I did consider using the 1x2 plate with slope, as it's more steeply raked, but I decided not to, as it would have left a row of studs (I wanted as much of it studless as possible) and would also have compromised the lead-in to it. Whilst your design solves that issue, it also compromises the curves on the AC unit, which I consider to have done pretty much spot-on (although it's difficult to see in the photos), and also the black curved section as well. Basically, it's a question of what do you prioritise and what do you compromise on, as you can't do everything spot-on. I went one way with it, which I'm happy with. :)

Trust me, if I could have made the front more curved, I would have done! I think the fact that you said 'somehow' indicates that you have no idea how your suggestion could be implemented. Well, neither do I! I'm all for constructive criticism, but please can it actually be possible to do?

Thanks! The pictures don't really show it, but there's a nicely curved bit on the roof in the middle. I've got a couple of photos of the top, and the rest of the roof is actually pretty flat. There's a couple of coaches which have the pantograph and associated stuff on top, but I haven't done those coaches yet. I'll be adding the pantograph etc when I do Believe me Max, it's a lot lot easier to say 'change the front to make it more round somehow' than to actually do so! That is the 8th(!) different version of the cab, and honestly, it's as good as I could get it. If you think you can do better, by all means be my guest, and come back here and post the results. Let's just say I'm pretty sure there's a reason why you don't see many MOCs of the Pendolino... Not sure what you mean about the roof - it's not really round on the real thing, and I think I've done it fairly well. Oh and I didn't mention in the original post, but it tilts around the curves. You can just (only just!) see that in the photos.

I thought I'd share photos of a cab and a coach of my Virgin Pendolino which I've just finished. When the whole thing is done, there'll be five coaches and three cabs (one as a spare). The whole thing will be 3.5m (11.5ft) long, and have a total of just over 6800 pieces. The Pendolino is very difficult to model in Lego, because of how curvy it is - especially the front of it - but I've done the best I can. I did eight(!) versions of the cab before I got to the current one, which I'm happy with. I'm also intending to get the door details printed onto the bricks, as well as the Virgin logo.

Airjitzu flying machines
Paperballpark replied to Paperballpark's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The gear keeps the flyer attached, as the bottom part can't go up past the gear. And you do have to cut the piece, it isn't possible to gear it otherwise. -
LEPIN brings out Monster Fighters HAUNTED HOUSE (16007)
Paperballpark replied to ericb's topic in Community
Very true! I could have bought three aftermarket Emerald Nights with what I've spent on my latest train. Mind you, it will be about 3.5m (about 11.5ft) long and contain 6800 pieces... -
I'm afraid the idea of using an axle to move something else is not at all new. I very much doubt they 'stole' anyone's idea...

Charging while moving, 9v to powerfunctions
Paperballpark replied to spzero's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I've never tried running the Rechargable battery box whilst charging it, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. Likewise, I don't see why that charge couldn't come from 9V track, via the metal wheels/pickups, and then wired to the charging plug that goes into the battery box. I'm not an electrician though, so I take no responsibility for anything which burns down as a result of people trying this -

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Just scrub out the set number, tell them it's #10188, and challenge them to prove you wrong -
LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
Paperballpark replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
As I said elsewhere, I can kinda understand it from Lego's point of view. #10188 has obviously been a consistently good seller since it came out - otherwise they'd have retired it long ago. While that's a good thing for Lego, the length of time it's been available probably started to create some issues for them in the last year or so, for example: - the now very out-of-date minifig designs - the production of elements in colours that might only now have been produced for #10188 - the fact that, because of inflation, the price of #10188 was getting more and more out of line with current sets So from their point of view, as it was still selling well, there was clearly nothing wrong with the basic design, so why change it? It just needed tweaking a bit to remove old elements etc, so that it can be on sale for another 7 or 8 years. ;) (Incidentally, I'd half-expect something similar to happen with #10214 Tower Bridge in a few years, although that's probably not as necessary because of the lack of minifigs.) Plus, the 10213/10231 Space Shuttle already established that they'll create a new set number if re-releasing it, even with only minor updates. As for the number of 'UCS slots' per year, I seriously doubt that they limit themselves to X number of slots per year. It'll just be however many they design sets for. So if this hadn't been re-released, there probably wouldn't have been another UCS set in place of it. -
^ Probably quite a bit more expensive than if you just buy it from Lego.com when it's released...

If you ram some under your door, it may make a good door-stop. I actually think Lego has realised that it doesn't really work well, as they didn't include any in the latest City trains. Hopefully we won't see the stuff anymore.

Should be at STEAM, yes, as long as the parts arrive in time. I'm building two cabs for it, so that I van swap them over when the battery box needs recharging. Each cab will use one rechargable battery box, two train motors, one IR receiver, one polarity switch and a PF cable extension. Two motors should be enough to pull it.

I can't find a '2017 Lego Trains' thread, so I'll just leave this here: 21130 Nether Train [Minecraft] I'm struggling to find an image for a nether train in Minecraft, if I'm honest, but it does seem like they do rails now, so you never know...

[PRESS RELEASE] Announcing 10254 Winter Holiday Train
Paperballpark replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Town
'LEGO makes toy for children' shock! Probably Jason Railton. At Brick 2015 in London he had a train and track displayed, where the train stayed still and the track (all straights) moved under the train... -
I'm currently working on a train which will be about 3.5m (about 11.5ft) long. It should be finished sometime next month, for running at a show at the beginning of October

Yes, it uses a red bogie plate. You can see it on the top of the box in the hi-res photos. Good stuff!

They're pretty damn busy, judging from what they've said in my communications with them. They're very committed to it all, but I think there's been quite a few issues this year that have been out of their control - issues with their supplier, the mold, stuff like that - which has impacted on how quickly they've been able to ship stuff, and indeed how much they've been able to produce and ship. Patience is a virtue. I've no doubt that everyone will get what they ordered eventually (including me!)

[PRESS RELEASE] Announcing 10254 Winter Holiday Train
Paperballpark replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Town
Woah, what have you done to the green in those photos?! It tells you which PF parts you need on the back of the box. I've been told there are instructions for including it. -
At a guess, with a rechargable battery box, I'd say about 5 hours. I thought that too! Oh well.
-
Exactly. It's a Winter Village set that happens to be a train, not a Train set that happens to be Winter Village.
-
I actually like it even more now. I think it looks like a really nice Christmasy train. Plus, I'm pretty certain that's a Red 4x6 Bogie plate on the engine, rather than the yellow we normally get. Nice!

Thank you. My thoughts pretty much exactly.
