe dye it. But painting the rails a gray could also work to make it more realistic. -
There's a difference between simply admiring a train and actually going out and building or modeling trains. Kids can be fascinated by almost anything that seems to be moving by itself. But it takes effort and skill to actually contribute to the railroading community. Most kids who stare with amazement at model trains are more than likely to not desire to be a part of the community later.

Flex track isnt very good as track when it is loose. It is one of the things most of us hate about the PF train line. I would try using flex track as filler and not as long sections of active track. At most, using only 2 or 3 in a row.

Electricsteam? Have you seen this? -
Sadly this is true. So many people today just dont have interest in, or even respect for railroads.
