  1. Great. I appreciate your verifying your info as well. Looking at the minifigs that were already revealed, they could be doing it on both the Mad Scientist with the tall head and the Purple Witch. Both of them have specific demarcation on the legs.
  2. Can someone confirm that? That coat of arms is new to me. I really want you to be right, Tang.
  3. I think we can certainly use different colors in castles without the fantasy element. Of course, I think 2013 was a fantasy wave since there was an evil wizard and a dragon. A tan / dark tan castle would be great. I think the heraldry should avoid both lions and dragons so they can come across as a new faction instead of a reboot. It has been a long time since we have a stag or a wolf. That would also help feed Games of Thrones MOCs without acquiring such an adult content license.
  4. I got all the sets from both themes. My favorite builds are Bagend from The Hobbit and Helms Deep (w/ 2 Uruk-Hai Army wall additions) and the Orthanc from Lord of the Rings. Those sets will never be scrapped for parts. Besides those four, you may want to look at which characters you are going after. The best set from the final Hobbit wave, for me, was the smallest: Witch-King Battle.
  5. Mott, there are no new sets confirmed outside of the four Dimensions sets with Gandalf, Gollum, Gimli, and Legolas. There are tiny Middle Earth builds with all of them except Gandalf also comes with Batman and Wildstyle. But we also see a lot of Middle Earth promoted in the game. There has to be at least one level on it. So the speculation is why LEGO would promote something that has been over for years until it is going to return on some level or another. I hope for LotR getting at least one Direct to Consumer (D2C) set similar to what The Simpsons is getting. Since the first news of Dimensions, though, we see that Chima is getting several sets and their line is supposed to end this year. So we continue to speculate because that is what we like to do.
  6. This is a wonderful MOC and with such as strong set like feel, I would recommend an IDEAS project. I certainly would Support it.
  7. I think so. I haven't inbox Orthanc yet, but Helms Deep is one of only a few sets that I will never break down. It looks best to me with two Uruk-Hai Army walls attached: one on each side of the drainage piece.
  8. The two main contenders are great; however I voted for Uruk-Hai Army. I recently built my last copy (4th) as I needed some pieces. I loved every minute of the build. It was all great.
  9. For beaches, I would recommend tan and dark tan (for the wet sand). Also trans clear and trans blue is good for water. Below is a quick example I made for the Xmas Raffle last year.
  10. MAB is right that IDEAS used a generic statement that used many times. That statement does not mean LEGO has the license anymore. But that fact that LEGO is using the characters in new sets in September does.
  11. There is no official explanation of the wording. I think MAB is right that does not specifically mean that LEGO has the license, but that a competitor does not. But we know that LEGO does have the license via Dimensions. The real question is whether they are willing to produce sets for a license that does not media support (active TV or movie). Prior to Dimensions, I would have said No. Pirates of the Caribbean was mentioned in the LEGO Shareholders report as exceeding expectations, but the line ended with the movie. Harry Potter ended with those films too. Now, I think there is a slim possibility that Lord of the Rings could continue. I doubt it would be a robust as the first wave. But even if we got one major set a year similar to The Simpsons, I think most here would be pleased. LEGO could have put something else in Dimensions instead of Lord of the Rings. I cannot think of another reason.
  12. I finally supported that Rivendell project. It was always beautiful but the scaled down version looks a lot more practical.
  13. I found this on IDEAS this morning before seeing this thread. I already supported it. It is an impressive build and I am a huge fan of historical LEGO.
  14. Sir Basil Ashton, the inclusion of Lord of the Rings in Dimensions shows that it is a success as is the frequency that TLG CEO mentions LotR. While I likely will sit out the four Dimensions sets that have LotR minifigs (three of which have LotR builds) that comes in September. Is the rumored next Castle wave after that? I think LotR was a success while the Hobbit and Castle 2013 was not. I am a huge Castle fan and look forward to seeing what 2016 has for us. But there is no need to bash LotR and with the Dimensions news, there is not much to support that it was a failure.
  15. That looks like the background art for the polybags. However, it has images that don't match the series including a castle and off brand ghost busters. Very weird.
  16. Our new LUG webpage has gone live: http://oklug.org/
  17. Most impressive. Great work.
  18. My City is a few modulars and an in process MOC of a bike shop / apartments. I have quite a few of the CMF minifigs on the street and occasional super hero battles on the roof tops. Right now it is Nolen universe Batman and Joker on top of the Grand Emporium. The vehicles in front of the modulars change with the season. During the winter holidays, I had the Creator Christmas tree truck going down the street. Other times, it is Super Heros armor car and LEGO Movie trash truck. Currently I just have the TMNT Movie semi. I noticed last night though it looked like the semi was about to wipe out four skate boarders and a pizza delivery scooter. I move the semi further from the curb to prevent that.
  19. It is a very impressive build. Can you add more close up photos to the Flickr stream?
  20. If there was to be a new LotR minifigure from Dimensions, I could see the Witch King. But if he were to have the iconic helmet, I suspect he would be in a $30 level pack with a fell beast minibuild and a Grond battling ram. The only Dimensions set with a new mold was the hover board in the Back to the Future level pack. So it would be a $30 piece of plastic, but I would still buy it. I don't see Minas Tirith passing IDEAS review, but with the continued interest, it could just be a regular Direct 2 Consumer set. There has to be more demand for it than a Simpson's Kwik E Mart. The level of participation in Dimensions shows the Lord of the Rings has not disappeared from TLG's radar.
  21. I am at work but this is the article that lead me to the LEGO Store trip. The Viking torso is on the top left. There were no printed armor out in the Build a Minifig bar but when I asked an employee brought four out from the back. They have had the Viking shields (from the same CMF) for a while now, but I passed up on them this time in favor of that armor.
  22. I don't know if they will do a major wave for The Wizard of Oz. However, the trailer shows a level with various other Oz characters in addition to the Wicked Witch. I think they really need to make the main characters to support that this world is really a LEGO world. I just have a sneaky suspicion that the Oz set won't have the Wicked Witch. This way even if you don't play Dimensions, you will have to buy the fun pack with the set to get all the characters.
  23. It likely means that a new licensing agreement was signed. It might be a more generic one to include a variety of properties.
  24. BrickJagger, why would LEGO want to harm the release of this new venture just to clear unused Gandalf? Lord of the Rings has as much representation in this as The LEGO Movie and more than Ninjago and DC (by just one Fun Pack). There also appears to be a Middle Earth level. I agree with you that LEGO is not likely introduce new Middle Earth minifigures for this game. But with Lord of the Rings playing such a prominent role in the game, perhaps, there is a change for a more limited LotR sets in the future. I realize that my links were screwy. I edited them multiple times and I don't know how the other links did not work when I finally got the Gollum link right. But surely that is not too much of a challenge for this board.
  25. I suspect if we get another licensed minifig series it would be Dr Who. It is a new license which might be been written to include the possibility.
