Today I was able to post my latest build (due to personal matters). The Generic Mower 2000! I wanted, again, to make something non-branded, so a riding mower it was. Not much about the build really; It has a two cylinder water cooled diesel. Four wheels. Pivoting front axle. The mower deck can be turned on and off. The seat flips up. The trailer has a removable back. The trailer can dump too. I for some reason was having trouble with the deck because how I modeled it, I did not have the clearance or parts to make the deck raise and lower. Taking care of the flowers and grass. Just a little flex. 15 horsepower of ultimate power! Ready for work. The remaining pictures are located here! and video is here!

[REVIEW] 42131 - CAT D11T Bulldozer
weavil replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Part of it is more and more buyers are getting sets for display and not just with Technic. Look at Star Wars and Town themes. They're building up a collection or just want them to show off. Either way Lego has tapped into a new consumer base and it's working so they don't have a need to make "B" model. At the same time more kids just want to build it and play, so they aren't that concerned about official B models. -
Technic Pricing General Discussion
weavil replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The Liebherr bucket and the new tracks may never see light again or if they do it will be at least 3-4 years later. The black LA's will be used more I think. The other color 5x7 frames were for that specific line, were the yellow can still be used even if it is hidden inside the model. -
Technic Pricing General Discussion
weavil replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What I think most people miss about the price is that there is a new mold piece and that CAT (most likely) has a higher license cost the others. Electronics do play a part in cost, however it can be ignored when comparing two or more sets with electronics. When evaluating the cost of a set, always look at these: How much electronics. How many "large" items. (panels, tires, buckets, etc) How many new molded parts and size. Is it a licensed set. Along with large parts, does it have an excessive amount of cross hole parts. Like 5x7 or 7x11 frames. The rest of the parts can be made easier and quick either cause of their size (pins, bushings, 1x3 whatever's) or simple mold shapes (lift arms, axles). -

I guess they can choose own color, that would make it easier for people to join. This one would have to enforce progress pics in the posts. -
Generic Contest Discussion
weavil replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I had a thought yesterday for a contest. The mods come up with an exact number of parts. Pins, arms, gears, panels, and so forth. Everyone would have to use the same parts for their builds. Like how @grohl has made so many models from 42117, but with a more general part list of like 150~250. -
Generic Contest Discussion

I didn't have the money for those two sets and I wasn't active in Lego during TC10 but just about everyone has some type of pneumatic stuff. TC6 was sponsored by Sbrick I believe. The mention of Mindstorms for a contest has ruffled feathers many times before, because it was implied that "robotic" function would follow. Sbrick = money needed for adoption! Same as the other bluetooth box options. If did not mean sensors in connection to Mindstorm, then it would just a motorized contest build. This topic has been a shouting match at times over electronic usage in contests. Even if I had the money for 42109 and 42114, I would need to buy more motors or be limited to two functions in every build with it. -
Generic Contest Discussion

I had problems getting them off my camera so I had like 3-4 posted before I was finished. I think this time it was more to hide their techniques because there was some that sane as another entry. This way one doesn't claim the other "stole" their build. "Problems" will continue, but most of the time it's with the building requirements for the contest. They have always stated "Must create a WIP topic", so we just need to enforce the "Progress" part. It would be a pain for some people if they enforce "progress" in the WIP post as some, like you, want to enter but can only set aside a week or so to build. However, people could hard took pictures to add to there post as they took apart their build as they could still edit the WIP post while voting was going on. So was this one a medium? Are you going to buy me Control+ parts for the contest? As haven't had the money for new sets or the parts to make the change from PF. It also seems like a lot of people on here haven't made the change over either. One main problem that sticks out to me is there is "Pro Builders" and "Deep Wallet" builders that enter the contests. They have or can get the parts anytime in any amount when they need them. Other people like me try to make builds with lesser, cheaper, or more common parts and it can put us at a disadvantage sometimes. -

[TC20] 8448 ReStreet Sensation
weavil replied to weavil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As stated before, I had problems retrieving the rest of the W.I.P. pictures. I was able to get them uploaded and here they are. -
I like the WIP threads because I like to see the progress. How they made this or that work. Asking for help. And so on. I don't mind just the finished MOC. However it bothers me because it's like they are hiding trade secrets. I could understand if they sell instructions for that MOC. But if don't sell the instructions, then why hide the inside of the model?

[TC20] 8448 ReStreet Sensation

I had the big curved panels below the doors, but needed them for the front. The 13/14 panels, I think the pins had weak clutching and it shifted. I noticed that the height should have been one stud lower. I thought I had the right parts to make arches, but I didn't. -
I seen someone do a review on those a few weeks back. I think it's only available in a set for now. It also would be nice if it had pinhole or pin for mounting.
