  1. It's funny, I was able to build the Holiday Train loco and tender just from parts I already had. I didn't bother with the trucks, because they include rare parts (such as the red base) which are expensive.
  2. Well I didn't expect this to be featured on the front page! Thanks everyone! Believe it or not, I actually had to buy more curved track than I had! I must have been the only AFOL who didn't have enough... Yes it will be.
  3. I reckon that in the station alone (so not counting the minifigs, trains, track or greenery), there's about 50,000 pieces. That might be less than people were thinking.
  4. ^^ There's a topic I started a while back for the Flying Scotsman: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102742#entry2061857 Regarding Batman, there are a few things like that on there, because kids love to be able to spot figures like that. Strangely, most of them seem to get more excited about spotting a minifig like that than they do about the station. I also have the Joker in there, as well as Abraham Lincoln, R2D2 and C3PO. Oh, and a skeleton sat on a bench! They all just add little details to it, which are nice for people to spot.
  5. Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all your kind words I've been planning this for well over a year, and have been building it (on and off) for most of this year. Last weekend was the first time that I actually fully built the whole thing (it's too large to really build in my house). They're the 1x2x2 clear panels. A lot of people asked this over the weekend. I generally responded by asking them to guess. Most said a number between 2000 and 5000. After they guessed, I told them. 11,500 panels. (The actual total is 11,520)
  6. As most of you won't have had chance to visit the Great Western Brick Show at Swindon (UK) last weekend, I thought I'd show you a few photos of the station MoC which I displayed there. More photos (as well as photos of other models at the show) are on my flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/97154687@N02/ Oh and there's photos on there of it being assembled too.
  7. Am I the only one who came in here expecting a moc of the full-size model? I mean, it's good and all that, but a bit of a let down when you were expecting to see the larger version in red white and blue!
  8. Very nice, but unfortunately (or fortunately?) I have far far too much track to make this any kind of realistic option.
  9. There is, of course, something new in the set that makes the whole thing worthwhile. Something that wasn't in the original, and that no AFOL can ever have enough of. ... A Brick Separator.
  10. Someone on Brickset is saying it is effectively a re-release of 10199 Winter Toy Shop. :( Not sure how reliable they are though...
  11. Ah, well if you've raised your request with a Lego designer or other person of influence within Lego, then that's great and I commend you for that. ... You have asked someone at Lego about it, haven't you?

  13. ^ I tried changing it to 'Winter Sex Shop', but it changed it back to 'Winter Toy Shop'. Now it has me wondering what kind of toys... Anyway, your post was interesting because I've just been playing around with set numbers. So far I've found the following: 10251 Expert 1 Confidential 21304 Doctor Who 21305 LEGO Ideas 1 2016 21123 LEGO Minecraft 1 Confidential 21124 LEGO Minecraft 2 Confidential 21125 LEGO Minecraft 3 Confidential 21126 LEGO Minecraft 4 Confidential Clearly, all but the second one are placeholder names. Because of this, I now don't think the Winter Village Toy Shop is a placeholder name. Even taking into account what has been said above, I think it's far more likely that 'Toy Shop' is the actual name, rather than Lego 'forgetting' to create a placeholder name for it.
  14. Why on earth has this thread been moved, and the title changed, given that the thread is over 4 years old?! Went to look for it this morning and couldn't find it - I had to go into my previous posts to find it. Stupid.
  15. I know this contradicts what Grogall has said on another forum, but I've been told that this year's Winter Village set is indeed a Toy Shop, which will be for sale at £59.99 in the UK. Unfortunately I don't know any more details than that.
  16. I don't see any real need to change the current couplings. I model in 7-wide, and I use the couplings just fine. Also, as Lego only make trains in 6-wide, the current couplings are fine for their products. I'd be extremely surprised if they're losing any kind of large portion of their sales because of 'wrong' couplings, and certainly not half their market. Too many people in the AFOL community think along the lines of what is good for them and them alone, forgetting that in the grand scheme of things, they're a minute part of Lego's business. Yes it would be nice, but it would also be nice if I won the lottery, and as I don't even play it, that's not going to happen.
  17. I don't know where you are, but I've never seen a School, Library, Bank, Hospital and Police Station together on the same street In a lot of towns here it's more likely to be lots of charity shops, Bookmakers and Coffee shops...
  18. I don't know of a single Train project that has even reached 5000, let alone 10000. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Unfortunately, that may only confirm to LEGO that trains are a niche market.
  19. You can get a polarity switch to change the direction the motor runs in. I don't have one (although I have 2x Horizon Express), but that's what I'd use.
  20. I hate to say it, but the decals are wrong on that custom sticker sheet - the letter shadowing should be to the bottom-right, whereas the shadows on that decal sheet are to the bottom-left. I also think the font might be slightly different - it's most noticable on the numbers, which seem 'sharper' than they ought to be.
  21. The green on the wheels is printed. Unfortunately it also printed onto the flange, so that needs gently sanding off.
  22. Very nice! However, if you place a 1x6 tile on it's side, and use clips to hold it in place, then you'd have an even smaller train! ;)
  23. ^ Thanks! That reminds me, I need to buy some very fine sandpaper to sand off where it printed onto the flange. The printing was a total of about £50 or so.
  24. A corner building seems likely, given that the pattern thus far has been 'corner, straight, straight, corner' etc. Also, bear in mind that for the last few modulars they've very much gone for something that tells a 'story'. The cookie prohibition with the DO, the engagement with the PR, for example. Even the PC had the opening night of a film, and the TH had the wedding, although those last two it was less obvious. So, bearing in mind there's a story to construct, how would you fit that in with a Museum? I can't think of an obvious way. A bank, on the other hand, could be getting robbed... Just something to think about when speculating - what 'story' would the building have?
  25. I got a company to do the printing for me - Minifigsforlife, who are based about two hours from me. It took a total of about 7 and a half hours for them to design the decals and print them onto the train. I provided reference photos/font/logo etc though. Do you have photos of your model? I can only see LDD images on your mocpages.
