So PF, is it of any use for realistic operation?
Spitfire2865 replied to Locomotive Annie's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Locomotive Annie, I feel I didnt express myself clearly. My "Easily snap in" idea was obviously not for everything. I mean that its a lot easier to put a self contained motor into something rather than an entire mechanism or battery and stuff that PF requires. Im not saying its always easy. Hell, Sometimes its impossible. Oh and also, I used to use 3 rail O gauge. Ahh memories. -
But you need one PF receiver for EACH train. Not sure if you understood that from what Hrw-Amen said. I sure didnt.

The rechargeable battery box is the same size as the AAA box. The weight, Im not entirely sure. But If you have the money, Id recommend the rechargeable box. Its a lot easier to use as all you need to recharge is access to the plug. With the AAA box, you would have to completely remove it from the loco. And the rechargeable box will save on battery costs in the long run.
-
The battery box that comes with the set is coloured for that set. The rechargeable box is a basic grey. And the BNSF loco is made for 9V. It would be hard to fit it with PF due to the battery box. Sorry If what I say doenst make sense. Just trying to help.

PF is my choice as it is a bit of a challenge making everything work and fit. Its easy to just snap a 9V motor to something, but it takes real work to fit multiple parts in and have them all work together. Although the other systems arent bad as well. I just dont want to go to the hassle of finding parts from older systems. -
Has anyone noticed Lego has stopped selling the newer buffers on the PAB site? A bit odd IMO as all the rest of the train parts are still there.
-
Ahh the colours! It burns. XD At least we wont see em. Very nice hills for lego though.
-
When I saw this I was silent. This is such a cute little engine! I would love to try my hand at building a loco similar to this. With credit of course.

Although the wall has very little modification, it looks a lot better now with the reinforcements. But whats with that tower ruins? Haha interesting.
-
An interesting sight indeed!
-
Not a big fan of that stone wall. Just looks a bit weak. Could do with a bit more thickness IMO. Sorta like what you did with the top wall.
-
They are perfectly fine pictures. And Im not entirely sure where this section will be placed. I am very curious.
-
I wish Lego didnt change the buffer design. As an American Railroad modeler, I have no use for buffers. I as well would love to see someones modification.
-
I still say for a first attempt at steam, its really good.
-
I wouldnt expect you to lug this to the USA. But yes Id love some good pictures of the entire thing.
-
Now that is looking nice. Id love to be able to see this in person.

I dont like how sudden of a drop the elevated track wall has. A hill would look better. But I guess you aeady were thinking of that.

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff

Thats sure odd. But still it doesnt have anything to do with XL wheels. But hey, Good to know! I checked the XL wheels and they are one stud apart. So yeah. The diameter is just about 3 cm. Im not sure about circumference right now. Im not in the mood to do actual math. And the thickness is insignificant. The flanges on BBB wheels are big enough to ignore any tire that is thin enough. Its about 1 mm thick if youre wondering.- 578 replies

Pardon me asking, but what does the Med. Wheels have to do with XL wheels? Best not start confusing those who are questioning BBB. And in pretty sure all BBB wheels have the same hole offset. May be wrong as I have not purchased any med. Wheels but going by pictures Im pretty sure.- 578 replies

With an O scale tire there is no need for any groves. The tire fits well without anything. And it doesnt really affect the height all that much if you let the pilot and/or trailing truck have some play. Should work fine. I can get you the size of the tire if you are willing to wait a few hours. I found it to fit the XL wheels great.- 578 replies

This is beautiful. Along with its beauty it is fully compatible with the modulars with the track parallel to the street. The details are fantastic and it has a nice historic feel. And your high speed train is amazing. And thats something, coming from me. (Im a steam person btw)

Spitfire2865 replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Well the XL wheels Ive found that O scale traction tires fit them well. Better than any o ring for sure. And you could paint the tire red as well. I believe o scale tires slightly smaller than BBB will work fine.- 578 replies
