4-6-2 LNER Class A3 4472 'Flying Scotsman'
Paperballpark replied to Paperballpark's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks! :) There's no way I could do that, as the PF motor truck would hit the sides of it when going around the corners. There's really no way around that. -

That would have compromised the look of it though - the PF motor truck has too large a wheelbase to use it in the tender with another two axles either side. Anyway, yes it is too late now! ;) -

Thanks! Unfortunately I can't make working cylinders on it, as the PF motor is in the pony truck, and that's too high to also do cylinders - the PF motor truck would hit it when going around the corners. Oh and the details are printed directly onto the bricks - there are no stickers on the model at all! I should say a big thank you to Minifigforlife who did the printing for it. -

Well, rather later than I was hoping for, I've finally got the details printed onto this, and I'm extremely pleased with how it's turned out. For the person who asked whether the parts had to be removed to be printed onto, yes, some of them did. Where it was printing onto a flat surface though, they didn't. You can see full size pics on my flickr account here. -
I think this year's WV set will indeed be a Toy Shop. After all, to quote dr_spock above; "There is a new generation who hasn't had one yet."

To be honest, if you're a kid (or adult) who is interested in trains, steam trains or even freight trains are generally more interesting than passenger trains. Certainly I am anyway. Although I bought two HEs (and it's a good build), quite frankly, it's a bit boring to look at.

Baseplates are still available in the Brand stores, just not in sets other than the Modular buildings. TLG aren't going to retire them - heck, they've just brought out new ones in bright green and Tan (although they've stopped with the Green and Blue). They're made from a different material to normal bricks though, and I believe they're not made by lego themselves, although I could be wrong. Additionally, baseplates are actually not great - the gap between the studs is very very slightly bigger than normal, so if you put a line of plates or tiles on a baseplate, the edges of it will curl up slightly as the plates/tiles 'pull' the studs together.

Inductive Charging for PF Trains - Last chance to support!
Paperballpark replied to Brickthus's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It's a nice idea Mark, but unfortunately they've already stated that Ideas is not for new parts or elements, and that these will not be produced. Also, it only has 26 days left before it's purged from the site, so I'm afraid I don't see any hope for it getting anything like the support it would need. Sorry.- 3 replies

I always build in 7-wide these days. My main tip? Buy lots of black jumper plates!
-
Interesting design...! Can I ask, does it have the technic 1x2 bricks which enable it to connect to other modular buildings?
-
Regarding the train windows, I bought 8 of them when I bought mine, as they were coming from quite a long way away, so I thought I might as well make it worth it. I still have four of them unused...

[MOC] 7-wide 2-6-4 Fairburn tank
Paperballpark replied to Dutchiedoughnut's topic in LEGO Train Tech
^ It's just you. I've actually moc'd a train that's fairly similar to this, using PF with an M motor. Unfortunately, I think there's too many compromises to make it work and make it go around corners. Because of that, I'm not liking it tbh. Your version looks better, but I suspect is slightly bigger than mine. It certainly looks longer. I suspect that your front steps will pop straight off as soon as it tries to go around a bend though... -

I have both of the cargo trains, and I much prefer the new one (60052). I extended mine so that it's longer, as it looked a bit short to me.
-
I'll back up what has been said earlier, that the current blue cargo train is really good. I lengthened mine by 6 studs to match the Maersk, and it looks great. Sure it doesn't have the intricate build of the Maersk, but it's still a great train.

The one bit of extra track I'd like to see is outer radius curves. I'm really not interested in the third-party track.

Why do I get the feeling we're all going around in circles here? 1. Ooh, Horizon Express is on sale/has sold out. It must be EOL. 2. That means there must be a new Creator Expert train coming, right? 3. I wonder what it could be? 4. I wonder when it will come out? 5. It must be soon; a few months time, maybe? Then repeat steps 3 to 5 ad infinitum, occasionally jumping back to step 1. I can see this pattern repeating for the whole of 2015. Somehow, no-one is quite making the leap to 6: 6. I guess there won't be a train coming out in 2015 after all.

Train Station as a Modular Building?

Oh trust me, if I was trying to be abrasive I would have removed the asterisks. -
Train Station as a Modular Building?
Paperballpark replied to legonerd54321's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It would look s**t, that's what it would look like. You simply can't do a train station on a 32x32 baseplate. Not even a crappy out of the way one-platform station, let alone a big town one. So I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but it would look s**t. -
Or maybe nothing at all.

Feb VIP exclusive is apparently the Super Heroes Helicarrier.

Probably a bus then.

I suspect 'metro mdp' hasn't been translated properly. After all, what does svp stand for? Who would guess it is short for 'please' in french if you didn't know it's french?

I agree about the RC trains. I came across one when doing a recent show, as my co-exhibitor had brought one along. That system is utterly utterly rubbish - you're forced to use the standard base, the battery life is terrible, the speed of the train is crap, and the whole thing is just an absolute steaming pile of shite.

No, sorry. It's hard to tell with just one image, but I imagine they'd be hard to do, as your front pony truck would probably bash into them when going around corners. You'd need to find a way of making it so that the front axle cleared it, but it looks a bit too tight to do that.
